Apple has reported revenue of $75.9 billion with a net profit of $18.4 billion in their earnings for the financial year Q1 2016 that ended December 26, 2015. Revenues were up 2% and earnings per share, up 7% year-over-year driven by all-time record iPhone sales, all-time record revenue from services, the expanded availability of Apple Watch and the new Apple TV. It sold 74.8 million iPhones, an all-time high, compared to 74.5 million FY Q1 2015, but it is just 1% growth, the slowest since the introduction of the smartphone in 2007. It sold 16.1 million iPads, compared to 21.4 million compared to the same quarter a year ago and sold 5.3 million Macs. Opera has updated its Opera Mini app for Android to version 14 that brings better language support, with 90 languages to choose from. This includes 13 Indian languages – Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. In addition to the improved language support, Opera Mini for Android also gets a QR- code reader and generator and an improved download manager. LG Electronics has reported revenues of 14.56 trillion won (US$ 12.57 billion) in Q4 2015, a 3.8% increase compared to the same quarter last year with operating profit of 349 billion won (US$ 301.38 million), up 27% from the same period the previous year. For the whole 2015 operating income was 1.19 trillion won (US$ 1.03 billion), compared to 1.83 trillion (US$ 1.58 billion) in 2014 on revenues of 56.51 trillion won (US$ 48.8 billion), compared with 59.04 trillion won (US$ 50.98 billion) the previous year, mainly due to sluggish global market demand for TVs and softer growth of smartphone market. OnePlus has finally started rolling out Oxygen OS v2.2.0 OTA update for the OnePlus X smartphone, couple of months after it rolled out the OxygenOS 2.1.3 update. This update fixes USSD issues for India finally, so that pre-paid users will now receive USSD notification after a call, SMS and for data usage. The update also adds manual mode that is already present in the OnePlus 2, option to save images in SD card directly in camera, security patches, bug fixes and optimizations. iBall has launched the Slide 3G Q45i, the company’s latest Android tablet in the Slide series. It has a 7-inch (1024×600 pixels) IPS screen, is powered by a quad-core 64-bit Intel Atom x3 processor and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). It has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera. It has dual-SIM support, 3G connectivity and voice calling capabilities.
Vodafone has launched its 4G LTE services in Kolkata after a month of launching its 4G services in Kerala. It was launched in Mysore earlier this month. It is based on 1800MHz FDD-LTE band 3 and is built on a strong fibre backhaul. Vodafone 4G is available in BBD Bag, Park Street, Alipore, Ballygunge, Salt Lake Sector 5, Airport and EM bypass in the circle and the roll-out will be completed across all parts of Kolkata by June 2016 in a phased manner. Lenovo has announced K5 Note, the successor of the K4 Note that was launched in India recently, after it got certified by TENAA. It packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop), similar to the K4 Note, but this is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P10 processor. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a aluminium unibody design and fingerprint sensor on the back that can detect fingerprints in just 0.3 seconds. Airtel has commercially launched its 4G LTE services in Kochi in Manjeri, Tirurangadi & Thalaserry in Kerala. With this Airtel 4G is now present in 50 towns in Kerala. It launched 4G services in 296 towns across India earlier back in August last year. It was launched in Kochi in the same month and in Thiruvananthapuram in September. Airtel 4G is available to customers across mobile phones, dongles, 4G hotspots and Wi-Fi dongles in the city. For existing Airtel customers, the company is offering a complimentary upgrade to Airtel 4G at same price as 3G. It was announced back in November last year along with the Vibe X3 Lite, packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display, is powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). It has a 21-megapixel rear camera with phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) to focus quickly, dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX230 sensor, 4K video recording and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

We already brought you the unboxing and teardown of the smartphone, here we have its benchmarks. It is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek MT6753 processor (Even though CPU-Z shows it as MT6735) with eight ARM Cortex A53 CPUs clocked at 1.3GHz per core, has Mali-T720 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Back in October soon after the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones running Windows 10 Mobile were introduced, Microsoft said that Windows 10 update will be rolling out for existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices in December. Later it said that the update is delayed till early 2016. Now Venture Beat is reporting that Windows 10 Mobile to current Windows Phone 8 handsets will be delayed by another month. Qualcomm announced SafeSwitch kill switch solution to address mobile security threat, back in September 2014. Earlier this month at the CES it said that it will be working with OEMs to introduce the feature in devices powered by its flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processors.
