Nokia Interested in Palm!

According to sources, Nokia is in the process of bidding to take over Palm. The stocks of Palm gained more than 7% due to the rumoured fact that Nokia is planning to take ownership over it.

Palm rose from 1.12 USD to 17.07 US$ in the New York NASDAQ Market.

Experts say that the reason for Nokia’s thought might be due to the fact that it has fallen behind in comparison with competitors. So buying Palm would help Nokia to catch up especially software-wise.

Palm is the company behind the Palm Pre which is one of the most anticipated touchscreen smart-phones of the year. However it has been going through a lot of problems and it might eventually fall under Nokia if the deal is right.

The deal has not been confirmed either by Nokia or Palm. The rumour can very well be real looking at the amount of capital and resources available with Nokia. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

    Buying Palm would be idiotic! Nokia would be better off if they stopped aquiring overpriced overrated businesses and fix it’s own organization to modernize.

    yes Jaako, you are right !!, In fact once you buy a phone ( any model) from Nokia, the after sales service is pathetic. They should concentrate on improving customer service instead of launching new models and trapping the public.

    Nokia is the world’s leader in smartphone industry. While Apple covers only 19% and RIM 13%, Nokia dominates 45% of the world’s smartphone industry (Q2 2009).

    If Nokia buys out Palm, that would be the end of competition. Nokia wants Palm for a very good reason, the Palm Pre, the iPhone killer. The 1st generation Palm Pre has already been over 3x more successful with sales and activation over 500,000 units than the 1st generation iPhone which only activated 147,000 units. With more funding and power which Nokia can easily accommodate, that would kill the iPhone in just a few years considering their massive market share around the globe. Nothing is overpriced for Nokia if they see value in a product, like the Palm Pre. And if Nokia’s sales and service were pathetic, than they could not have acquired 45% of the world’s smartphone market. Apparently, Nokia is both a wealthy and smart company.
