Bharti Airtel has announced that the company and its subsidiary, Bharti Hexacom have entered into definitive agreements with Aircel and its subsidiaries, Dishnet Wireless to acquire rights to use 20 MHz of 2300 Band 4G spectrum for eight circles – Tamil Nadu (including Chennai), Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa for an aggregate consideration of Rs. 3,500 crore.

Aircel announced a new first-of-its-kind Free Basic Internet offer for its customers last month. Today it launched it in Jammu & Kashmir. All new prepaid customers in J&K can now browse and actively use their favorite applications such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter at Rs. 144, which offers unlimited data with a speed of 64Kbps and 90 days validity. The offer is aimed at fuelling mobile internet adoption in J&K, keeping in view that a considerable population of mobile phone users is still offline, said the company.

Aircel today announced that it will be adding 13000 2G, 3G and 4G sites across India by December 2015. Out of the 13000 sites, 5300 sites are 2G and the remaining 7700 are 3G and 4G sites combined, said the company. After Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Communications (RCOM) and Videocon Telecom, Aircel today announced that it has reduced National Roaming tariff by up to 75% and the call rates by 40%. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reduced ceiling tariffs for national roaming calls and SMS last month. There is no change in the new rates compared to TRAI’s proposed guidelines.
