Apple third-party USB charger trade-in program to start in India this month


Apple announced a take back program for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch USB power Adapters earlier this month since there were reports of safety issues with the counterfeit and third party adapters. The program started on 16th August in several countries, now BGR.in has reported that Apple India has confirmed them that the program will begin in India too, later this month. Some Apple premium retailers in Delhi are yet to confirm such offers since they might waiting for some formalities and the parts to ship, says the report.

The new USB adapter takeback program was started by Apple after several reports of users getting electric shocks due to fake third party USB adapter. This would let users drop such chargers at an Apple stores or resellers so that it could be disposed in an environmentally friendly way. Apple also offers original USB power adapter at about 50% discount when you dispose off a fake USB power adapter for a limited period.

The program runs till October 18, 2013. Some reports revealed details about the special discounted pricing for official Apple USB charging adapters for several countries recently. Apple has not revealed the discounted price for the USB adapter under this trade-in program.
