It seems apt that Nokia has chosen to announced a new colour Lumia 800 this week. Europe has been blankated by snow - so what better way than to celebrate than making official the white version. White is a popular colour for a phone, and while the previous versions has always looked so darn beautiful on the Lumia 800's Polycarbonate unibody shell, it just isn't quite as sexy as it is in white.
Unlike its technicolour cousins, the white Lumia 800 features a glossy finish rather than matte. This means that it attracts fingerprints, and doesn't hide scratches nearly as well as matte. Why no matte? Well Nokia's explanation is that a glossy finish is easier to clean than a matte one - highly critical with a product of this colour. Regardless the glossy finish really compliments the snow white colour really well. While it does attract fingerprints, it isn't as apparent as I assumed it would be.
In any case all four of the Lumia 800 features the exact same specifications, down to the 16GB storage - meaning, unlike the N9, there is no 64GB version. Still you can't argue that the white version does looks rather sleek, and would no ...

Yesterday Nokia all but confirmed the white Lumia 800, which we will go hands-on soon. But they also showed off another Windows Phone device. Whether accidental or intentional, the Lumia 900 sans AT&T logo is featured, in plain sight, on their Facebook page. And in white.
While Nokia has not confirmed the international variant of the Lumia 900, it is expected that the specifications will remain the same as the AT&T version, minus the LTE radio. As MWC is in the next couple of weeks, speculation is rife that Nokia will announce the GSM version of the Lumia 900, and this leak will only further confirm that.

The smartphone in the press image above is the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus. The image was uploaded onto Twitter by Eldar Murtazin.
The device is said to feature a faster 1.5GHz Dual Core Processor. Not much other information is known about the device but it does look very identical to the Galaxy S II which gives us reason to believe that it could be the Galaxy S II Plus.
However for the very same reason, we also think that it could very well be a fake image. The screen seems to look a little odd as well. The home button is now missing and three new Android Ice Cream Sandwich style buttons have been added.
So if the photo is indeed real, this could suggest that Samsung is not yet ready to do away with keys completely. The phone also seems to have a slimmer waistline. The top looks tapered and the bottom bump is not very evident. Hence it might have gotten smaller or the bump has been removed altogether. But due to the angle of the image, its very tough to decide.
With Samsung officially confirming that the Galaxy S III will not make an appearance at MWC (Mobile World ...

Samsung has just signed a joint venture with Corning to to manufacture a new range of speciality glass substrates for its OLED equipped devices.
If the name Corning sounds familiar to you, its probably because you've heard of Gorilla glass. Gorilla glass is one of the strongest materials used for displays in smartphones.
The venture will be based in Korea and will combine Samsung's OLED expertise with Corning's Lotus Glass technology.
This would enable Samsung to widen the range of smartphones that will use their technology. It will also help it to compete with LG and other makers who provide displays to brands such as Apple.

Apple had just recently announced that it had managed to sell 37.04 million iPhones, 15.43 million iPads and 15.4 million iPods in Q1 2012. Now it has revealed plans to reward Apple employees following the record breaking quarter results.
During a session at Town Hall with employees, Apple CEO Tim Cook has just announced some new employee benefits. Employees of the company will be able to purchase Apple products at a discounted rate. Macs will receive a 500$ discount and iPads will receive a 250$ discount.
The privileges are expected to kick off by June 2012. However in order to enjoy the benefits, the employee must have worked at Apple for a minimum period of 90 days and the offer can be used only every three years so the employees might have to choose wisely. Also, the discount on Macs does not apply to the Mac Mini.

Tae-Jin Kang of Samsung has just revealed at CES about Samsung's plans to merge their own Bada OS into the Tizen project.
The decision is mainly because of the similarities between the two OSes. Both are Linux based and the OS resulting out of the merger would also be a Linux based one.
Tizen could be considered as the successor to MeeGo. Although MeeGo never really took off since Nokia decided to call it quits and adopt Windows 7 after launching just one MeeGo phone, the Nokia N9.
Samsung has also promised backward compatibility with Bada applications and support for applications written using the Bada SDK. According to the source, we will see at least one or two Tizen based smartphones in 2012. They will however mostly be mid-end devices since the high-end segment will be reserved for Android and Windows platforms.

In recent years, manufactureres have managed to create phones that can even rival some of the dedicated computers in terms of performance. But the battery life is one aspect that hasnt improved over time.
Although the battery capacities have increased, the actual battery life remains the same if not lesser than previous generation mobile phones. Samsung has now acknowledged the problem relating battery life especially in their devices.
According to Kevin Packingham, VP at Samsung product innovation, Samsung is trying to build phones whose battery lasts a full day under moderately heavy use. They know that battery life hasn't been the best aspect of their smartphones but they've made progress.
They would improve battery life not just by optimising the battery usage but also using larger capacity batteries. But he also stated that power users might always end up facing the problem and that they would have to resort to carrying extra battery or using battery packs at least until solar power becomes popular.
He described 2011 as a transitional year due to the implementation of new technologies and promised that 2012 will deliver better quality smartphones.

If you thought that the Nokia N9/Lumia 800 designs looked slick, then you have to take a look at the Nokia 1 tablet concept by yronimus. The concept is certainly one of the best looking tablets that we've seen if not the best.
The concept runs on Windows 8 and according to rumours, Nokia is planning on releasing a Windows 8 tablet in 2012. It is based on the Nokia Lumia 800 design but is much slimmer and retains the monoblock design.
The specifications of the device are:
	187.6 x 293 x 8.5mm , 580 grams
	Windows 8 OS ARM Edition
11.6" AMOLED Display with 1280x800 Pixels Resolution
	32GB or 64GB Internal Memory, 2GB RAM
5 Megapixel Camera with Full 1080p HD Video Recording at 30 FPS, 2 Megapixel Front Facing Camera
	7500 mAH Battery
We hope that Nokia at least takes a few design cues from this concept and if the end product looks anything like this, then we're going to have a best design winner for sure.

The first two Galaxy flagships - the Galaxy S and the Galaxy S II have had great success and Samsung are doing their best to make sure the next generation Galaxy flagship will grab everyone's attention as well.
The original Galaxy S was a great device but it wasn't perfect. The Galaxy S II on the other hand is still one of the best phones on the market and most phones that are put against it end up performing worse in comparison.
With the Galaxy S III, they're looking to provide customers with the best of technology and rumors indicate that Samsung might put a quad core processor in the device. We've heard several rumors in the past. Some indicate that the phone will feature a 1.8GHz Dual Core processor while others suggest a Quad Core processor (Clock Speed 1.2 - 1.5GHz ?). We think that there's more chance of it being the latter. Samsung have been making the impossible in the past few years and next year might be no exception. But if they're unable to perfect it, they might play it safe and fit a dual core processor with faster clock speed.
As for the naming, there's a possibility that it ...

JXD, a Chinese manufacturer has just released a new tablet called the S7100. The tablet is essentially a gaming device with D-Pad and a set of other gaming controls.
The design seems very similar to the Wii-U and their official site is awfully similar to Apple's!
The tablet has a 7" capacitive touchscreen with 800x480 pixels resolution. It's other specifications are:
	Android 2.2 Froyo
	ARM A9 Cortex CPU

We told you about the Adobe Flash Player 11 update which brings support for Android Ice Cream Sandwich. But it seems that Flash is not the only thing missing from Android ICS.
According to a tweet by the official Swype twitter account, they say that Swype will not be available on Ice Cream Sandwich for now. The lack of support is caused by problems related to the way ICS reports screen resolution.
And since resolution is an important factor for a keyboard, it explains why the people at Swype are facing issues. They said that they're working to make Swype work on ICS as well but no estimated date of completion has been given and till then ICS users will have to do without Swype.

The Samsung Galaxy Note has arrived and with it comes the now obligatory unboxing video. But first, a quick recap on what the Galaxy Note is. The Galaxy Note is a super sized phone, or a small tablet - depending on your point of view. Personally I view it more as a phone as, while it is massive, it is a fully functioning phone, and most users will likely use this as their main phone rather than carrying a separate smartphone (and why would you want to?). Add the S-Pen stylus and the 5.3" Super AMOLED HD (800 x 1280) display with Wacom digitiser to the mix and what you get is a device that replaces not only your smartphone, but also your Moleskine notebook.
In any case regardless on whether you call it a small tablet or big phone, the Galaxy Note is fast. It is basically a super charged version of the popular Samsung Galaxy S II right down to the plastic shell. It runs on the same excellent Exynos S-o-C but with the dual core ARM-Cortex A9 CPUs clocked at a higher 1.4GHz speed. It outclasses their flagship tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in terms of raw ...

Yes, you read the title right. The phone is indeed called Sony XPERIA LT22 ( codenamed Nyphon). The phone in the leaked picture above might be the first re-branded XPERIA phone.
News about a complete takeover of Sony over from Ericsson had been rumored several times over the years. But in October this year, Sony purchased 50% of the share in Sony Ericsson which is basically the share that was owned by Ericsson.
As a result the company would encounter an image and branding makeover. The company would now be known as Sony rather than Sony Ericsson. The re-branding was rumored to be done by June 2012 but we can be sure that it'll take place before 2012 end.
The Sony XPERIA Nyphon is one of the first XPERIA handsets since the re-branding. The Nyphon seems to retain most of the styling aspects from its predecessors. It looks like a mixture of both the XPERIA X10 and the Vivaz models.
The specifications of the device are:
	1GHz Dual-Core U8500 Processor from ST-Ericsson
	8 Megapixel Exmor R Camera
1GB RAM, 16GB Built in Memory
Android 2.3 Gingerbread (Upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 Later on)

Microsoft has just made a correction to a statement they previously made. It seems that Windows Phone 7.5 does indeed lack support for NFC.
Last week, Will Coleman (Developer Evangelist and Product Manager at Microsoft UK) stated that Windows 7.5 does support NFC and that OEM manufacturers can enable it if required.
The statement has now been corrected by a Microsoft spokesperson who stated that Windows Phone 7.5 does not support NFC but Microsoft expects NFC enabled Windows devices to ship within the next year.
Microsoft currently holds around 14 NFC related patents and they have promised to bring support for NFC and more hardware choices to Windows Phone in 2012.

The Motorola DEFY+ is an evolution of the original Motorola DEFY, which won our heart last year as the only complete smartphone that offers some form of physical protection against water, dust and the occasional drop. In a form that doesn't make it differ much from a typical smartphone. Read on to find out if this phone has what it takes to survive in the hands of a nefarious phones reviewer.
Exterior wise, the DEFY+ looks exactly like the original DEFY. In fact not much has changed on the outside, if at all. The look is now almost recognizable Motorola. It is small, light and looks nothing like any rugged phones out there. Not only does it actually look cute, it is also stylish. You would not be embarrass to use this IP67 certified phone in a fancy bar for example as you would, say, a JCB Tradesman.
In addition to the phone itself, included inside the DEFY+'s compact box are a large 1700mAh battery, microUSB cable, 2GB microSDHC card, headphones and USB wall charger. The headset looks rather ordinary and if you are serious about listening to music on the DEFY+, you would be best to invest in a better quality ...

The Motorola Defy+ is an updated version of the Motorola Defy, Motorola's unique take on making rugged phones accessible to all. Externally the Defy+ looks identical to the Defy. In fact side by side it is impossible to tell the two apart. Which is a good thing as we like the same small cute design.
Like the original Defy, Motorola is marketing the Defy+ as a water resistant and dust resistant device that also has a scratch resistant display. The Defy+ is an IP67 certified device, meaning it is capable of being submerged in water up to 1m deep for 30 minutes.

Internally there isn't much to tell the Defy+ and Defy apart. The processor has been slightly upgraded from a 800MHz OMAP 3610 to a 1GHz OMAP 3620, but the 512MB of RAM has been left untouched. It also now runs on Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread while the original Defy was initially shipped with Eclair (it now runs on Froyo).
Incredibly, despite the same dimensions, Motorola has managed to bump the battery capacity to 1700mAh, up from the already reasonable 1540mAh that was bundled with the Defy.

Specs wise there is nothing exciting about the Defy+. Having said that, the Defy+ is a ...

Samsung Italy has reportedly mentioned which of their devices will be getting an upgrade to the latest version of Google's Android OS - Ice Cream Sandwich.
The models confirmed to receive an update are:
	Galaxy S II
	Galaxy Note
	Galaxy Tab 10.1
	Galaxy Tab 8.9
	Galaxy Tab 7.7
	Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
They also mentioned that we shouldn't expect an upgrade anytime soon. The earliest possible date for the upgrade would be Q2 2012. However we haven't received confirmation as to whether these dates are only for the Italian region or for all the regions.

In a new report published by Strategy Analytics, Samsung have snatched the top spot in the global smartphone market, shipping 27.8 million smartphones in the last quarter.
That's nearly 20 million more than they shipped just one year ago, with the company showing dramatic growth at the expense of its two biggest competitors, Apple and Nokia. The figure is good for a 23.8% share in the global market for the past quarter, compared with 14.6% for Apple and 14.4% for Nokia.
Apple may yet retake the top spot however, as these figures don't include the launch weekend of the iPhone 4S, which saw sales of over 4 million units in just three days. The new phone has revitalised Apple, even in the face of growing Android competition.
Nokia will also looking to fight back in the last quarter of the year, with its stable of Windows phones to soon be available. The Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, Nokia's first Windows phones, have been critically well received and should sell well. The company is also expected to boost its fortunes with the launch of its feature phone line Asha.
Samsung won't be resting on its laurels either, though. The company is expected to keep up the ...

We hope you have seen Michael's (@MichaelxHell) - Swipetastic review of the Nokia N9. Now, we let the Nokia N9 do the talking through this photo gallery of the device.
The Nokia N9 is definitely the most sexy and beautiful devices out there and one of the best ever.. I would like to thank my team for the support without which this gallery would not have been possible.
You can view larger versions of the picture by clicking on them. Feel free to leave your comments and suggestions :D
Simply Elegant
I've always wanted to do a light trail picture of a phone and I felt that the Nokia N9 would be the perfect subject since the light trails could be interpreted as "Swipes".
Nokia N9 beside its packaging which I quite liked. Has everything you need including a silicon case.
The display is just a treat. The combination of curved glass and AMOLED work really well. It feels tougher than most screens at the same time providing a very smooth touch.
You can see a sort of ghost image which I think is the result of the curved glass. This is not an issue when using the device since it becomes invisible. Unless you plan on ...

Nokia has organised shows in Singapore to highlight the release of the Nokia N9. It's called N9 Ninjas and it is basically a competition in which you could win a Nokia N9.
The event runs from Saturday, October 15th to Sunday, October 23rd 2011. There are 4 basic steps you require to follow in order to win a Nokia N9.
Step 1: Collect an exclusive Shuriken card from one of the N9 Ninjas.
Step 2: Swap your Shuriken card for a limited edition Shuriken magnet at one of the redemption locations.

Most people were disappointed when Apple didn't announce the iPhone 5 or the much rumored iPhone Mini. Now its the iPad's turn to be the rumor generating device.
Back in July, we heard rumors of Apple working on a HD version of the iPad2 but it was later revealed that it has been cancelled.
According to Brian White, an analyst at Ticonderoga Securities, Apple is working on a mini version of the iPad which will cost around 250-300 US$. Mini doesn't necessarily mean that its smaller but instead have lower pricing.
It would help Apple target competitors like the Amazon Kindle Fire. Along with the cheaper "Mini iPad", Apple would also announce the iPad 3 which will be an upgrade to the iPad 2 and will be priced similarly.
He says that the "Mini iPad" would be launched in Q1 2012 and the iPad 3 in Q2 2012.

The Google Nexus Prime, the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich device that will be manufactured by Samsung has been spotted on a Singaporean online store.
The site shows three pictures of the phone. One being the picture from the teaser for the event that Samsung had released a while ago. The second picture being the one that was leaked a few days ago and believed to be the Google Nexus Prime.
The third picture is of the back but seems to be a picture of the back of the Nexus S. We're not sure how legit it is since there's no information given about the handset.
The device was supposed to be announced at an event on 11th October but Google and Samsung called off the event to pay respect to Steve Jobs. The phone is now expected to be released on 19th October.

Apple's iOS 5 mobile operating system will be released in the next few hours. This latest update is compatible with most recent iterations of the Apple mobile line, including iPhones after the 3GS, iPads and the iPod Touch.
The update includes a new notification system reminiscent of Android, location-based reminders, BBM-alike iMessage and Twitter integration. There are over 200 other tweaks and updates to the OS as well, including upgrades to core apps such as Safari and Mail. Let's have a look at the bigger changes in more detail.
Notification Center
The new Notification Center is definitely the most obvious change in iOS 5. The Apple OS now uses an Android-style notification system, where new notifications appear near the top of the display, instead of on a mid-screen box that must be closed. If you'd like to immediately open a notification, then you can do so by swiping over it, or if you don't just wait a few seconds for it to be stored away.
You can access the notification center itself by swiping downwards from the status bar, just like on Android. New notifications are listed from the window that appears and grouped by app. You can then clear or open each notification ...

We're just a few hours away from the most anticipated phone event of the year and we have received some breaking news. Sources say that there might just be one iPhone tonight.
It seems that only the Apple iPhone 4S will be announced tonight and that the iPhone 5 will not make an appearance.
The iPhone 4S is basically an iPhone 4 with more powerful hardware while retaining the same design. The iPhone 5 was rumoured to be the next generation iPhone with a brand new design and aluminum body.
The several case leaks also supported the theory that the iPhone 5 will be announced tonight. But the source seems to be very certain that it will not be announced.
All we can do now is just wait and hope that it will be announced.

Apple has rejected the settlement offer from Samsung. The offer would have allowed Samsung to sell their Galaxy Tab 10.1.
It would have also enabled a speedy court decision. Apple rejected the offer and claimed that Samsung has infringed numerous patents.
Apple attorney Steven Burley said "It is one we don't accept and there is no surprise. The main reason we are here is to prevent the launch and maintain the status quo."
Neither Samsung nor Apple are in a hurry to conclude the battle. Each will take their own time in preparing to bring down the other.

For quite a while it had been rumored that Sony Ericsson is getting ready to use the Windows Phone platform for its mobile phones.
However, in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg put rest to the rumors by stating that Windows Phone isn't as good as the Android platform which they're already using.
Bert Nordberg - "At this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn’t as good as the one that we currently use. Therefore we have remained with Android, but I am quite curious about Windows Phone."
In October 2010, Nordberg had said that Sony Ericsson would look to use Windows Phone for their devices in 2011 and the appearance of a few Sony Ericsson Windows Phone prototypes only ignited the rumors.
He said that 70% of Sony Ericsson sales are from smartphones and their goal is to become solely a smartphone company by mid-2012. He mentioned that they should have taken Apple more seriously and that they no longer are competing with Nokia since theyre mainly concentrating with the smartphone market.

The big day is finally here. Apple is all set to announce the next generation iPhones today. But we've still got some iPhone 4S news for you before the announcement courtesy of Vodafone Germany. It seems that the cheaper iPhone 4S that is said to be launched with the iPhone 5 will have a 64GB variant. This is the first time an iPhone has stretched beyond the 32GB capacity.
This would lead us to believe that the iPhone 5 will also have a 64GB variant. The iPhone 4S will also be available in 16GB and 32GB versions.
The source also mentions that the iPhone 4S will use the same bumpers that the iPhone 4 uses. So you could say that the design hasn't had any major changes.
Both Black and White variants seem to be available. The site makes no mention of the iPhone 5 which does not necessarily mean that it does not exist but merely that it has a different design.
Perhaps the iPhone 5 will have a unibody construction and will have a silver paint job like the current generation Macbooks.

We had earlier reported that Apple is planning to launch an HD version of the iPad 2 later in 2011. But now it seems that the model has been cancelled.
Peter Miserk of Jefferies and Co said that the cancellation of the iPad 2 HD has resulted in the need for 1 Million units to become retooled.
The iPad 2 Q4 2011 manufacturing has also been cut down from 13.6 Million units to 12 Million units.
Misek reported that he expects to see a new iPad 3 earlier next year probably in January 2012 and that the reason for the decrease in manufacturing is due to inventory caution taken considering the potential demand slowdown.
