LG reports Q3 2013 earnings, net profit down despite 12 million smartphone shipments

LG Electronics has announced their earnings for Q2 2013. They have reported net profit of 109 billion Won (US$ 109 million) with operating profits of 217.80 billion Won (US$ 196.34 million). Even though the mobile communications sector earned revenues of 3.05 trillion Korean Won (US$ 2.75 billion), a 24% increase YoY, the operating profit is down by 80 billion Won (US$ 75.7 million) mainly due the marketing for the G2 says the company. LG shipped 12 million units of mobile phones in Q3 2013, which is slightly less than last quarter. Nokia Lumia 1520 Vs LG G2 Hands On

Nokia World event, held at Abu Dhabi witnessed a lot of device announcements from the Finnish company and among the smartphones announced was Nokia’s first phablet – Nokia Lumia 1520. Nokia Lumia 1520 is the first Windows Phone device to be powered by a quad-core processor and not only is it the first phablet from Nokia, but it is also the first Windows Phone phablet. We bring you a quick hands-on comparison video between Nokia’s beast of a device and LG’s flagship – LG G2. LG G2 is also powered by the same quad-core processor that powers the giant Lumia 1520, but everything else about the two phones is quite different.

LG Fireweb running Firefox OS launched in Brazil

LG has launched Fireweb, the company’s first smartphone running on Firefox OS for Telefónica in Brazil. This has a 4-inch (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1 GHz single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and runs on the latest Firefox 1.1 OS that brings MMS, better Search, performance improvements and more. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash that supports VGA video recording. It has 3G connectivity and packs a 1540 mAh battery. LG G Flex photos surface online

When Samsung announced their Galaxy Round, most people were left to wonder about the practicality of a device with curved display and curved build. We were also sure of the fact that sooner or later, other manufacturers would follow the trend and release a curved phone. As expected LG was building a curved phone as rumors started floating around the Internet about that and a couple of weeks back, the supposed official press render of LG G Flex was leaked.

The Verge were able to get some exclusive photos of the LG G Flex device from an Argentinian journalist and they have posted photos of it. You can check out the photos below.

LG G Flex with 6-inch Curved OLED display press images surface

We already know that LG is working on a smartphone with a curved OLED display. LG already announced that they have already started mass producing 6-inch curved OLED smartphone displays which is vertically concave from top to bottom with a radius of 700mm. LG Chem also confirmed the existence of curved batteries. Now Engadget and CNET have posted press renders of the LG G Flex smartphone. LG has officially announced the G Pro Lite, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone. It surfaced recently and packs a 5.5-inch (960 ×540 pixels) IPS display, powered by a 1 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6577processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a Stylus Pen for handwriting that can be stored conveniently in a slot. It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. LG Chem begins mass production of curved batteries for flexible smartphones

LG Chem, the leading battery manufacturer and an arm of LG Electronics has announced that they have started mass producing curved batteries for their upcoming smartphone with a flexible display. LG begins mass production of 6-inch flexible OLED smartphone display

LG Display, the display arm of LG Electronics has announced that they have started mass producing the world’s first flexible OLED display for smartphones. This comes after a report that LG is working on the G Flex smartphone with a curved OLED display. LG did not reveal the display resolution of the panel but it said that the display size would be 6 inches. It says that the this would be the world’s slimmest display among existing mobile device panels and would weigh just 7.2 grams. Google Nexus 5 complete specifications revealed in leaked service manual

Specifications of the Google Nexus 5 were detailed in the leaked log file recently. Now the official sketch, images and the entire specifications have been revealed in a leaked internal service manual. The phone has a model number LG-D821 and would sport a 4.95-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) full HD IPS display, powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and run on Android 4.4 (Kit Kat). It is expected to come with a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. LG G Flex smartphone with 6-inch Curved OLED display reportedly coming in November

LG Electronics  plans to launch a smartphone with a curved screen next month, according to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal. CNET reported yesterday that new LG with a concave curved display will be revealed later this month and will be called the LG Z or Z1. We don’t have any solid leaks or a image of the prototype yet, but WSJ has posted a prototype sketch of the device that shows how much the device will bend. Samsung is also rumored to introduce the Galaxy Note 3 Active with curved display later this month. LG, Samsung All Set to Launch Curved Display Phones Later This Month

We’ve been hearing about flexible displays for quite a few years now but the technology was always a bit too far ahead of the curve. However, it looks like we’ll finally be seeing commercial applications of curved edge displays in smartphones. We have already brought to you a demo of LG’s curved edge television which indicates how the South Korean company has the technology in place to mass produce such panels.  ZD Net earlier reported that a new LG with a concave curved display will be revealed later this month and will be called the LG Z or Z1.

Complete specifications of the Google Nexus 5 surfaced in a leaked log file yesterday, now a new image of the phone has surfaced on Macrumors forum. The image looks like the first image that showed up in first official video from Google. This also looks similar to the short video and images that surfaced last month.
