Nokia 5800 gets a new firmware upgrade, reaches v31.0.008

Good News for all the Nokia 5800 fans! It has just got a new firmware update (v31.0.008) via OTA and as well as via NSU (File size being 6MB and 100MB respectively).

The new firmware update (v31.0.008) brings along with it a lot of known bugfixes and improved sensitivity of the touchscreen. The firmware has been released for several product codes in European countries today and shall be rolling out for others in the coming few days.

To update your firmware via Over The Air method, just type *#0000# from the dialler and then press ‘Options => Check for updates‘. And if you are lucky, the update dialog would pop up, else you will have to wait for few days for the new firmware to get rolled up worldwide.

However, before proceeding with the firmware upgrade, we advise you to backup all your important phone data as usual, even though 5800 has UDP (User Data Preservation).

The Changes in the new firmware v31.0.008 are as follows:

  1. Nokia Maps has been updated to Ovi Maps 3.1
  2. The Ovi Store client has been updated to v1.05(231)
  3. Performance Improvements has been observed which means more free RAM and better memory optimisations.

    Iam in India. I checked with OTA and NSU. Both shows no update available for the device and showing the current update is V30.0.0.11. Mine is Nok5800XM RM-356. will there be a new release soon for india? I saw another thread which discussed about new update on october in india. Is that true? will there be a new update other than v31.0.0.08?

    the firmware is still not available in india.even countries like bangldesh and srilanka have recevied the update????wtf
    nokia takes indian customer completely for granted.
    even an update firmware is availble for 5530 but the phone is itself not availble in india and will not be availble befor october where as it is over a month that 5530 is availble in other parts of world.
    India is the largest market for nokia and they treat us like this.

    some users have reported getting the firmware in india. Nokia india planned to release an update in early October ,so don’t know if this update was scheduled to hit India then.

    Dear all, check your product code, (under your battery) and go to the NOKIA website to check if an update is available for your specific regional phone.

    Improved Navigation with Ovi Maps 3.01
    Improved Performance

    Other changes noticed:
    Better response from touch screen
    Free RAM improvements
    Shortcut bar instead of contacts bar
    Pause/Play with fade effect
    Earphones sound quality improved
    Deleted autorama images has been fixed
    Acellerometer almost instantaneous

    Another new thing in the update is that when you pause/play there is a fade effect…

    I have heard that the new update comes with a “performance boost”. Can anyone who updated confirm this?

    i have updated but there are no differences.
    no updates at all
    and my accelerometer is slow
    takes about 5 to 6 seconds for it to load if u rotate the screen

    its 12 october and still there is no sign of any update
    not even the 31.0.008 version is available in india .
    so is nokia going to release two updates simultaneously ?

    guys to be more helpful, i will further say, check wheather your firmware is available or not by getting your code (under the battery)and then go to nokia website under the section “can i update”, go down & you’ll see a box asking code..
    rest is i guess you are dt smart to find out..
