Handset maker Nokia is moving its device assembly to it's factories in Asia in a strategic move to improve time to market for it's products. The 3 factories Komarom, Hungary, Reynosa, Mexico and Salo, Finland will no longer assemble devices but will only offer smartphone product customization aimed at customers in Europe and the Americas.Such a move is not surprising as a major portion of all electronic goods are manufactured in Asia due to lower costs and close proximity to component suppliers.
This move is expected to impact over 4,000 jobs. If you own a Made in Finland or Made in Hungary Nokia phone , hold on to it as you might not get one in the future. I pulled out 3 Nokia phones from my collection and found a Made in Hungary , Made in China and a Made in India device. The recent Dual SIM handsets are all made in India including the Asha phones
If you own a Nokia phone , do post below the country in which it was made. you can find it in the box or below the battery.

It seems apt that Nokia has chosen to announced a new colour Lumia 800 this week. Europe has been blankated by snow - so what better way than to celebrate than making official the white version. White is a popular colour for a phone, and while the previous versions has always looked so darn beautiful on the Lumia 800's Polycarbonate unibody shell, it just isn't quite as sexy as it is in white.
Unlike its technicolour cousins, the white Lumia 800 features a glossy finish rather than matte. This means that it attracts fingerprints, and doesn't hide scratches nearly as well as matte. Why no matte? Well Nokia's explanation is that a glossy finish is easier to clean than a matte one - highly critical with a product of this colour. Regardless the glossy finish really compliments the snow white colour really well. While it does attract fingerprints, it isn't as apparent as I assumed it would be.
In any case all four of the Lumia 800 features the exact same specifications, down to the 16GB storage - meaning, unlike the N9, there is no 64GB version. Still you can't argue that the white version does looks rather sleek, and would no ...

Soon after the announcement of the Nokia Lumia 900 in the USA , rumors started flying that the international variant will be equipped with an updated 12MP camera unit. Recently the rumor was debunked by Damian Dining , the person who heads Nokia's camera division.
While there is no confirmation on the Nokia 910 , it probably does not come with a 12MP camera and instead retains the 8MP sensor from the 900. We should know more soon at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Yesterday Nokia all but confirmed the white Lumia 800, which we will go hands-on soon. But they also showed off another Windows Phone device. Whether accidental or intentional, the Lumia 900 sans AT&T logo is featured, in plain sight, on their Facebook page. And in white.
While Nokia has not confirmed the international variant of the Lumia 900, it is expected that the specifications will remain the same as the AT&T version, minus the LTE radio. As MWC is in the next couple of weeks, speculation is rife that Nokia will announce the GSM version of the Lumia 900, and this leak will only further confirm that.

Nokia has made official a new colour variation of their first Windows Phone 7 device, the Lumia 800. Joining the previously announced black, cyan and magenta Lumia 800 is the white version, due out later this month.
My friend Chris Davies of Slashgear has gone hands-on with the device and describes the finish as more glossy than matte - similar to the white Nokia N9. Specs wise, the white Lumia 800 is the same as its siblings - meaning 1.4GHz Snapdragon SoC, 8MP camera and 3.7" AMOLED CBD display.
What do you think? Would a white Lumia 800 interest you, or would you prefer to wait for the inevitable white Lumia 900?

Windows Phone fansite , WPSauce , reporting live from the Windows Phone Dev Camp in India says that future versions of Windows Phone will support upto 120 languages. Equally interesting is the news that C++ native code support will be coming to Windows Phone in the near future.
The news comes from Microsoft developers and speakers during the Q&A at the event. While still far from confirmed , we find the news believable given Microsoft's goal to infiltrate the volume segment. Microsoft has also been very active in their support for developers who have been clamoring for native code support. Sadly it is still unknown whether these advances will be additions to the Tango release or Windows Phone Apollo scheduled for late this year.

Nokia just published their Q4 2011 results with predictably dropping sales. What is interesting to note is that the Finnish cellphone manufacturer managed to sell over 1 million Lumia devices. Sales are 31% lower than the same quarter last year essentially selling 19.6 million units. These numbers however are 17% up since Q3 2011.
Nokia achieved over 10 billion Euros in sales, 21% lower than the same quarter a year ago but lost almost 1billion Euros in the last quarter. Something worth quoting by Stephen Elop , CEO of Nokia :
“And, while we progressed in the right direction in 2011, we still have a tremendous amount to accomplish in 2012, and thus, it is my assessment that we are in the heart of our transition.
Specifically, changing market conditions are putting increased pressure on Symbian. In certain markets, there has been an acceleration of the anticipated trend towards lower-priced smartphones with specifications that are different from Symbian’s traditional strengths. As a result of the changing market conditions, combined with our increased focus on Lumia, we now believe that we will sell fewer Symbian devices than we previously anticipated.”
[Update] As part of the ongoing conference call , we're hearing that Symbian sales are declining ...

Nokia has announced that they have shipped over 1.5 billion Series 40 (S40) phones. Their first Series 40 phone, Nokia 7110 was developed in 1999 that offered web-based functions, including email. The 1.5 billionth phone was received by a female consumer in the Brazilian city of São Paulo. Their latest S40 phone Nokia Asha 303 with QWERTY keypad, Touch screen display and 1 GHz processor was announced at the Nokia World last year.
There are 675 million active owners of S40 phones in the world, and Nokia is selling about 12 S40 phones every second according to a report from BBC. These affordable S40 devices for the next billion people now come with innovative features including Nokia Maps for Series 40, Nokia Browser and Web Apps, Nokia Money and Nokia Life Tools, Social networking and Instant messenger support.
Nokia bought Smarterphone, an operating system vendor that delivers operating system optimized for feature phones earlier this month. They might enhance their S40 phones' UI with this.
The latest Nokia Asha 300 and Asha 303 should hit the Indian market soon.

The Nokia Lumia 710, announced at last year's Nokia World, is Nokia's second Windows Phone device. The Mango-powered smartphone will be making its way across stores worldwide.
The Lumia 710 is Nokia’s attempt at making Windows Phone cheaper and accessible to the market. While the Lumia 710 can be considered an 'entry level' Windows Phone, the specs says otherwise. Unlike entry level Android phones for example, the Lumia 710 features the same speedy 1.4GHz Snapdragon SoC that powers the Lumia 800.
Apart from the same processor and graphic accelerator, the Lumia 710 differs from using a different screen technology (Clear Black LCD vs Clear Black AMOLED), running on the same 480x800 resolution. Unlike the screen on the Lumia 800, the display here uses traditional RGB matrix rather than much maligned PenTile.

The camera is a 5MP variety with a LED flash. While it ins't a Carl Zeiss branded, the camera is capable of taking 720p videos. While the Lumia 800 shares the same body as the Meego-powered Nokia N9, the Lumia 710 is a Nokia 603 after undergoing a Windows Phone transplant. The 1300mAh battery is disappointing, but at least it is replaceable.
Despite the use of plastic, the 710 feels solid and comfortable to ...

Eldar is known to have a rather good track record with reporting new handsets months before launch. With MWC right around the corner , we should be hearing more about the handset if it exists.

Bloomberg reports that if analyst figures are to be believed , the Nokia Lumia series of handsets might have shipped in excess of 1million handsets so far. The figure was achieved by taking an average of the input from 22 different analysts , in other words it should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Storebrand Asset Management fund manager Espen Furnes said. “If Nokia is able to have a strong launch and surpass at least 1 million and keep that type of momentum, this would help put them in a credible position that is crucial to winning back investors.” Nokia unveiled its first US centric handset ie the Lumia 900 at CES which it hopes would help it make a dent in the North American market. The phone will be sold by AT&T and will come with onboard LTE support. With MWC right around the corner , we expect to see the next round of Android handsets with the latest Android 4.0 OS and super powered specifications. Do you think the Nokia 900 will be sufficient to compete and drive sales ? We would love to hear your comments on it !

The Nokia Lumia 900 comes with a 4.3-inch (800 x 480 pixels) AMOLED CBD display, 1.4 GHz Single core CPU, Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango), 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens, 720p video recording, Dual LED Flash and 1.3MP secondary camera, 512 MB RAM and 16 GB internal memory . The connectivity features include, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, LTE (Downlink 50 Mbps, Uplink 25 Mbps). It is 11.5 mm thick and weighs 160 g and has a 1830mAh battery.
You can pre-register for the Nokia Lumia 900 from Carphone Warehouse but there is no expected price or exact release date. The LTE is not mentioned anywhere in the site. LTE is just in trial stage in UK. We have to wait till we get more details at MWC 2012 next month. It is expected to be available in the US from AT&T in March.

You can grab a Nokia Lumia 800 for as low as Rs.27798 and the Lumia 710 for Rs.17593. Once you add the item to your cart use the coupon SH911 to get the best price.
Although the site promises free next day delivery , when we entered a pincode , it said that it will be delivered in 4 days for the 800 and 2 days for the 710. Personally none of u here have shopped on Saholic but the site is from the Spice Group which has it's own mobile phones in the market. Anyone of you have any feedback about the site and does the offer sound impressive to you ?

News has just rolled in that Ferd Capital has sold its portfolio company Smarterphone AS (Formerly Kvaleberg AS) to Nokia Corporation which is the world’s leading producer of mobile phones. The transaction was completed in November 2011.
“Egil Kvaleberg is a world class software architect and founder. His internationally recruited and unique team situated in Oslo has created an operating system for lower end mobile phone that provides highly advanced functionality on very moderate hardware” says Annar Bohn, Investment manager in Ferd Capital. “Our belief in the team, technology and the long term market for feature phones remains firm, and we believe the company has now found a fantastic new home with Nokia”, he continues.
Smarterphone delivers an operating system optimized for feature phones but provides a user experience which parallels smartphones. The operating system can be tailored according to user requirements and markets. Smarterphone operates out of Oslo , Norway. It remains to be seen whether Nokia will be replacing S40 with the work of its new acquisition or uses it to enhance its own product.

Nokia India has launched an online store for its range of mobile phones called NokiaShop at nokia.indiatimes.com. The backend seems to be powered by the India Times shopping engine. I would assume the stocks are supplied by the Nokia distribution network as it is a joint venture and authorized by Nokia India. One of the highlights is the possibility to buy phones with Interest Free EMIs spread over 3 or 6 months. There is a Cash on Delivery payment option too for most phones and other payment modes supported are Net Banking,Credit Card and Debit Card.
Delivery time to most cities is under 4 days and there is a 7 day return policy.Pretty good move but a tad late. Wish they start stocking accessories too.

From deadmau5 concerts in London to free Xbox, Lumia taxis in India. We can see that Nokia is serious about these devices and are trying to make Windows Phone popular, well the Nokia Lumia 900 is on it's way to U.S and will be the first flagship device to enter the American shores after many years of absence in the American market.
Nokia and Microsoft have decided to raise the bar in marketing their mobile phones, they spent loads of money in marketing the Lumia 800, I am not sure if their sales were great and whether the marketing has paid off or not but I am sure that many people have used Windows Phone and aware of Windows Phone Operating System and Nokia's devices. I myself experienced the Lumia 800 at a mall where the Lumia promoters performed a flashmob to get attention of all the people to their stall in which they were promoting the device.
Well, we had the Verge telling it's readers that the Lumia ...

If you thought that the Nokia N9/Lumia 800 designs looked slick, then you have to take a look at the Nokia 1 tablet concept by yronimus. The concept is certainly one of the best looking tablets that we've seen if not the best.
The concept runs on Windows 8 and according to rumours, Nokia is planning on releasing a Windows 8 tablet in 2012. It is based on the Nokia Lumia 800 design but is much slimmer and retains the monoblock design.
The specifications of the device are:
	187.6 x 293 x 8.5mm , 580 grams
	Windows 8 OS ARM Edition
11.6" AMOLED Display with 1280x800 Pixels Resolution
	32GB or 64GB Internal Memory, 2GB RAM
5 Megapixel Camera with Full 1080p HD Video Recording at 30 FPS, 2 Megapixel Front Facing Camera
	7500 mAH Battery
We hope that Nokia at least takes a few design cues from this concept and if the end product looks anything like this, then we're going to have a best design winner for sure.
