We all don't really know what the future holds, but after a couple of weeks with the N9, a lot of joy and a lot of sorrow using it, there are some Nokia N9 ideas that I think are worth having in other devices _ Meego, Windows Phone, S40, Symbian, or whatever the future Nokia devices will run _ and some others that I believe should be locked away in a drawer for all eternity. I'll take the liberty of loosely calling these ideas "novelties" even though some of them aren't exactly new to Nokia or the mobile industry as whole, but these have mostly been made more prominent with the N9.
5 N9 "Novelties" Nokia Should Keep

Polycarbonate Materials
The N9's build quality is wonderful and that's all thanks to the Polycarbonate materials used. The whole body is carved out of one piece of plastic, yet when you hold it, it doesn't even feel like plastic. It's tough, rigid, quite resistant to scratches, and it never got hot while I was using it like my ...

One of the most recent ones though occurred just a couple of weeks ago and it made me see things in a different perspective. See, my luck had it that I received a faulty Nokia E7 unit, which had software glitches from the first time I turned it on and then hardware issues as well. While this was bound to happen, as there will always be that one unit that runs away from quality control in production plants, it isn't the problems that arose that annoyed me, but the fact that Symbian's only way of fixing them was Restoring and starting from scratch.
Here is a recount of my adventures with the Nokia E7 and the glitches I started noticing as I went along battling it to get it to a working state.
When I first got the Nokia E7, I inserted my SIM, turned it on and set up my WiFi access point as I'd much rather use bandwidth connection over WiFi especially that there are some data intensive steps when ...

Man, what an #epic #win year it’s been for Apple! Poor-antenna-PR aside, pretty much everything the folks from Cupertino launched hit gold in 2010, whether it was the refreshed take on the iPods or the iPhone or the all new iPad, which spawned an almost dysenteric flow of Android tablets for the rest of the year! Not to forget the impossibly thin(ner) MacBook Air, which points to the future of how Apple notebooks will be. Think about it – a Jan. 27 iPad announcement, then the April 8 iOS 4 preview followed by the June 7 WWDC launch of the iPhone 4, and then the Sept. 1 iPod updates and finally…closing out the year with the Oct. 20 ‘Back to the Mac’ announcements! Phew!
As A Byte of Apple wraps up on 2010, it is the season for speculation about what the next year will bring for Apple. Our takes on these usually go ten deep, but in the giving spirit of the season, we’ve thrown in one extra for no additional cost! Here are our 11 for 2011…

There is a champ in every field, and in mobile operating systems, Android OS is the true champion. In 2008, Google launched the first Android powered phone, the G1 a.k.a known as HTC Dream. And now after 2 years, Google Android is the most favorite mobile operating system. A popular online news site known as Wall Street Journal posted a poll on their site, and named it " Who makes the best mobile operating system?". More than 3 million people voted and at the moment, Android is leading the poll by 3 million+ votes, which is actually 99.3% of all votes. Actually, Microsoft was leading the poll, but when Android fan boys attacked, they kicked all other operating systems. Apple iOS is currently on 3rd place with only 5,000 votes, which is shocking.
PCWorld has announced the 100 Best Tech products of 2010, and again Android is the winner. Android 2.2 is at the first place by beating Apple iPad. There is no doubt in it that Android deserve this title, because 2010 is the Year of Android. This year, we saw several Android devices, Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, Droid X, and T-Mobile G2 are few of them. Now Android ...

I have two friends who are users of BlackBerry devices, X and N. X is staying here in Mumbai and N is in Ahmedabad and both know each other and are friends. Day before yesterday my friend, X decided to transfer music on his phone and for the same connected it to his PC using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. At that time he was told that there were updates available for his device - the 8520.
He decided to upgrade it. The upgrade went off smoothly. At the time of starting his BBM he was asked if he would like to restore his contacts from a backup. To this request he selected 'yes' and immediately his list was populated with BBM contacts and lists in which he was not a member. This was N's contact list. And X's contact list was replaced immediately on N's BlackBerry 8900.
A lot of BBM contacts are common and all of these people immediately were effected by this change. This meant that the identity (Name, status message and photo) got swapped and also their PINS. So anyone of us pinging X on his pin was now actually pinging N and vice versa.
We later realized that N ...

Did you regret on purchasing iPad WiFi and do you feel left out when you are not in WiFi hotspot. Ya, I too have the same feeling as I was one of the early adopter and at that time only iPad WiFi was available. Here I will be discussing about three different ways to convert your iPad WiFi into 3G enabled iPad.
Options #1
Requirements:
Symbian S60 device or Maemo device
	JoikuSpot App
How To:
If you carry a Symbian S60 device then you can even tether your GPRS/EDGE/3G connection into WiFi, just install JoikuSpot and it will broadcast your your mobile internet connection into WiFi. In simple words JoikuSpot turns your phone to a secure mobile WLAN HotSpot. It comes in two flavor a lite and a premium version, you can even check the difference of two version.
The App works great and the battery consumption is not so high, for $12 it's a steal.
Option #2
Requirements:
	A Jailbroken iPhone
	MyWi App
How To:
All of you might have heard about this app and know it's uses.It is a very useful App if you have a jailbroken iPhone and 3G SIM you are ready to go.
Features:
- Create WiFi Hotspot to connect mutiple laptops or mobile devices to share your iPhone''s internet connection
- ...

Okay, so here I'm back with a little rant which is long overdue in my opinion. I was an Ovi User since Day 1. My Ovi Share Album is still filled with a ton of pictures, that i dont even have on my hard disk. Whenever I was on the Road, i took the Pics, uploaded them, ready for my loved ones to have a look at. But, after a huge site upate, share on Ovi got messed up and since is barely usable. After some weeks of exactly nothing happening, i decided to go for a Flickr Pro Account. Why? Simple, better integration with other OSes, much more Options, and an active developer scene, that helps making the experience better with numerous helpers, like Picnik, a great online picture editing tool.
Next up, we have Ovi Contacts. Which basically is a good Thing, as you can restore contacts and sync your phone with it. you can further edit your contacts directly on the website/Ovi suite, add birthdays, pics and all. which is pretty nifty but then again, and this is one of the biggest downers of the Ovi services: you can only use it on a Nokia Phone. Yes i ...

iPhone, the only phone I have been using for 2 years and will use it in future also. I have never used an android before and don't understand why it's after iOS and all the hype surrounded to it, so enough is enough I decided to try out Android before purchasing any Android device.
Now I will be provide step by step guide to enjoy the best of two worlds
Requirements:
iPhone 3G ( As of now, this is only supported)
A Intel based Mac with internet connection(WiFi)
	Apple iOS 3.1.2
I will be diving the guide in different parts, so it will be easier to follow.
Part A- Jailbreaking and downgrading your iPhone to 3.1.2
Steps:
You must have upgraded your iPhone to iOS 4.0, don't worry we can go back.
Connect your iPhone to the USB and put it into DFU mode, iTunes will display an alert stating you need to restore your device, click ok then hold option(shift) + click restore and navigate to your previously downloaded 3.1.2 FW.
After the restore finishes you should be hit with a 1015 error. That’s expected.
Don't worry, download RecBoot (Windows / Mac) and click on "Exit Recovery Mode".
Now for jailbreaking, follow this tutorial.
Part B- Installing Android files on your iPhone
Steps:
Now you need to install OpenSSH on ...

While everyone is anticipating the release of Android 2.2 "Froyo" at the ongoing Google I/O 2010, the next version of Android, "Android Gingerbread" is already in the works.
According to the FAQ Page of the WebM Project which was launched yesterday, Google told that the WebM support for Android will arrive in Android Gingerbread, which is slated for a Q4 2010 release.
However the exact version number of Android Gingerbread is not yet unknown. According to some reports, it could be either v2.3 or v3.0 itself.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs publicly expressed his anger against Google during the iPhone 4.0 OS Q&A session. Read more to find out what he said.
"You know, there's a porn store for Android. Anyone can download them. You can, your kids can. That's just not a place we want to go," Jobs said
Steve Jobs also unveiled iAd - Apple's own mobile advertising platform and to quote him “Listen, we don't know much about this advertising stuff. We're learning. We tried to buy this company called AdMob and Google came in and snatched them from us. We bought this other much smaller company called Quattro and they're teaching us. But we're babes in the woods.”
He admitted that Apple lacks knowledge of advertising and they tried to buy Admob and Google bought them.
Apple is suing HTC and Nokia for patent infringements but Apple is suing HTC mainly due to their Android handsets and this was seen as a move against Google rather the handset maker HTC.
Apple has also removed Google branding from iPhone 4.0 OS and the iPad according to Macrumours

What was your first phone ?
The Nokia 3310 pictured above is one of the most successful phones in cellphone history. Back them we had no Android , Symbian or iPhone to pick from. Also it shows how phones have transformed from a mere calling / messaging device to all-in-one devices with amazing computing power.
I just posted this question on twitter and the 3310 got a lot of votes . Some users like Atul were lucky to have devices like Nokia 8110 . So do share with us about your first phone and when did you get it .

Our friends in US are pre-ordering a 4G / WiMax Phone - the HTC EVO 4G. In India , we still don't have widespread 3G coverage. 3G services are being offered by only BSNL and MTNL currently and auctions for private players are hopefully starting in April.
Many users in India are already carrying a 3G capable device thanks to handset makers like Nokia and the likes. But most of those users cannot use the 3G feature on the phone here. It's simply irrelevant. Adding insult to injury is the launch of the iPhone 3GS on the nation's largest GSM operator Airtel who has a 2.5G or 2.75G network. So who is to blame for the denial of the latest technology to one of the largest mobile markets in the world ?
India is the fastest growing mobile market in the world but Broadband / Internet penetration is abysmally poor in India. For many of the millions of mobile users , the mobile phone might be their first exposure to the web. We have 545.05 Million wireless subscribers and just 8.03 million broadband subscribers
Our neighbors China have pretty good ground infrastructure which has fueled their broadband penetration to really impressive levels ...

Hi folks as we know Nokia N900 does not support sending DTMF request to the operator for credit check and other details.
Finally there is a way to do so with a click of a widget . The widget used to send DTMF request is called the USSD Widget. It is developed by Guseynov Alexey , Martin Grimme.
The widget has two ways of sending the DTMF requests one is by typing the DTMF in codes in USSD dial Pad.
And the other one is USSD Widget
So its now possible to see the DTMF response in the homescreen. This widget support automatic widget checking and many other customizations like font color, widget background colour etc..
The USSD widget need runtime components like
 python-hildondesktop
	hildon-desktop-python-loader
	pexpect
	ussd-common
And the USSD components like
 Ussd-pad
	Ussd Widget
You can Download the package with all components here.
Then transfer the contents of zip file to root of N900 i.e N900/
Then goto X-Terminal and Type
sudo gainroot
then
type cd MyDocs
place all the contents of downloaded zip file to root of N900 i.e N900/
then type
dpkg -i filename.deb
example:
dpkg -i python-hildon.deb
likewise install
python-hildondesktop
hildon-desktop-python-loader
pexpect
ussd-pad
ussd-common
ussd Widget
Have a look at the video tutorial for more brief explanation

Let us know how it worked for you..
UPDATE:
To enable root in Nokia N900. Goto App Manager in N900 ...

Ovi today launched the new version of Ovi Mail i.e. Ovi Mail 2.0.
One of the major changes in this version 2.0 is the integration of Ovi Mail with Ovi Contacts. i.e. Ovi Mail doesn't have separate address book for contacts, but instead uses Ovi Contacts now.
Another Big Update is the Arabic Support for Ovi Mail 2.0, both on web version as well as on your device. Ovi Team added that this task was a very challenging since Arabic, unlike other languages is a right to left language and therefore they had to change the whole Ovi Mail UI to support it.
Also, Ovi Mail has now reached 6 Million Users and is supposedly adding 1 million new users a month.
Do you use Ovi Mail? Do share your experiences with it below.

Brace yourself people. By the start of 2010, India would have around 500 Million (50 Crore) Mobile Phone connections, second only to China in total numbers.
Overall Telephone connections in India is currently pegged at around 550 Million connections, but considering that fact that many people have dual connections in their name and not all of them are in use at the same time, the number of Mobile connections India has, has been pegged at around 488.40 million mobile connections at the end of October 2009 and hence will be breaching the half billion mark quite soon.
However the wired connections are now sliding down with currently just around 37.25 million phones, showcasing the fact that the consumers are now preferring the wireless connections for all their data and voice communication purposes.
India’s broadband penetration, is even more pathetic at 7.5 million with no signs of 3G services in the country as yet, Chennai being an exception.
Also, India now has around 13 to 14 mobile phones operators in 22 service areas with many newcomers like Tata Docomo, Aircel, MTS Mobile, Uninor etc joining the market this year. Of these, around 8 to 9 operators are currently operational with another 5 - 6 operators ...
