Apple reports $45.4 billion revenue in FY Q3 2017, iPhone sales cross 1.2 billion since launch

Apple has reported quarterly revenue of $45.4 billion with a net profit of $8.7 billion in their earnings for the financial year Q3 2017 that ended July 1, 2017. Revenues were up 7% year-over-year. Apple reported quarterly earnings per diluted share of $1.67 compared to diluted share of $1.42 in the year-ago quarter. During earnings call Tim Cook said that iPhone sales were impressive, with strong demand at the high end of its lineup. Apple said to invest $2.7 billion in LG to get OLED panels for future iPhones

Apple has invested $2.7 billion (3 trillion Korean Won) in LG Display to secure OLED displays for future iPhones, according to a latest report from The Korea Herald. This year’s iPhone 8 is rumored to sport OLED display instead of LCD display and these will be sourced from Samsung. Apple removes all VPNs from China App Store

Apple is removing all Virtual Private Network (VPNs) from its App Store in China. The company sent notifications to developers in China explaining their VPN app was removed from the App Store. VPNs allow users to bypass China’s so-called “Great Firewall” aimed at restricting access to overseas sites.

Nokia received $2 billion up-front cash payment from Apple as part of patent settlement

Apple iPhone 8 might not ship until late 2017, Face ID 3D facial recognition details surface

Earlier this month, a report said that the iPhone 8 will come in four colors, one of which will feature a mirror-like finish. Now a new report from Japan’s Macotakara says that it will come in different colors, but it will not come in White.  It also says that it will not ship until Q4 2017, which is between October to December. Intel accuses Qualcomm’s anti-competitive actions for mobile chips

Intel has accused Qualcomm of creating a monopoly for itself and not licensing “standard-essential” patents at a fair rate as required by law. The statement, filed with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) comes in response to Qualcomm’s suit against Apple alleging that the iPhone maker was infringing on six patents that aided iPhone battery life. Clips app gets Disney and Pixar characters and new graphic overlays

Apple had launched Clips video creation app for iPhone and iPad earlier in March. Now, the company has updated the app with addition of classic Disney and Pixar characters. The update which bumps the app to version 1.1 also features animated overlays of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck.
