Airtel opens 100 own retail stores across India in 14 months

Bharti Airtel has announced that it has crossed the milestone of 100 Company-Owned-Company-Operated (COCO) Airtel retail outlets across India. Airtel launched its first Airtel stores at South Extension (New Delhi) in February, 2013, that has extended to 35 cities and towns across 14 states. It took just 14 months reach the milestone. Nokia has announced a new data offers for Airtel pre-paid customers buying Nokia X. This offer lets Nokia X users enjoy 500MB of free 3G data per month for 3 months. LG partners with Airtel and Qualcomm to launch LTE experience zone in Bangalore

LG Electronics has partnered with Airtel and Qualcomm to set up LTE experience zone in Bangalore for customers to experience 4G LTE. Airtel introduced 4G on mobile first on iPhone 5c and 5s for customers in Bangalore last month. LG launched the 4G LTE variant of the L2 G2 in India earlier this month starting at Rs. 46,000. Airtel reaches 200 million mobile customers in India

Airtel has announced that it has crossed  200 million mobile subscriber mark in India. It is the largest mobile operator in India and fourth largest mobile operator in the world in terms of subscribers. It has 1.5 million outlets and serves 86.7% of the country’s population. It crossed 60 million mobile customer mark in 2008 and reached 100 mobile subscriber base in India in 2009. It took just 5 years for Airtel to add 100 million customers.

Airtel acquires Loop Mobile to become Mumbai’s largest carrier


After yesterday’s report, Airtel has just confirmed that they would acquire Loop Mobile, to become the largest mobile network in Mumbai, by subscribers. It already has 4 million customers in the circle and would add the existing 3 million subscribers from Loop Mobile along with the 2G cell sites in the circle. It would offer 3G, 4G, airtel money, VAS and domestic/international roaming facilities for the Loop Mobile customers. Airtel reportedly plans to acquire Loop Mobile for Rs. 700 crore

Bharti Airtel is all set to acquire Loop Mobile, according to a recent report from The Economic Times. Airtel would acquire Loop Mobile in a Rs. 700-crore deal, which is expected to be announced later this week, the report adds. Loop Mobile was previously called BPL Mobile when it started its operations in 1995 BPL Mobile and was renamed as Loop Mobile in 2009. Airtel launches 4G on mobile, available for Apple iPhone 5s and 5c users in Bengaluru at 3G rates

Bharti Airtel has launched 4G on mobile starting from Bengaluru. Airtel announced their plans to roll out 4G LTE service on smartphones for customers in the city back in December. It also rolled out carrier settings update on the iPhone 5s and 5c that enables the 2300 MHz LTE (Band 40) on the smartphones. Few weeks back it conducted a soft launch, today it launched the service officially. Airtel Mobitude 2013 survey shows 124% jump in data users, 3G devices contributed to 87% of data traffic

Bharti Airtel has released the results of Airtel Mobitude 2013, the 5th edition of its Indian annual survey that reveals that mobile TV, Bollywood, Hello Tunes, Re 1 entertainment store and gaming ruled customer preferences. Mobile TV witnessed 400% plus jump in viewership over last year. Airtel Re 1 entertainments store paved way for data usage growth . The number of data users jump 124% from last year and data consumption jumped 220%. About 87% of data traffic was contributed by 3G-enabled devices. Smartphones with 5.5″ plus screen jumped 123% in last two quarters and Google remains in top as most visited site, followed by YouTube and Facebook.

Airtel now offers free Facebook access for prepaid customers in 9 Indian languages

Earlier this year Airtel launched “Free Facebook on Airtel” offer for their pre-paid customers that offered Free Facebook access for Airtel customers for 1 month without any extra packs. The offer is back again, now Airtel allow pre-paid customers access Facebook both on mobile web (m.facebook.com) and through Facebook apps in 9 regional Indian languages. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Infocomm would share their telecom infrastructure to cut the cost on their networks, according to a report from PTI. This includes optic fiber network – inter and intra city, submarine cable networks, towers and broadband services. This might also be extended to roaming on 2G, 3G and 4G, and any other mutually benefiting areas relating to telecommunication in near future. Airtel to launch 4G LTE on Smartphones in Bangalore this December

Airtel launched 4G LTE services in Pune last October, and rolled out the 4G TD-LTE  service in Kolkata,  Bengaluru and Punjab, but it doesn’t support voice or SMS currently. Earlier this year Airtel had announced that they would offer voice services for 4G customers in Pune. The company recently shared on Twitter that they plan to introduce 4G services for customers with 4G-enabled smartphones. The Apple iPhone 5S and the 5C launched in India on Friday, November 1st, even Airtel launched these devices as the company promised. It also revealed plans with free local minutes, local and national SMS and 3G data. These plans start at Rs. 300, which might vary based on the circle.  The Apple iPhone 5S costs Rs.. 53,500, Rs. 62,500 and Rs. 71,500 for the 16, 32 and 64GB variants. These plans are almost similar to last year’s iPhone 5 plans.
