    Hi,
Waiting for iPhone 3GS, is not worth NOW, as in 8 months, iPhone 4G, will be launched !
Moreover, even before iPhone 4G, HTC HD2 phones, which are better than iPhone will be launched !

and Whenever iPhone 3GS is launched in India, It will be locked n still priced dumb~lly @ 32000. whereas Better phones (Unlocked) are nowadays available in the range of 25~29K.

Apple has lost it in India. & doesn’t understand India’s market dynamics…
I’ll surely be buying HTC HD2, or a competitive product…

  • andy

    hey frnds,
u dont need only money to buy i-Phones, apple is the brand that can’t be understand easily. also a mobile maniac will never like i phone. even i dont use it, but i gonna buy it for my dad. because he deserve it. hope u nderstand.

  • Naman

people the hd2 is one hell of a phone. I’ve read A LOT about it. First things first. People it will be AT LEAST 40000 in India. Way more expensive than the iphone for sure. Don’t believe me? Look at the evidence. Compare it to an old htc phone called htc magic.
Magic is sold for 32000 in India.
It has a 3.2 inch screen, smaller than the iphone. HD2 4.5 inch screen way more expensive. (also high resolution)
magic has an arm11 400ish mhz processor. HD2: 1gz snapdragon processor. Way more cost
The hd2 is slimmer, more cost.
The HD2 has 5 mp camera and dual led, compared to a 3.2 mp camera. WAY MORE MONEY
also the hd2 runs winmo, more costly than android.
    the sense ui, r&d charges.
The HD 2 is definately more than 40000 in India.

And please 32000 thousand for an iphone is a completely justifiable price. wtf?
    what do you want?
oh good phones from 25000 to 29000? Name one that comes close to the iphone.
The phone thats come closest b4 hd2 is htc hero, and thats about 35000 (not sure about exact)
What you want the iphone for $200, like in the US?? OK sure enough pay $80 a month for two years then? Thats what they go through.
seriously. 32000 for an iphone is good enough. Its just bad that most indians can’t afford it anyway.
Just cuz you can’t afford it doesn’t make it overpriced, its just a premium product you want really badly, cuz its awesome. Sour grapes evidently!
And andy! you gotta be dumb to say that a mobile maniac will never like the iphone.
Its the largest selling smartphone in the US and in UK and many other european countries. AND japan.
Its an amazing phone, and you don’t understand because of 1 of two reasons:
    1) u haven’t really used it.,
    2) you didn’t realise all that you can do with it, and never even used the web on it or downloaded a single app. seriously, its awesome.

    instructions:
Put good music on it, that you’ll listen to on the go.
keep earphones with you and listen to music when you want to
    download apps that interest you
    download games, that you like
buy a data plan and get your house wi-fi.
browse the net on the go and enjoy the awesomeness of the browser. (Its better than a comp sometimes. almost as fast, cuz you don’t have power on, and fun to flick and pan around)
click pictures with the fun touch to focus feature, and see how low res pictures can look better due to better white balance and auto-contrast.
record video, and trim them on the phone. NO OTHER PHONE CAN DO THAT
if you are really a mobile maniac as you claim you are, you will love it.
Forget the specifications on paper. its the experience that counts, and iphone will give you an experience no other phone can come close to. You can quote me on that.

    • bala

HTC Magic not 32000, i got it for 24000 on airtel last week.

      • Naman

        hey bala,
thats really good to know. Well I guess my info is quite outdated. I checked the price of magic some time ago, and well it was about 31-32 thousand then. It must have come down in all these months.
Anyway hows your experience on it.
Also, I still hold my stand when I say that the hd2 will be >40000. It has the specs to demand that much. I can draw comparisons with other phones but whats the point, they are not available in india.
Anyway motorola droid is a good phone coming soon as well
So is htc dragon, which is basically hd2 but with android istead which is way faster and more stable than winmo.
So if you’re waiting for a hd2, wait a little longer and get an even better device.
Android also makes more sense as android 2.0 is round the corner, while winmo7 is like a year away. So you can upgrade faster on android apart from other obvious benefits!

    • HaiL to da Gr8 KaNe

@naman u r the dude!! all those ppl who think iPhone 3GS aint good are ppl who dont hav knowledge abt phones and computers and arnt fit for it!!
i mean andy have u ever surfed the net on the go?
do u even kno what Edge means? or WiFi??
then u say blah blah abt the iPhone!
and yeah “App Store” ever heard abt that andy?

    • Saahil

hey naman.. like you i an an apple freak and a die hard fan of iphone.. but some where deep down the heart i feel that apple have lost it to 2 things
      1. the Android OS
      2. the multi tasking ability

please tell me if you know something that convinces me on this.. i was waiting iphone since so long but when i see phones like HTC HD 2 with capacitive touch screens.. multi tasking and i gig snapdragon processor and better screen resolution.. i ask myself why shud i go for iphone ?? please dude convince me on this.. i wud really like to buy iphone and wud love to hear that multi tasking is possible on it..

and with the rumor of HTC Passion/dragon very ripe it will well be an iphone comprehensive killer as it will have Android 2.0 with all the features of HTC HD2.. if you ask me i will go for passion :)

  • andy

thanks for a nice response. m convince. ok. happy!!!
now let me have one i phone, acctually its not available in India, (about 3GS)except grey.
by the way u people didn’t understood me.
m not against to i phones.
it is the only phone which comes under top 100 brands, leaving back all mobile brands.
well as i havn’t use it only my frnds have it. i dont know what they tell is true? u ppl confirm me.
they say it dont support java??
    what about bluetooth made for??
they say battery is weak n non-removable so what do we do if the phone freezes, as removing the battery is the only option to get it started again.
ya.. camera is now coming 3mega ummm… when other brands r fighting with 8 & 12 megas. but i think what to do with mega, just give me a satisfactory result, thats all. perhaps larger megapixel pics consume more space(2-3 of MB)n i phone cant rotate a large sized file so fast.
n dear Naman how u take pics in dark? my frnds told me that there is no flash.
one of my frnd cant forward sms. is it true?

naman n HaiL to da Gr8 KaNe have u ever heard about 3G UMTS or HSCSD..?
when world is talking bout 12 mega n umts n hscsd u ppl raise ur hand with ur ifon n say yes i hav 2 megapixel n edge techno. blahh blaah..

    look frnds,
The truth behind all of this is that the iphone is NOT inovative in it’s technology. It does however market itself very well. Trust me when I say this. Most people who want this phone are not true cell phone geeks.

but m gonna have the new apple 3gs.

  • Archi

I’m sorry people, the but the truth is, not only the iPhone is smooth, fast, smart, cool and convenient all in one phone, the software has the best overall functionality. iPhone has 3D apps and games, that are actually functional and fun, and multiplayer apps/games. Windows mobile SOFTWARE is not even finger friendly, does not have any app that is useful (I know, i’ve owned a WM6/6.5 phone for 5 years). Appstore, has tons of software to choose from, fast and easy install. iPhone has the smoothest scrolling and highly accurate. HTC HD2 takes 8 minutes to bootup and skips just like your desktop windows, drags on and on until every damn service loads up in the background.

  • Naman

OK andy here are some answers:
First up I’ll talk about the camera. A camera is becoming a common feature on like all phones these days. However, there are few phones which have it as a main feature.
The iphone really is not trying to be digital camera. So ya I agree if you want an awesome camera phone iphone is not the phone for you. you should get one of those 12 megapixel camera phones.
And ya the iphone does not have a flash. However there is something you SHOULD know. Even though the iphone has a 3.2 mp camera, it has some really great software that when you click a picture it does amazing white balancing and color correction. So even though the pictures have a low resolution, they LOOK way more beautiful than most other camera phones. (not exaggerating trust me)
It doesn’t support java? java is a programming language. your question doesn’t make sense. However, i think you’re talking about java apps. well even then its dumb to ask because the iphone has the most number of apps on any platform, so how does it matter that it doesn’t run a few java apps that are anyway made for other platforms.
Bluetooth: used for: multiplayer gaming, and pairing headsets. It doesn’t support picture sharing just like that, but there are apps that can let you do just that. It’ll never let you share music via bluetooth though, as its piracy. (btw you can even chat via bluetooth between two iphones/ipod touches with some free apps.) overall has less use than on other phones but not such a big deal apart from music sharing which is anyway illegal.
The battery is non-removable, but that is done is order to put as big a battery as possible. You should tell your friends to read the manual. If the iphone ever hangs, you’re supposed to hold the sleep button for 5 seconds and it hard shuts the iphone off. So you never need to remove the battery, like on other phone. (works like a computer thats hung. you don’t need to cut the power supply…)
And you can forward sms’s now. It wasn’t possible earlier. now it is. Tell him to update his software. Probably because he got it from the grey market he had to unlock it and is stuck on older software.

And you have to be dumb to say the iphone is not innovating. The iphone has caused everyone to make touchscreen phones. Seriously. Ok the iphone might seem like it doesn’t have a few features. you might think it has a bad camera cuz of less megapixels. you might think of other problems etc. BUT the experience of the phone is what matter in the end, and it WIN totally because of the awesome software.
    Think of it like this:
would you rather use a computer which is not very powerful but has windows/linux/os X on it,
    OR
a super computer with nothing but DOS to operate on it.
Sure you might say that the first computer is slower. It doesn’t have a good processor, whatever. but the point is with good software it has a much better experience and the ability to install many more softwares.

smartphones are just like computers. cmon.

if you still think true phone fanatics will not like the iphone, you haven’t realized the difference between a normal phone like moto razr which were great a few years ago, and a smartphone. The way the smartphone market works is very different. And it all depends on how fast and how well you canuse the web etc.

    And ya finally about 3g.
well 3g is way to transmit data and voice over the air, on a technology based on cdma. Think of gprs, and then edge, and make that MUCH faster. I don’t know how well that’ll work in india though because even our broadband speeds are slower than the 3g speeds in the US.
Anyway about 3g coming to India. BSNL has already launched its service in many parts of the country. The spectrum will be auctioned early next year if everything goes as planned, and carriers should start offering the service by april next year.

OH and iphone has support for 3.5 G which is far from being launched in India. So as of now any phone you get will be using edge. because no1 wants to use bsnl, and their 3g service is highly limited.
You don’t anything you’re talking about seriously you need to do some research.

Most people who do not want this phone are:
    1) apple haters (many exist for no rhyme or reason)
    2) can’t afford it, and hence say its a bad phone
    3) can’t understand the value of software and the user interface and experience. and are sold by simple specs on paper.
    4) don’t understand the great number of things you can do with apps.
    5) are waiting for something better, which could only be offered by android in the current scenario, but not too soon, because they don’t have many good apps right now.

So eventually if you want a good SMARTPHONE, not a good CAMERAPHONE, or whatever, the iphone is still the best there is.

P.S. Lots of problems that people have with their iphone is because they buy it from the grey market, and have to jailbreak it and hack it, which obviously causes lots of problems. buy the phone officially next month and you will see no problems.

    • Satya

      Hmmmmm, Wah! Achha likhta hai…

    • andy

Dear Naman, thank you so much.
acctually i wanted to know & hear qualities about i phone, before i buy it, and u did. thanks man.
i gonna buy it, but i-phone 3GS is not available in India.
      anyway m just waiting.

  • Yunus

I completely agree wit u naman. I have used all d nseries, eseries, diamond n best of Ericsson but I finally landed to iPhone 3g. It is best feautured n d most user friendy fone I Eva used. I Neva feel d lack of blutooth. My apple doesn’t needs it. My 2mp cam is better Dan a 5mp nokia fone cam. I’d die for an apple anyday. It’s worth millons.

  • Naman

Satya thanks, Andy good to know your misconceptions have been cleared.

    OK now for some news.
I noticed that no-one online has any updates on when the iphone 3gs is coming to india since august. I have complete news.
    Firstly why it was delayed.
Apple apparently does have some priority for the Indian market. iPhone 3g was a failure in India, because of bad marketing. Apple wanted to get it right this time. So they announced an August release date, and then started talking to Airtel, and vodafone. They wanted the carriers to subsidise the cost and/or market it better.
However, the carriers said it wasn’t profitable for them, and so the talks went on and the phone couldn’t be released. They kept on trying to reach a deal.
Finally a week ago, they decided to just launch the iPhone independently.
Also, there was worldwide shortage of stock due to higher than expected demand.
Anyway now the iPhone is set to launch in November, whenever they have enough stock to support a launch. Also this time, it will be launched independently, and will be sold unlocked.

Still if people can’t wait, they should try to get it from Hong Kong, where it is also sold unlocked. Also just for clarification, I want to tell you that these iPhones are unlocked legally by Apple and is not the same thing as buying from the grey market.
The phones sold in the grey market are hacked to unlock. because of that the software gets spoilt and it may cause the phone to hang and crash more often. Also you can’t upgrade to newer software, because every time you update your phone it will get locked again.

    Hope that helped.

    • Sharad

      Hi Naman,

What is your source of information of Apple being going independent in India? I am asking for very simple reason as I and am sure most of the Indian consumer of tired hearing new dates of iPhone 3GS launch.

Could you please provide us some link or info source which states that Apple is going independent and will be selling iPhone unlocked in India?

  • Alf

    hey naman,
what all music formats can the iphone play using itunes??

  • Naman

Alf, your question doesn’t have a very straight forward answer. But I’ll try.
I’m not completely sure, but a traditional iPod plays mp3 and aac formats.
So I would assume the ipod app in the iphone plays the same formats.
However, since OS 3.0 the iphone supports mms, and lets you receive sound clips which it plays on an in-built Quicktime player. Again, quicktime doesn’t play every possible format but plays a lot of them. So you shouldn’t have too many problems.

Simple truth. You can only put songs on your iphone ipod app by either buying from itunes (doesn’t work in India anyway) which anyway are compatible.
Or you sync music from your computer. And if you’re syncing from the itunes library on your computer, you can convert any song thats not compatible.

Also if any song is on your itunes library it can play on your iphone. In very rare cases, that it cannot, itunes can convert it automatically.

In case you have some music on your hard-drive that don’t even play with itunes, they again usually get converted automatically. In rare occasions that it doesn’t work you’ll need a converter.

its all too rare really because almost all music exists in mp3 format. (wma is still used sometimes, but itunes converts it automatically)

    Hope that answered your question.

  • Naman

Hey Alf as I didn’t know all this myself, this is straight from the apple website:

    Audio playback:
Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV

    Video playback
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

So basically plays almost all formats most phones play. I think the only thing missing would be wma, which is a microsoft proprietary format, and not that used anyway.

    • balendra

Go and buy the HTC HD2. i first tried my relatives iphone3GS(Unlocked) and finally settled for HD2. It simply crushes the iphone in every aspect.

  • Naman

Hey, about who told me about iPhone launching independently, its the apple distributer in Delhi.
Also, because you said that people are tired of hearing new launch dates, I want to mention again, that I wasn’t given a particular launch date. This person, I don’t really know his name, (he runs an apple store in saket) has been telling me that the iPhone will come in November since September actually. I was jus hoping it would launch sooner.
Now he said that the iPhone will launch anytime now, and apple is just waiting to gather enough stock to launch, and so havn’t decided on a particular date. They will just launch when they can.
However, I would now like to mention that I read a post online dated oct 22, that said that some airtel people said that the iPhone would launch in 7-10 days.
So both things quite match up, so this time I think it might actually launch.
But ya I got pissed myself. I’m trying to get the unlocked iPhone from Hong Kong.

  • Vivek Dw.

    Dear Naman,
Eyes opening conversations are quite enduring. so are the above written. I a also not abl to gather information abt the recent launch of apple iphone 3gs..plz get connected at Facebook for further discussions – vivek dwivedi is my facebook id.

  • Naman

Ok here’s the thing. Some of you people say that hd2 is better than the iPhone in every respect. But obviously then you have to be dumb enough to not understand what a smartphone is all about. You bitch about the camera. Why don’t you just buy the Dario it has such a great camera. The basic thing is software. And that’s where the iPhone really shines. I’ve been using it for weeks and have tried HD2. Now the thing is that hd2 has winmo 6.5. Which is just terrible. It’s so terrible that htc had to extensively cover it up with their own sense ui. Eventually you get something which looks much better and us easier to use but it still lags. It still hangs. And every once in a while you’ll open an an app that will give you an interface that can’t be used without a stylus. The thing is that yes the hd2 harware is awesomely amazing and is way better than the iphone’s. But the software is just terrible. In case you don’t want the iPhone you should rather go for google nexus one which is basically hd2 but with a slightly smaller screen and the latest android. That phone is actually better than the iPhone at almost everything but the media and app department. Even the motorola droid and palm pre are awesome phones. Just not windows mobile which is just crap and it’s a shame that’s what is on hd2.
