RIM is holding its BlackBerry DevCon Asia event here in Singapore. The event was shifted from Thailand due to the recent floods in that region. The company held it's previous DevCon in San Francicso where BBX was announced. We expect to hear more about BBX and hope to see a few new un-announced devices. We are also going to try to sit down with some RIM executives and get an idea of the mood within the company. The keynote is about to start in a few minutes and you can follow the updates from the event below

The GSM Association which is the organization behind the annual Mobile World Congress event has just announced that the event will stay in Barcelona till 2018. Mobile World Congress or MWC is our annual mobile pilgrimage where we get to play with the latest mobile phones (add tablets) .Looks like Barcelona also got the most votes in our poll when the GSMA was thinking of moving the event to another city. We would love to see the event move to another city like Milan, Munich and Paris but looks like it's not moving anywhere atleast for then next 6 years. Visca el Barça !

Nokia is still the leading mobile phone company in the world, but they are losing their market shares rapidly. Last year, Stephen Elop joined Nokia as their CEO and he showed Nokia a new light of hope. Earlier this year, Nokia and Microsoft made a deal that Nokia will launch WP7 powered devices and hopefully they will launch it this year. Well, Nokia is now holding an event next week in Athens, Greece, and Nokia want us to save the date. It looks like Nokia is bringing something special on May 17th, and it looks like they are finally planning to announce their first ever WP7 device. At the moment, nothing is set on stone so just take it as a rumor.
Well folks, stay tuned with us because we will keep you updated. Anyway, what do you think Nokia is up to? Tell us!

Intel has revealed that it will be making the most significant technological announcement of the year at a press conference on May 4th.Rumours indicate that the announcements might be for the new 22 nanometer fabrication process and the plans to manufacture chips for Apple.
Apple has used Intel's latest Sandy bridge processor for their computers and also for the recently announced iMacs. They also collaborated with Intel to make the Thunderbolt port. So all these make the possibility of Intel manufacturing chips for iPads and iPhones more likely.
However there are rumours which suggest otherwise because Apple currently uses the technology of ARM in it's chips and ARM is the direct competitor of Intel.
We will have to wait and see what the announcement brings in.

Last week Sony Ericsson launched their latest salvo of Xperia smartphones. The Xperia Play went on sale in the UK on Friday, while the Arc a couple of days before. The Xperia Play is a PlayStation certified Android smartphone that has an integrated gaming pad and access to PlayStation Suite.
As part of the launch Sony Ericsson set up a pop up gaming room at a warehouse in Central London, where the public was able to go hands on with the Xperia Play. The warehouse was transformed into a video gaming scene set in the Far East, decorated with props that are lifted out of gaming scenes such as a helicopter, sport car, rocket launcher and a crashed car. The Sony Ericsson dotted around the venue were ever so helpful when demoing the devices to guests.
In the evening the warehouse was transformed into a party venue. All the props remained, but the area was now cordoned off to the public. VIP guests were then treated with (very) loud music, free drinks, take away noodles and a free gig by a certain Tinchy Stryder.

Earlier this month, I was off to Japan on invitation from NTT Docomo as a part of the Tata Docomo 3G Life activity. Sounds like fun right ? Excitement is an understatement. I have always been amazed by the Japanese mobile market. Almost all of the products are not available outside the land of the rising sun.I have been very interested in NTT Docomo ever since I saw them at MWC and CommunicAsia. Stuff like Separable Phone and Eye controlled earphones are not something you would expect to see everyday. As you all might know NTT DOCOMO is one of the leading mobile operators in Japan with over 55% market share. The company holds 26% stake in Indian telecom operator Tata Docomo which sparked of the per second billing revolution and became the first private operator to launch 3G services.
I would like to share some interesting moments about the journey to NTT Docomo's Headquarters in JapanI had to catch an afternoon flight to Delhi to board a night flight to Tokyo in Japan. Reached Delhi a bit late due to bad weather and barely caught the flight to Tokyo. The Air India flight was pretty smooth and we landed in ...

Close on the back of Apple reporting a best-ever quarter profit of $4.31 Billion on $20.34 Billion Revenue (Q4 2010), the folks in Cupertino unveiled their refreshed take on the ultraportable notebook, with the launch of the new range of 13.3-Inch and 11.6-Inch MacBook Air Models. Replete with flash storage soldered onto the motherboard and near-instant-on capabilities, the new Airs ship with higher resolution displays than their bigger MacBook Pro brethren without forsaking their incredibly slim - 0.11-inches at its thinnest point and 0.68-inches at its thickest – form factor. All at rather enticing price points as well – the 1.4 GHz 11-inch MacBook Air with 2GB of memory and 64GB of flash storage starts at a suggested retail price of Rs 60,900 with a 128GB model for Rs 72,900 (Inc VAT), and the 1.86 GHz 13-inch MacBook Air with 2GB of memory and 128GB of flash storage starts at a suggested retail price of Rs 79,900 with a 256GB model for Rs ...

This Time i met with Damian Dinning (or @phonedaz on Twitter), one of the People who were heavily involved in the AWESOME camera work on the Nokia N8!
What the Guys did, was printing a big photobook, with pictures taken with the Nokia N8. All the Pictures in the Book were absolutely unedited, just as they came out of the Camera. Unfortunately the Video isnt as sharp as i hoped it to be, but you can get the Idea. Nokia has really stepped up the Game here, not only beating all other smartphone camera, but also consumer cams, like pocket point and shoots etc. Being a hobby photographer like i am, the Nokia N8 is exactly what i want. period.
Damian was a very kind Guy, taking his Time to talk me through the whole book, as well as having a drink with us the day before Nokia World. Enjoy!

To whoever did this to us, step forward to receive your deserved punishment! :D
Anyways, i'm trying to slowly bring in all the Content from Nokia World, and i wanna start off with the coolest Thing by a long shot. Have you Guys seen Iron Man 2 and Tony Starks awesome Computer? Well, Nokia is currently working on something just as nice. What they did is plug in the Nokia N8 to a flat screen, with the camera pointing to the picture on the TV. The N8 Camera basically then reacts on everything thats happening on the big Screen with Gestures. For now this is only scroll and click, but possibilities are endless. As you can hear in the Video, this could be used on any TV, with any Type of Nokia Phone.
There is no word yet when we can expect this here in real life, but I WANT!! :) Enjoy this little Video guys
What do you think?

With Nokia World 2010 growing closer and closer, the hype is getting bigger and bigger too. Now we have some more good news about the event.
Today we received our virtual event package from Nokia WOM World and Nokia India. The package contains:
A Virtual Atendee Pass with Access To All Areas
	A Blue T-Shirt
	3D Glasses
The event will start on the 14th of September at 0900 GMT and you can watch the keynote at www.events.nokia.com/nokiaworld. There will also be other activities after the keynote.
We are not sure what the 3D glasses are for. But knowing Nokia, we are sure its something big and very interesting.
We also noticed something about the T-Shirt imprint. There is a phone in the pocket and we think it might be a teaser!
A big thanks to Nokia WOM World and Nokia India!

I will be in London from Sept. 13.-16., making the most of my time over there, visiting Nokia World, WOM World Nokia/1000 Heads and more. I'm also extremely looking forward to meet fellow bloggers again, some people i already know and hopefully some new contacts as well. This is not an all expenses paid trip, which means i'll sort Hotel and Flights on my own, but i'm just happy i don't need to pay the ridiculous 700 Euro for the 2-day ticket.
The Goal is that Nokia Austria teams up with me to bring some exclusive live Coverage, as well as Pictures, Videos and more, in return for the Ticket. Additionally i will cover everything thats going on at Nokia World for FoneArena readers, so whatever is going on, you will read/see it here first.
Nokia World 2010 is shaping up to be the first thing of many to come, in Nokia's plan to get revenge. Nokia knew that they messed up in the past, big time. faulty hardware, buggy software and lots of stupid decisions. they have lost a lot of space to the ...

The death-grip-gate drama surrounding the iPhone 4 and its mysterious signal dropping is coming to a head, with Apple hastily convening a press conference later tonight at its Cupertino campus. A quick recap if you’re just tuning in – after a number of users reported signal and call/data drops when their hands bridged the new iPhone 4 antenna, Apple issued a public statement stating it was a mere ‘formula error’ that led to users seeing more signal bars than they should in certain cases. It took independent body Consumer Reports, which tested three iPhone 4s in its radio frequency isolation room and issued a ‘not recommended’ status due to the significant reception problems (when holding the phone over its lower-left corner), for Apple to pull together an event to tackle this issue head-on.
Now, in typical Apple fashion, an invite to this event, even to the select few who do receive it, is short on detail, except that it will be around the company’s flagship smartphone. This is a first for Apple – as far back as I can remember, and aficionados out there can correct me if I am wrong, Apple has never called for a press conference for anything ...

Intel had recently organized a Developer Event for MeeGo in Chennai and I was almost missed the event as I heard about the event through twitter . Considering my passion for Linux and after being present at the MeeGo announcement during MWC in Barcelona this Feb , I decided to see what's in store for Developers in the new MeeGo platform.
The Keynote about MeeGo was delivered by Santosh Bhat , Senior Application Engineer , Intel. He spoke about the MeeGo platform in general.
Meego is aimed at Netbooks , SmartPhones and TVs
Then there was a talk about Monetizing your applications using the Intel Atom Developer Program.
One of the interesting talks was about the Qt framework by Rajiv of Nokia. He spoke about the Qt framework which is the UI Toolkit for Meego. He spoke about Qt Creator and Qt Quick which are cross platform (Mac , Windows and Linux) development tools for designing User Interfaces for MeeGo applications . The thing about Qt is that you can write applications for multiple platforms in considerably less lines of code. Qt powers the Linux KDE Desktop.
Next was a talk by Praful Joshi from WindRiver who had an interesting presentation with nice numbers about the ...

I just received an invite via DHL for a Nokia Event happening on April 13th that is coming Tuesday. The url on the invite points to the nokia events website which hosts a countdown timer. Nokia is going to announce something during this event for sure. What will it be ?
The Nokia N8 ( VASCO) rumours have been around for quite some time now. Also the C3 and C5 have been approved by the FCC.
The invite has the chat bubble on the rear. So can it be something like a new version of Nokia Messaging ?
As always , I would love to see some new handsets being announced as the C5 was the last handset Nokia announced.

Check out some interesting answers given by Steve Jobs to the questions from the press below.
Q: Will the social gaming network from Apple supplant all the social gaming networks already available? And what will Apple do different?
A: The problem was there are a bunch of different social networks out there. So the goal was to build it into the platform, and everyone can be on the same gaming platform. We expect developers will build this into their games because they’ll have a wider audience.

When it comes to shows like these , brands always love to have the best faces market their products and it does pretty good for their publicity . Here are the Booth Babes of MWC 2010

Seems like the reports we gathered the last week regarding Google Nexus One is coming to reality. As reported by Engadget, Google has officially announced a press gathering for Android on the January 5th. While the page doesn't itself reveal much, we are expecting the launch of Nexus on this day.
The page says a few simple lines:
With the launch of the first Android-powered device just over a year ago, we've seen how a powerful, open platform can spur mobile product innovation. And this is just the beginning of what's possible.
Please join us in Mountain View on January 5, for an Android press gathering.
This seems to be perfectly in time, ahead of the events of Apple and of Nokia. Will keep you updated on the announcement of the day.

According to reports, it is rumored that Apple will be shipping the next generation 5-megapixel iPhone during the second half of 2010. A report at DigiTimes suggests that Omnivision Technologies, the supplier of CMOS image sensors (CIS) for the iPhone, that currently supplies the 3.2-megapixel CIS for iPhone 3GS, has received bulk orders for supplying 45 million CIS for the next generation iPhone, during 2010.
For the past 3 years, Apple has launched a new iPhone every summer, so it is expected that iPhone 4G will be launched during summer 2010.

San Francisco's Moscone Center is the venue where Apple usually holds its annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC). According to AppleInsider, Moscone Center is booked from June 28 to July 2, 2010 and the event has been listed as a "Corporate Event".
Apple had earlier reserved the venue with the same title and every year they launched a new iPhone during WWDC. So, it is expected that the next gen 5-megapixel iPhone would be launched during the WWDC 2010. Let's wait till Apple make an official statement.
