I want my iPhone 3GS, iDay has gone by and still no sign of India launch

Good post Varun.
But IMO, i feel it’s better Alok Sharma is being replaced by non-indian blood. If the iphone 3gs has’nt come out here yet, then i think Sharma has some amount of blame to be dealt with. Hopefully now things should move faster and we should be seeing an iphone 3gs – india soon.

Well there are reasons as to why apple will never be able to establish themselves in India ::

1——–Nobody wants to spend 33k(approx) on a phone

2——–Some dont want a data plan with airtel or vodafone

3——–Most of the hyped apps or specs of the iphone dont work in most places in India, as India is still to muster it’s technology

4——–At a much lesser expense they can get a phone like 5800XM with superb multimedia capabilities, or a samsung handset for the fact with much better camera and video recording than the ‘iphone’

5——–Unless they make a system for people to be able to change the battery in their phone or other devices for the sake of it, they suck

6——–Apple is unknown to around 50-60% people of India

7——–Cost…Cost…Cost…Apple will never sell any product unless the cost comes down at a country where some people dont even get a monthly salary equivalent to what their products cost(iphone)

Thanks for linking! I don’t see an Aug 22 launch on the cards either – the press usually gets an invite about a week before the demo briefing which itself is embargoed for a few days till the official launch. Not a squeak from Apple as yet

Apple 3GS not hitting the market as yet. Don’t these champs understand that more the delay, less the customers they will get. Anyway I am sure that when the time for the 4G release comes, India will be a priority.

throughly ridiculed by apple inc. and dissapointed with the indian counter parts.. but airtel and vodafone are actually not to be blamed coz they did make a move back in 2008 but the product dint sell according to their expectations (can cite only two main reasons for it, high price quotient and the fact tat it was locked to their network, things dnt wrk this way in india). certainly if apple think’s india is a potential market for their phones they must have had done something about it.. sadly they havnt, which speaks volumes of their so called interest… personally i wudnt mind taking a locked iphone, but the 3gs needs to be launched here first.. waiting eagerly in anticipation of a launch asap..

Somebody please tell Steve Jobs that he should sell the iphone thru the istore without any service provider tie-up. The reason the iphone is “cheap” in the US is that the service provider provides the phone at a less cost and makes up with monthly rental. Here Vodaphone and Airtel have both priced the phone at max rate which therefore does not deserve any loyalty. Frankly I wonder if Apple really cares to have an Indian market.Samsung Omnia 2 will be out soon for windows based phone lovers and the Omnia HD has just been launched with excellent specs that beats the iphone left right and centre.

I enquired at the vodafone store about iphone 3gs, but even they don’t have any idea about the launch date of iphone 3gs in india. Some sales guy at vodafone told me that it will be available in october 2009, i hoped that with the launch of iphone 3gs the prices of iphone 3g would come down, but vodafone people told me that iphone 3g 8gb version is not available and i don’t think that they will refill the stock again.

I have contacted the authorised apple premium resellers in mumbai i.e.Imagine & iStore and have been told that it will be available by the end of the month(maybe)and that they have not received any official info from apple with regard to pricing,locked/unlocked etc.
I just hope that it doesnt have an exorbitant price tag 40,000orabove

Vodafone…..kerala cleared all existing stock of Iphone 3G for the 3GS….launch expected within 10 days

My windows mobile version 6.1 has become more than a year old and not operating satisfactorily. I had decided earler to buy the iphone 3GS, when it comes out, but now it seems that I have to change my options……

Vodafone kerala…..has confirmed that Iphone 3GS wil come out anytime now……. nobody is gettin the launch date because only the apple and vodafone top executives know it and they are not revealing it to anyone……launch is xpected anytime within these 10 days

i’m losing hope on Aug 22 now…:( …seeing only a couple days left till 22 there is no update on airtel/vodafone’s side…it’s a big let down for wannabe 3gs users like me, i don’t want to get it from grey market cuz there will be no warranty & the price is higher than the expected launch price (32k for 16GB)…

All lover of apple i phone 3Gs should boycot the apple product in india as a protest and bring the indian operation to their knees as they are extremely high handed/high ego and no respect for the indian consumers by marketing their products at a very high cost which indian consumers cannot afford.

Called up Airtel in Delhi, yesterday got confirmation of a August launch, however no confirmation on the date as yet. I think it would be unfair to blame apple till August is over as their promise was to launch the phone in August 09.

I am not sure the high pricing is bcoz of the greed of our TSP’s or Apple but I believe the syngeries between and TSP’s and Apple isnt too great and with no one ready to Subsidize, Indian customers bear the high costs.

I imagine calling up the customer care reps to be useless – they will simply tell you whatever you want to hear so that you get off the phone without being too disappointed or annoyed. So you will always hear “in the next 10 days or so” even if the launch is two months away.

The best question to ask the employees at iStore is if they have begun training/briefing for the 3G S features. I should imagine they will begin training their staff at least a week ahead of launch.

This is outright disgusting!
Either the Apple corporation is not made aware of the market and the potential, for which Apple India should be blamed OR it seems they are just too busy keeping up with the demands of the first world nations.
In either case, they are the losers!!
If the pricing and the plan is set right, iphone can rule the market hands down. Wake up Apple, wake up!

Waiting for the 3GS. Sick of waiting and my 2G battery cant take it any longer. Should I give in an buy an N97? Checked out the Samsungs too – dont mind it cause at least the user interface looks fresher than Nokia.

Spoke to Apple India customer care. He said it will be released “shortly.” Not sure what to make of that.

The information is very much true…….its from a reliable person from vodafone……they have just received an email just yesterday from the top executives about the Iphone 3GS….. as lasy year also the training was there……so after that in 7-8 days they launched it….so he was telling this time also its goin to be pretty soon as the training is cureently on…..

last time too the pricing of the phone just came to light before 2 days of its launch… so xpect the same this time….as nobody still knows the exact pricing……

Frustrating. Obviously, some bunch of incompetent people in Apple, Vodaphone or Airtel unable to make their case for selling the fabulous instrument at a reasonable price. They could have made it such a win-win situation for the sellers and buyer in India. Who decides iTunes should be blocked from India even, the free shows/music? I think they got a bunch of paranoids or lunatics running the show under Steve Jobs for India.

We pay full price for the instrument.
We are locked with Airtel or Vodophone.
We have no access to iTunes or Apps.

Spoke to a relatively small Airtel store in Bangalore. They are not sure about the launch date and training hasn’t started. But that might be because this particular one is not a major showroom in the city.

Apple is pricing iPhone quite reasonable only if it does release official unlocked version. We can see other phones from many manufacturers in the same price range almost. But the iphone UI and the OS rocks. When compared to the maintenance what the other phones expect and also considering the app store for iphone, i think iphone still is worth the price. Otherwise, i am using 5800 and it rocks! its the best phone in that price range. i hope iphone 3gs will be launched within end of august sometime with price tag of around 40k for a 32gb version, but purely unlocked.

Just met the Vodafone guy here in Pune. Enquired about the launch of 3GS.
They say they have received an email from Vodafone HO yesterday about 3GS launch.
As per the email the final details is being worked out and the device will be launched anytime within next 2 weeks.
Preferably next weekend. However there are no clear indication about the exact date and pricing.
Hope this is not just another speculation. Can’t wait to get my hands on 3GS.

I even went to an authorised Apple reseller . . .He says that it is gonna be launched in September but not august. . .I also went to a vodafone store in my area in pune and he says that there is no update from Apple abt the launch…Sickening !

hi guys today i went to airtel relationship centre gurgaon and they told me that iphone might be launch on 1st week of sep or end of aug, coz they wana give iphone 3gs with 3g network which is still pending this is the reason lauch is deplayed…….they told me soon airtel will also start 3g network like mtnl and bsnl so that they can offer iphone 3gs with 3G connectivity……..

I dont think so…Its without warranty and without bill…and ur money will be wasted if there is any problem in the handset…why risk that much amount of money for a few thousands ?

Its not eve launched in middle east so india is not alone in their frustations. we really dont know whats going on. some say in the last week of august to the first week of september. so lets see..if they bring it very late then i rather wait for a new iphone launch in june as 3GS will be old news then.

people…just get this thing straight…there is no use if u speak to apple office india….or any istore in india…..they won’t have any information….the thing is vodafone and airtel ppl wil only have the news…bcoz i phone is only available in these both carriers….. so all the top exectives of both the companies r directly in touch with the executives in the US……. and yea…. i can surely say that the launch is indeed very near……

I agree with Mithun, Apple India or IStore might not have complete info as much as Airtel or Vodafone does, Last time when I spoke with a guy at istore he said Airtel has to Provide them the handsets and he mentioned the handsets come to Airtel/Vodafone first and from them they get it to IStore.

I Spoke with a Manager @ Vodafone who deals with Purchase orders for Bundled Handsets in India, as per him there is no Purchase order made for 3gs yet and said it would atleast take one month to launch after placing the purchase order.

I have been waiting for 3gs from more than a Month now, I was so frustrated and was also spending the Money that I saved to buy this phone, so went and bought PS3 80 Gig @ 20K.

I’m still excited to buy 32 Gig one on the day of its Launch and my hopes are on 1st week of September, also at the same time tired of hearing rumours, so would only want to wait for an official announcement.

YEah..and I am also told that as they will launch the 3Gs for nea 36k the price of the 3G will be reduced to 24k and 29k respectively..so for those of you who want to shell out less money but want the luxury of th Iphone u may go for the older model..But i would still advise u to buy the newest available model even if you hav to pay 10k extra as the phone will last u for atleast a year and so and by then the 3G technology will also be launched in India by private operators..Looking by the information provided.. 6th September looks like a likely date for the launch…HOPE THE INFORMATION IS ACCURATE AND WE GET OUR DREAM PHONE VERY SOOON!!

Brazil, Turkey, Thailand, Egypt are getting iPhone 3GS on 28 August, so most probably we’ll be getting on 28′August aswell.

well now while discussing the probable datefor the launch of this most awaited phone in india all of have forgotten something..
something very important.. well apple during their covention when they first revealed the iphone 3gs showed probable launch dates for a few countries and months for most of them.. for india the launch month was august.. well had it launced even on 31st without ne prior notice abt the exact date it would have had been ok.. but apparently it hasnt launched the fone in august and hence it owes to the people from these countries an apology or atleast a notification and an explaination.. i mean most of us here knw tat its coz of the worldwide shortage but yet the company must come out with some announcement now.. what i am talking about are general bussiness ethics which a company like apple must take gaurd of..

Just yesterday I called up the Vodafone customer service and they told me that apple telephone products will be made available only after the month of December!!!

ppl i tlkd 2 some Apple guy ystrday … he told me dat it is surely in october 1st wek nd it can not b launchd b4 dat nyhow …. its been a very long time now and still no update as of now..
friends i would sugggest you one thing that u can purchase an iphone from hongkong reason is that apple is officaly selling unlocked version of iphone in hongkong and its ready to use handset just enter any sim card connect it to itunes and your phone will be officialy activated by apple server.. so jailbreak no hacking nothing like that….

if any of ur frds or relatives is in hong kong then u can arrange an unlocked version at cheap price rather than buying jailbroken handset.
