BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 review

For all the claims that RIM is dead, they still have a stronghold on the corporate sector. So how do you create a product for the discerning CEO and set it apart from the millions of other BlackBerry devices out there ? The aim  here was not to attain the best performance or best in class camera but to a device which would sets them apart. Something which would be unique enough to show that they have arrived.

The Porsche brand is a symbol of automative excellence. The Blackberry is a CEO’s best friend. Sometime back, the two decided to get together and create a product which combines high end materials and design abilities of Porsche along with the business ready nature of a Blackberry. When Porsche Design CEO Huergen Gessler decided to speak to Blackberry about a prospective collaboration, one thing led to another and the Porsche Design P’9981 was born. Samsung to launch Windows RT based tablet by October reports Bloomberg

Bloomberg reports that Samsung will be launching a Windows RT based tablet come October. With Microsoft entering the tablet game themselves by launching the Surface line of tablets, it will be interesting to see how Samsung differentiates itself.

Jolla launched by ex-Nokians to carry on the MeeGo torch

Nokia’s stint with MeeGo might be over but the community is not going to let go of the promising OS. Ex-Nokians who were part of the development team have banded together to form Jolla which is Finnish for ‘rescue sail boat’ which is clearly a tongue in cheek reference to the burning ship memo by   Nokia’s Elop.

RIM announces 3 billion app downloads from the BlackBerry App World

Samsung begins rolling out Android 4.0 tablet updates

Post the Android 4.1 announcement at Google I/O a few days back, Samsung has finally begun the Android 4.0 update roll out to its tablet lineup. Starting off with the Galaxy Tab 7.7, the rest of the devices still stuck on Honeycomb should get the update shortly.

HTC doesn’t violate Apple patents says UK Judge

Judge Christopher Floyd from a UK court has ruled that HTC does not violate four patents as claimed by Apple. This includes the infamous slide to unlock claim. More interestingly, the judge says that three of the four patents are not valid.

Apple prepping iPad Mini to combat the Nexus 7 says Bloomberg

Nokia 808 PureView Review

Every once in a while a phone is released which showcases the best of technology possible at that time. Back in 2007, it was the Nokia N95 which showcased exactly how to build a mobile computer. The N95 truely was a revolutionary device packing everything but the kitchen sink under its plastic shell ! The very same year Apple announced the iPhone. It single handedly defined how to make a great and easily understood user interface and made Symbian look clunky and redundant overnight. Since then we’ve had various permutations and combinations of the formulae attempted to various degrees of success.

Fast forward to 2012 and we have another revolutionary device. The Nokia 808 PureView is hands down the best camera phone ever released. In fact it might hold its own for a few years given that the phone which comes closest is still only the 808’s two year old predecessor. RIM announces $518 million net loss, 5000 job cuts as part of Q1 earnings

As part of the earnings call report, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins has just announced a net loss of $518 million. For the first quarter of the 2013 fiscal year , the company has brought in 33% lesser revenue from the previous quarter accounting for $2.8 billion.

Google’s Nexus 7 tablet revealed, Comes with quad core Tegra 3 processor

Google is expected to announce its first foray into a Nexus branded tablet device. Ahead of the Google I/O event, Modaco  has managed to get its hands on the complete spec sheet and product images from the Play Store servers. The tablet will presumably be the first device to run the next generation Android Jelly Bean OS.

BlackBerry 10 based devices detailed, Touchscreen only L series and QWERTY enabled N series coming

N4BB has managed to get hold of RIM’s plans with its upcoming BlackBerry 10 based devices. On announcing the OS, rumors spread wide that the famed enterprise focused device manufacturer was about to ditch its much lauded QWERTY keypad.
