Google phone’s Android SDK Released

The SDK (Software Development Kit) for Google’s mobile phone, Android was released on 12th November 2007.

For the uninitiated, here’s a peek into what the Android is all about.

The Android is the first open, free to use, completely-packed-with-goodies mobile platform. It includes an operating system, middle ware and key applications written using Java programming. So you get a phone with all features such as GPS, camera, email, Instant Messaging, calendar, games etc as well as Google services like XMPP and Google Maps. Google Open Handset Alliance and Android is official

Google has just announced the Open Handset Alliance. It has partnered with over 30 Companies worldwide for the new platform called Android including Motorola, Qualcomm, HTC and T-Mobile. So the gPhone story has just started.

We had covered about Android 2 days back.This is actually interesting news for mobile developers and mobile users.

Mobile Developers can get to download the SDK soon at the Open Alliance Developer page

Phones running the Android platform are expected to hit the market in the second half of 2008.

This move is seen as a sign of Google’s intentions to enter the Booming mobile market world wide.

You must have used / seen Google mobile maps, Gmail and Mobile docs . The new phones will be linux powered probably and will run all the latest Google Mobile Apps. 

BharatMatrimony ties up with Nokia for Catalogs platform

Leading Indian matrimony site BharatMatrimony.com has tied up with Nokia to offer its match making services of the Nokia Catalogs Platform.

The move will enable the Matrimony portal to cater to Nokia phone users in India.

The partnership is aimed at bringing Match Making to the mobile platform.

Opera Link enables you to sync bookmarks across phone and pc

Opera has launched a new offering called Opera Link which lets you bookmark web sites using its PC version  and mobile version of browsers.

It lets you synchronize the bookmarks across the devices. You can bookmark a site in your PC and access the same from your mobile

Opera Link is supported in Opera 9.5 beta and the Opera Mini 4 beta

Google Docs now mobile read documents on your phone

Techquack reported earlier today that Google Docs is now mobile.

This new interface contains one Search Box, Recent Documents, your folders and your documents. Instead of Displaying the extensions, there is an icon for spreadsheet, doc, ppt that is getting displayed.

Adobe Launches Flash Lite 3 supports Video

We might be able to see Streaming Flash Video soon on mobile phones using Flash Lite. Adobe announced the Flash Lite 3 today with FLV Support.

Flash Lite is the mobile version of the desktop Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash player

Nokia to acquire NAVTEQ

After we reported the Nokia is in talks to acquire NAVTEQ, Nokia issued a Press Release to confirm the deal.

  • Nokia’s Location Based Services offerings to expand
  • Expect to see lots of GPS supported handsets from Nokia
  • NAVTEQ’s Map data business will still remain functional, but under Nokia

Nokia will pay a price of approximately $8.1 billion for the take over.

Nokia in talks to acquire Navteq

Nokia is in serious talks to acquire Navteq who is a leading navigation software maker.

NavteqInterestingly Navteq is also a data provider for Google Maps.

The company has a $7.61 billion market capitalization – their main business is software for in-vehicle navigation systems.

If Nokia bags Navteq , it will be a shot in the arm for Nokia’s GPS Device offerings and the mobile-services arena.

Nokia and Navteq already have a business relationship, where Navteq provides information for Nokia’s mobile phones.

Social Networking is such a big business these days. And every other brands is wanting to get a share of it.

Nokia is launching mosh.nokia.com which is the first time a mobile handset maker is coming up with a social networking website.

The site is in a private beta and you need to password to get to the registration form. We managed to get the code and grab a username.

You can upload Images,Videos,Documents and all kinds of stuff . You can share all your uploads with others as well.

The Mobile version of the site is at http://www.mosh.nokia.mobi and its pretty clean and optimized for mobile browsing.

Paypal brings Mobile Checkout

Can’t login to Paypal on your mobile ? Worrying about the loads of time their homepage takes to load on your mobile . There’s some relief.

Paypal has launched a new mobile checkout service that enables users to pay for services over paypal using a website interface tailor made for small screens. There’s verification by means of a Mobile PIN.

Nokia’s new N-gage gaming platform

You might have seen the Nokia N-gage and the Ngage-QD . It was not a big hit but it defintely made the mobile gaming experience a enjoyable one.Nokia is currently working on a new N-Gage gaming platform. Details are expected to be announced any time. Unlike the previous version the new n-gage is expected to be compatible with at least all N-Series phones.

The Graphics looks really good.Will the 3D accelerator in the N95 be powerful enough for 3D Gaming ?

Mozilla Firefox for mobile phones soon

Looks like Opera software and other mobile broswer vendors might face some stiff competition with the entry of Mozilla Firefox into the mobile arena. APC carries a news story which says

Mozilla Foundation CEO Mitchell Baker has been thinking about it too, and looking at how Firefox can be ported to mobile platforms. “

A Mini Mozilla based variant is already available for Windows Mobile devices here MiniMo .

Opera Mini works great but it will always be good to see some innovation as Mobile Browsing is a tedious job.

Microsoft announces Windows Mobile 6.0

The new version of Windows Mobile – 6.0 is coming and devices using the new operating system are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2007.
