Third Worker Dies In Foxconn Plant Explosion

Foxconn’s Chengdu plant was recently in the news because of an explosion resulting from combustible aluminum dust stuck in the ducts in the polishing section of the plant. Two workers were immediately reported dead with as many as 16 others critically injured. Today another worker succumbed at a local hospital due to injuries from the explosion. Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou meanwhile issued a statement that the explosion would in no way affect production of the iPad 2 while adding that products scheduled for Quarter 3 production would also be on track.

iPhone 5 To Sport Curved Glass Display ?

Digitimes strikes again with news that Apple plans to fit curved glass displays in the next iPhone . Cover glass manufacturers have been reported to be reluctant to invest the large amount of capital required to procure machines capable of making curved glass panels in sufficient quantities. Due to this Apple has had to  procure 200-300 curved glass cutting machines to make displays for its upcoming iPhone 5 .

Japan’s NTT Docomo Launching 24 New Devices

Japan’s largest telecom operator NTT Docomo just revealed its plans for the summer by announcing 24 new devices. These phones cover almost any kind of usage a person might have or want and gives them unparalleled choice. Android Gingerbread is the operating system of choice on 8 of the devices. The camera phone segment has been pushed up a notch by the 6 devices on offer with cameras ranging from 12 to a whopping 16 megapixels.

Nokia N9 / RM-680 Passes FCC Tests , Coming Soon ?

The long awaited MeeGo smartphone by Nokia might finally be making its way to consumers soon. FCC documents reveal that the device has undergone testing and packs in quad band GSM and penta band 3G support like the recent Symbian 3 devices. The device bears an uncanny resemblance to the previously leaked design. There were rumors around the internet that the design had been ditched for an all new fully touch based phone but the FCC images say otherwise.
