UK networks pledge £5 billion to fix coverage issues

The UK Government have announced a major landmark deal with the four major mobile networks to improve mobile coverage in the UK. Under the terms of the deal, the four networks – Vodafone, Three, O2 and EE – have guaranteed to spend £5 billion together to offer guaranteed mobile coverage to 90% of premises across the UK by 2017. BlackBerry Classic headed to Vodafone, O2 and EE in the UK

The new BlackBerry Classic smartphone will be available in the UK next month as networks Vodafone, O2 and EE have confirmed they will range the handset. All three networks will offer the BlackBerry Classic to business customers but rival network Three, who focuses on consumer connections only, will not be stocking the Classic.

Canada loans Vodafone $850 million to boost BlackBerry sales

Canada is backing the continued growth and existence of BlackBerry with a large 5-year $850 million loan to British communications giant Vodafone Group. Under the terms of the agreement, Vodafone will use $750 million to purchase equipment and services produced by BlackBerry and the other $100 million with smaller Canadian companies. Vodafone could seek protection over BT’s EE buyout

Vodafone is set to ask the UK watchdog and regulators to ensure BT doesn’t discriminate against its rivals once the latter acquires UK mobile leader EE. As revealed this week, BT is in talks over a possible £12.5 billion takeover of telecoms giant EE and Vodafone, who will be its closest rival following the acquisition, will require assistance to ensure that BT continues to play fair. Vodafone Ireland has followed in the footsteps of its UK counterpart by introducing a new 4G Roaming offer that allows it customers to use their handset with superfast data whilst roaming in 33 countries around the world. For a single daily charge, consumers can use their inclusive Ireland allowances whilst roaming overseas with the daily cost varying depending on the country visited.

Vodafone UK have today announced that their 4G Roaming network is now available in 17 additional countries around the world. The new countries brings the total included in the superfast roaming network up to 40 countries and makes Vodafone the largest 4G Roaming network in Europe. O2 CEO: Three takeover is unlikely

O2’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronan Dunne, has claimed that reports of a takeover of the operator by rival Three UK is unlikely. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Three could join both BT and Vodafone in eyeing up either EE or O2 for an acquisition but O2’s CEO says that a Three takeover is the least likely of all scenarios. Vodafone Ireland launches 4G+ (LTE Advanced)

Vodafone Ireland has begun rolling out its next-generation 4G+ LTE-Advanced network in Waterford City with further plans to roll out the service in the cities of Cork, Dublin and Limerick by the end of December. Vodafone could be set to increase the convergence of communications providers in the EU with a blockbuster takeover of Virgin Media owner Liberty Global in a deal worth a reported £80 billion. Following BT’s pursuit of O2 and EE in the UK, Vodafone have been eyeing a major ISP in response and the acquisition of/merger with Liberty Global would represent a real challenge to BT’s supposed dominance (once their deal completes). TalkTalk drops Vodafone for O2 4G

TalkTalk has announced that it is dropping its partnership with Vodafone in favour of a similar deal with O2’s parent company Telefonica. In an announcement, TalkTalk said that the deal will allow it to access O2’s 2G, 3G and 4G network and the change represents a blow for Vodafone as the telecoms operator war rises another few degrees. Vodafone to launch UK broadband and TV services next Spring

EE may have just launched their own fixed broadband and TV service in the UK but chief rival Vodafone is close behind. Whilst talking about the Group’s fixed service income, Vodafone Group CEO Vittorio Colao noted that the company was set to launch its own residential broadband and TV service in the UK in Spring 2015.

Vodafone UK bundles NOW TV with 4G contracts

Vodafone UK have added Sky’s NOW TV service to the list of content that Vodafone 4G customers can opt for as part of their contract. NOW TV will join Spotify, Sky Sports Mobile TV and Netflix as options available to customers in the UK.
