iPhone 3GS India Launch Delayed not coming on August 9th

on August 5, 2009 – 8:57 pm683 Comments

Sorry iPhone fans. Looks like iPhone 3GS will not be coming to India on Aug 9th. I visited a iStore in the city and from what they told me August 9th seems impossible and 3rd week of August looks more probable .

iphone 3gs india

Looks like there has been some confusion amongst blogs and the media about the August 9th launch date.In the Apple Keynote way back in June, this slide shown below says iPhone 3GS coming to india in Aug ‘09 which means Aug 2009 and not August 9th. Apple India were not reachable for an explanation !

In the meanwhile chk out our Apple iPhone 3GS Review – First on FoneArena

Its just insane when almost the rest of the world has got the iPhone 3GS and India being the 2nd largest market in the world for mobile handsets is still waiting !

it is bro … i know a sr executive in vodafone … its coming out on the 9th they wont advertise much as the sales have been really bad it will launch like any other phone … plus the apple stores in India don’t really sell the iphone so i doubt they very well informed .

thats sad..hope they will review the prices this time…do u have any idea on pricing…

    @Shivam

Called up a sales guy in Vodafone Store . He says 2nd week of Aug it might come.

  • http://www.gadgetworld4u.com Sachu

    yeah..shivam is right…

  • Nikhil joshi

if they dont advertise its fine but atleast a small banner or some info on the website . customers should atleast be aware thats the product is gonna launch. if customers are not aware then how the sales will be good. why there is so much secreacy

  • abhishek goswami

its sad that companies like Apple fail to understand the potential of Indian market.and plus i think Steve Jobs has had a tummy upset probably having Chicken Curry for dinner. Its insane and sad.is nokia feeling happy?

  • a2k24

    no less than 45K….
    sooo not worth it.
    booo apple.

  • Shivam

@ Nikhil yea i guess you got a point but then again i don’t remember the last time vodafone marketed a blackberry before its launch or any other phone it came out with (like the magic box) … so i guess if we think of it as just another phone i guess it makes sense doesn’t it ??

  • Tenzing

On ebay india i phone 3gs is for 50000.

  • Shivam

    alright important news :

    1. The insider i was talking to is no longer certain about the launch date.

    2. I checked some things out and all releases have been on Fridays,
    i.e 19th June,26th June and 10 July.

    3. All countries in the group release it on the same date.

Thailand(Biggest iphone market in the region) has announced a launch on the 24th !

Thus im sorry to say that logic now points towards a late august release.

Still got my fingers crossed for a release tomorrow as i cant wait to get the 3GS and im not gonna settle for the 3G

  • Shivam

I guess i figured out where the rumour ahs been triggered from

    http://palmaddict.typepad.com/palmaddicts/2009/06/iphone-3g-s-dates-that-matter-most.html

If you look at the pictures beside the launch date you will notice that it says june 26,june 19 for the first to batches of release while it says july ’09 and aug ’09. this ” ’09 ” means 2009 and not the 9th !

    http://www.truemove.com/iphone/eng/price_plan.htm

well at least one thing is for sure … the iphone 3GS price should stay around the 31 , i.e the present iphone 3G prices , while the iphone 3G prices shall come down a little to clear the remaining stock

here’s why iphone will beat the dust before the n97..

    Voice Dialing
iPhone: Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth $600 phone and there is no voice dialing in me. Yes you heard me right.

Nokia N97: Huh. I don’t care about such silly things. It is there in me as if I I never lost it.

    2. One-push speed dialing
iPhone: There is no equivalent of the push-and-hold speed dialing in me that exist on most other phones. Instead, I have a Favorites list gives you a quick(ish) access to the most frequently dialed numbers.

Nokia N97: What were you doing while getting manufactured? Couldn’t you scream louder? I have that facility.

    3. Bluetooth DUN Profile
iPhone: Unlike nearly every other Bluetooth enabled cell phone, I will not share internet connection with other devices (e.g. a laptop). In fact, out of roughly 25 common Bluetooth profiles for cell phones, I only support two. And believe me its not a hardware fault.

Nokia N97: Are you serious! Are you really serious! Lol. This is 21st century. Please wake up.

    4. Saving Images/Files
iPhone: We have a gallery here of iPhone wallpapers. I browse to it on the iPhone. I find my image I want. And then I wait, I can’t download it? I can’t choose to set it as wallpaper? I have to go to my Mac, browse to the URL again, download the photo, purchase and install iLife, import the photo into iPhoto, set it to sync with the iPhone, open up iTunes, hit sync, then browse to it on my iPhone and set as wallpaper. Its not that tough you know.

Nokia N97: Haha. True. You can do it normally from my phone. Get a life you iPhone. I mean these things are so common that I don’t even care to look for it. It is there.

    5. Flash
iPhone: Seriously. There was no flash support in me until recently. But anyway, even when using YouTube, I cant save the clip on the phone. Not much of a trouble no?

Nokia N97: I had flash support right from the time when N was spelt. I have it now too.

    6. Camera Options
iPhone: I had asked them, where is my zoom. I have a 2MP camera. But that is not sufficient my users say. But no zoom, even I protest.

Nokia N97: Lol. I don’t complain. I have a 5MP camera with Zeiss lens and LED flash and zoom. Anyway, what about your Video support (winks)

    7. Video Options
iPhone: I can not shoot a video. But I can play a video.

Nokia N97: Lol. I can shoot at a DVD quality movie recording. And 16:9 ratio. Okay. I will not bug you any more. I know you are way behind.

    8. Copy/Paste Option
iPhone: I can’t give the copy paste facility to people. I would have loved so many things to be included, Alas.

Nokia N97: Don’t talk to me about such petty issues. You don’t even have message forwarding options. I wonder what actually do you have!

    9. Touchscreen and Keypad
iPhone: I have a touch screen that is superior to you in every respect.

Nokia N97: That is because people haven’t used me yet. The most physically immediate stand-out feature of me is the kick-out full QWERTY keyboard, hidden behind a 3.5-inch widescreen 16:9 touch display that tilts smartly above the keys. Both control methods neatly coexist and are tailored to ensure every experience. And don’t tell me now that I am bragging.

    10. SMS
iPhone: I accept defeat here. I can’t forward the SMS. I can’t send phone numbers via SMS text message. I can not save VCard and contacts to my phone contacts. I can’t click on MMS notification to go to Safari to view.

Nokia N97: I always knew I am intimidating. But I pity your inabilities now. These are basic features. You can get them even in my mediocre brothers.

    11. Bluetooth Stereo Headsets
iPhone: I am more of an essential kind. Bluetooth stereo headsets work perfectly well when you are on a call. But due to a redundant bluetooth stack, you can not stream your music. I suppose you are not a music lover *smug look*.

Nokia N97: I know I know. When you have nothing to gain from, you pretend as if there is nothing to lose. Hah!

    12. Capacity
iPhone: Hey I have a 8 GB/ 16 GB capacity. Do you know that? Can you beat me on that?

Nokia N97: No I can not. Because you win here with your ignorance. I have a built-in 32GB memory and so effectively you can plug in another 32 GB of MicroSDHC and make it 64 GB. More than what a laptop can hold you know. Still in a mood to fight?

    13. Geo Location
iPhone: I have maps with GPS and I have plenty of other apps that can help anyone to find anything. Can you compete?

Nokia N97: Nopes. I don’t like intruders. I am location-savvy, automatically sensing where it is at any given time via A-GPS. The benefit being that you’ll be able to tap into local services with ease and share your social location with friends minus any extra fiddling or fuss.

  • Ashish

Well tenzing the only reason y ppl are selling the iphone at a whooping 50000 on ebay is coz its yet not officially launched in india.. i am hoping for those prices to come down as well in the near future.. and as far as the secrecy abt the iphone is concerned i just knw 1 thing its killing me… n only if airtel or vodafone would come out with a date and a number i am sure many customers are gng to be happy… keeping my fingers crossed as i really intend to get my hands on this baby… :)

  • Venky

Actually, as I recall, the slide was meant to mean August ’09, as in August 2009. Don’t think Apple committed to August 9th as the launch day — just August 2009 as the launch month.

  • Nikhil

Hey, i too have read over and over again Aug 9th. And multiple sites show the complete launch schedule of the iPhone 3GS. First off, Shivam is right, seems like the iPhone launches are all on fridays July 11 -08, aug 22- 08, June 19 -09, July 10- 09 and hopefully aug 7- 09 (fingers crossed).

But what i dont understand is, if 24th is what thailand is saying, which is a monday, its not possible.

Anyway, i am scanning site after site, google search after google search ad nauseam hoping to find some news on the launch date. I certainly hope it is tomorrow. I cant believe people could be blinded enough to confuse AUG ’09 for AUG 9th. Either that or its a CRUEL JOKE :(

Fingers crossed everyone (no emoticon for that )

  • Amit

well well Apple + Vodafone have completely lost the war way before they actually began they dont have any idea about the launch date i dont know wat strategy they hv planned but this is utterly rubbish as compared to rest of world india is still waitin for 3gs as a 3rd world country …….

  • Shivam

I dont get the sadistic please apple derives out of doing this, how tough is it for them to come clean about the launch dates, cause it isnt possible for them to have not finalized it even if it is at august end.

I spoke to a vodafone store owner he believe that the buzz is next Friday but still uncertain about it.

Anyways lets hope it is on friday or on sunday, or at least next week or …….

god knows to be honest .

  • Jagan

Let’s wait and watch. I think the success will depend on the price, if it is anything over 35K for the 16Gb version, its not going to do much better than the 3G. IMO, it may make sense to wait for a couple of months and see how the new ipod touch compares. If it has the same CPU and memory as the iphone 3GS, it may be a much better bet.

  • rAg

    @sagar

iPhone: more than 40 million phones have been sold till date, with a record breaking 1 million in 3 days itself for 3gs model which proves what an i am :P smartphone share is highest for iphone. Smartphone profit for the whole mobile industry has been pushed up compared to last financial year just because of iphone sales.. if u want accurate info and data feel free to ask and i will provide u with links..

n97: bithc* slapped by iphone :P cant say a word now… coz the sales figures are terribly dumb to een compare with an iphone LOL LOL LOL LOL

  • Nikhil joshi

i hope the the launch happens on 9th . i really wont be able to wait till 22nd august nor will i settle for grey market.. i will be very disappointed if the launch is delayed

@Shivam as far as blackberry goes vodafone , airtel knows this handsets are for business class ppl nor normal indian consumer. as far as iphone goes they wil advertise if the launch is gonna happen on 9th.. keep your fingers crossed

  • Nit

Just spoke to a shop-owner in Irla, Mumbai (famous gray-market for mobile phones)..He said with confidence that iPhone 3GS will be available tomorrow (August 7th)..
He quoted the price of the old iPhone (8GB) at Rs. 28,500.
I wonder if this is the official launch or not but my fingers are crossed for a tomorrow launch.

  • Shivam

@ NIT: i PRAY YOUR RIGHT BRO !

  • Shivam

    @ Nit

but hold on … did he say he’ll have it tomorrow or it will launch tomorrow officially ??

    :S

  • Nikhil joshi

    @Nit Imposible

  • RiTz

I talked to Head of sales Representative of vodaphone in New Delhi and he said price for 3gs 32 gb in india is between 38 k to 40k
and 16 gb is between 34k to 36 k rupees and is going to launch in comming 2 weeks..

Last Time they had Given me date of 6th aug …I hope this time they were right…

I am Despirate to buy it….

What ever comaparison Or say chat between iPhone and N97 Sagar showed there are somthing 2 be corected…

iPhone: Though I am 3.2 mp my picture quality is far far better and is exactly 3.2 no bodies wana make potrait to hang on wall ….and I 3gs do video recording…and has much grace…..

N97: Hmmmm though i had flash 5 mp camera and zoom in night picture quality is not good…People didnt liked me i am not able to sell out…OWAA OWaaa i look cheap…

  • Nikhil joshi

ppl i dont see iphone 3gs launch on 9th august. my gut feeling says the date will be the same as last year august 21 and we will have some official info about it a week before. it is highly unlikely the product will launch on 9th. this is not blackberry they have to advertise the launch or the product will bomb.

  • Nikhil

Its 8:45 am, and no site changes on Vodafone or Airtel or Apple India. I am going crazy here, so i am going to stop going site to site, hour after hour. I did one last search, and found that thailand is allowing pre-orders till AUG 24th. and people can pickup their iPhone 3GS’ on AUG 28th ( a friday)

    here is the link: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/topstory/30108974/iPhone-3GS-expected-to-be-hot-item

I am depressed now. I hope we aren’t going to get it that late! The wait is killing me!

  • Shivam

well it int coming out today … and 9th isnt likely so yea when is the next possible date ??

    my guess is 14th-16th

well atleast thats what the grey market dealers are expecting.

  • joe

    Is a $99 iPhone 8gb 3GS coming soon?

    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-10303714-233.html

check out that link! Guess i have to wait for some more time to buy a iphone :(

  • joe

BTW please do not compare a crappy nokia phone with a iphone(the uber-coolest phone in the world) … its a really stupid thing to do!

  • Harneet

Sagar, hows about you start comparing the specs of a newly launched phone to those ofa NEWLY LAUNCHED PHONE? You’re comparing it to a one and a half year old product. Complex?

here’s why iphone will beat the dust before the n97.. (pfft…)

    Voice Dialing
iPhone: Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth $600 phone and there is no voice dialing in me. Yes you heard me right.
Nokia N97: Huh. I don’t care about such silly things. It is there in me as if I I never lost it.

It HAS voice dial now. Look it up before you post, retard.

How about we get push and dial for a TOUCH SCREEN PHONE? Are you friggin kiddin me? You’re just wanting to stress upon how better haptics feedback is to you. It’s a multi touch screen, N97 can’t stand up to v***a on that screen.

It HAS tethering. And by far the simplest of them all. For a nokia, you’ve to get the damn pcsuite which effs up the computer’s resources, runs f’d up processes in the background and kills the ‘Windoze’. AN iPhone just needs itunes installed, which does NOT f up a mac (pre-installed on EVERY mac which is imho the best thing to happen to hardware) and runs a measly 2M ituneshelper process on startup in Windoze.

Have you ever actually used an iPhone? You can save WHATEVER image you want off the web, just keep your finger pressed and it prompts you to do so. And get your facts right before you flame. You DO NOT have to go to your Mac, you could do it on Windoze. iLife has iPhoto which syncs to iTunes for photo libraries which comes FREE with a mac and for Windoze there is an option to Sync it from a specified folder WITHOUT the use of iPhoto. You could throw iPhoto in the trash and work with it still. Oh yeah you could set wallpapers from images you save right from within the damn phone.

    5. Flash
iPhone: Seriously. There was no flash support in me until recently. But anyway, even when using YouTube, I cant save the clip on the phone. Not much of a trouble no?
Nokia N97: I had flash support right from the time when N was spelt. I have it now too.

No, there wasn’t technology like cell phones when N was spelt. Yeah cause youtube doesn’t WANT you to save clips. Ever visited youtube? Do they offer you to save clips? no? Well there’s your dumarse brain for ya :)

    6. Camera Options
iPhone: I had asked them, where is my zoom. I have a 2MP camera. But that is not sufficient my users say. But no zoom, even I protest.
Nokia N97: Lol. I don’t complain. I have a 5MP camera with Zeiss lens and LED flash and zoom. Anyway, what about your Video support (winks)

NO zoom, takes better pics than your camera, even at night. Period. Comprende?

    7. Video Options
iPhone: I can not shoot a video. But I can play a video.
Nokia N97: Lol. I can shoot at a DVD quality movie recording. And 16:9 ratio. Okay. I will not bug you any more. I know you are way behind.

It can shoot video, edit video, upload video to youtube in ten seconds. Boo yah. DVD quality ya freak.

    8. Copy/Paste Option
iPhone: I can’t give the copy paste facility to people. I would have loved so many things to be included, Alas.
Nokia N97: Don’t talk to me about such petty issues. You don’t even have message forwarding options. I wonder what actually do you have!

It has copy-paste. Across all iphones now, btw. Not just the 3GS. It has message forwarding. God damn it don’t you read the bloody news?

The tilt broke the third day I got it. Hell yeah I have a N97 and an iPhone. Yeah you’re bragging cause the blablabla you just typed in doesn’t stand a candle to the iPhone’s NON physical keyboard. We saved space. Nokia wanted a full blown computer inside a phone and so did Apple. Turns out Nokia wanted it to look like a notebook too!

    10. SMS
iPhone: I accept defeat here.

You CAN forward Sms’s. You CAN send MMS’s. You CAN click on MMS notifications, og yeah heard about PUSH? Have that?

Hah!

Oh you can stream music now. Yes you can, yesssshhh you cannnn :)

    12. Capacity
iPhone: Hey I have a 8 GB/ 16 GB capacity.

32 gigs tops, but wtf are you on about laptops with 64gigs?:/ Are you comparing SSD’s from two years ago or Spin downs from eight years ago? Check online to find a SINGLE laptop with less than an 80 gig drive. You’re right, there isn’t any. Still in a mood to get high?

    13. Geo Location
iPhone: I have maps with GPS and I have plenty of other apps that can help anyone to find anything. Can you compete?
    Nokia N97: No.

    Nokia can’t compete.

  • Karl

Does anybody know if either Airtel or Vodafone will be selling the 3GS unlocked? I have also been waiting patiently to buy the phone, but with each delay I just get annoyed and feel like picking one up in the grey market.

If the two launch partners will offer it unlocked officially then I will wait to get it from them.

  • rAg

here is the so called DVD quality video on n97
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0qTtmSKvNU

and here is the VGA quality video from iphone 3gs
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y7UhvF-qnY

iphone could handle a similar quality video with just a VGA capable video recording cam.. the so called n97 dvd quality sucks big time :P

  • Nikhil joshi

guys whatever u do dont buy from grey market.. reasons

    1. no warranty
    2. to gprs plan like airtel offers 500 mb a month for 12 months
    3. very expensive in grey maeket and those idiots mess with the phone before selling it.
    5. official phones gets instantly detected by itunes after firmware restore. ( dont buy this beauty from grey market )

Guys wait till 9th , if the iphone isnt gonna launch on that day then will have to wait for a long time may be end of this month

  • Bhavik

    Guys,

Why are we comparing phones here in comments? Lets just discuss the launch dates and not compare the phones.

So sad its not lauching on 9th :( . I have been waiting for it since so long :(

  • Nikhil joshi

jealous ppl out there speak bad about the iphone so they can satisfy their soul… guys iphone is the best thing out there n97 sucks big time .. and i just cant wait for the launch and i hope it happens on sunday 9th

  • Vishu

i have a feeling it’ll not be launched on 9th cuz that 09′ in apple’s slideshow meant the year 09′ not the date,…instead late this month around maybe 20-21st it’ll be launched :( ….i’ve waited so long for it but still got to wait more…:(

  • Karl

All I need to know is whether or not the official launch partners will be selling unlocked phones. I am with Loop, so it makes no difference to me whether it’s a grey market piece if the offical phones are going to be locked to Vodafone or Airtel.

  • Nit

The guy i spoke to yesterday in Irla market(Mobile point, next to Alfa) says that the 3GS has been launched in the grey market. He quoted me the price of the 16GB model to be at Rs. 38000.

  • Nit

He said that it is available as of now with him. So those of you who can settle for a grey market highly over-priced iPhone 3GS rush to Irla right now.

  • Shivam

I’m sorry to break it guys but very logically i doubt it will launch on sunday , called apple india they didnt have any info now if it comes out on sunday there HAS to be some info about it, there is NO chance they will roll it out one fine day, maybe they wont advertise too much but atleast they will accept it being launched when you call them up right ??

I HOPE I’M WRONG cause i’m using a blackberry and i HATE IT and i want a 3GS no matter what price it comes at

AND YEA DO NOT BUY THE IPHONE FRM THE GREY MARKET
i bought the 2G at a premium and then when the phone stopped working in 3 months (batter wud last for an hr) i was left high and dry so yea DO NOT BUY FROM THE GREY MARKET take my word for that.

And for those NOKIA LOVERS what are you doing looking through this blog ?? cause u totally hate the iphone then why are yu trying to find out when it launches ?? and if your aim is to go to every apple blog and try win over iphone loyalists by the “nokia is so great” crap GET A LIFE !!

  • sean

Harneet you really kicked his a**….

  • Amit

First of all apple never said its goin to be launched on 9th they said aug “09″ i got the info from apple itself they surely will launch the phone in nxt 2 weeks and in irla those guys are offering 3gs w/o bill for 40000 for 16gb unlocked and 48000 for 32gb unlocked but w/o warranty not worth buying

  • Nikhil

@shivam there are many nokia guys jealous of iphone .. trust me once if those idiots used iphone they will never buy a nokia.. i have forgotten nokia since i owned the 2nd gen iphone … and ya i hope mircle happens on sunday

  • joe

i called Apple India (1800 425 4646) today, they said that it take a couple of months for the iphone 3gs to come here. I hope thats not true! :(

  • shailendra

If Bought in US ; For 1 yr it will cost:-
    1. Iphone 3GS =$199 (Rs. 9,950)
    2. contract =$780 (Rs. 39,000 )for 12 months …based on $65 (Rs. 3250)p/m
    3. internet subscription =$360 (Rs. 18,000)……based on $30 p/m (Rs.1,500)
    4. contract breaking fee = $175.00 (Rs. 8,750)
    ———————————————————-
    ************************************************************
    *Grand Total :———=$199+$780+$360 = $1,339 (Rs 66,950 )*
    *************************************************************

    if you plan to break the contrack add $175 = $1,339 + $175= $1514 (Rs. 75,700 )

    considering ..US $1= Rs50 INR

Do you still plan to get it from US guys..It is smart to buy from India for Rs 32,000 + Rs 1,000 (unlocking)to user with any service provider …I mean literally ANY. period.

if you get it from countries where it is officially unlocked ..think twice thy are smarter than us, they are APPLE..their is geographical limitations.

What do you think about this ????
    any remarks???

  • Tenzing

What about officially unlocked i phones from apples . how much do they cost ? wats the problem in using them ?

Official Word From TIM COOK Regarding Iphone

    “”"
“We are currently unable to make enough iPhone 3GSs to meet the robust demand and we’re working to address this,” he said. “”"

guys i feel we need to wait for a month or two to get hands on iphone..

  • Karl

Looks like it’s time to hit the grey market. I’m sick of waiting.

  • N

    Guys,
I got the iPhone 3GS 32gb last week on a trip to the us. The simplest way is to buy a no contract iPhone from AT&T for 599/699
what i did was slightly more complex. I got it with the contrsct and usedit for 3 weeks. The split up is 299+tax + 127(first month bill) + 175 (ETF) = ~620 which is less than the no contract iPhone. My suggestion would be to get it from the us provided the os 3.1 hasn’t been rolled out to the new phones yet.
    Cheers

  • Karl

Is the “no contract” phone effectively factory unlocked?

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish

    N ,

You forgot the tax and 3.5% Credit card fee .

Considering a 8.5% tax is average in usa . You’ll end up paying around

599+51+around 1k as credit card fee

    comes to Rs.32102 approx

And Karl , Yes it’s not factory unlocked. No contact phone is still locked to AT&T

You can easily unlock it though. But you don’t get any warranty or support.

It should be sane to buy legally. But how long will users wait ? Apple – Are you listening ?

  • Apfreak

Fancy not understanding the Indian market in today’s context. The failure to launch 3GS in India fast, surely can be considered to be failed Apple app.

  • Nikhil joshi

i wont buy from US for one reason gprs data plan 500mb free for 12 months. we save around 5 to 7000 bucks here… and guys grey market is out of question..

  • gaxy

Hi.. I have a query .. If i buy an IPhone 3gs from India say in August from Airtel and if I move to the US will it work perfectly fine in the US ? Of course I am assuming that I need to get it unlocked but is unlocking an officially supported process by APPLE ? Is unlocking done by the Telco vendor or by APPLE firmware updates ?

  • Yogesh

Is it worth to buy iphone 3gs from ebay hongkong?
Coz 16gb iphone 3gs officialy unlocked avail at
Rs.37,000 inclunding all taxes nd shiping cost… It should work in india?
    Guys wat u say?
I’m dying to get my hand on this lovely masterpiece iphone 3gs… Hard to wait.. Feels sad

  • Nikhil joshi

same here we are eagerly waiting for iphone 3gs but trust me the launch wont happen in august according to many news channel. there is global shortage of the phone and it will take a month or two before it makes it to indian market.i have given up hope that i will see the phone in india any time soon and i am not interested in grey market or getting it from US.

  • Karl

Well, I got fed up of waiting so I just went and picked up a nice new 32GB black 3GS! I’ve synced it with Outlook so all my Contacts, appointments, notes etc are on the phone now. Called Loop to ask what data plans they offer. Was told that they only have GPRS with a speed of 20 – 50kbps. Wow! How hi tech! So I’m waiting for the mobile number portability next month and then it’s bye bye Loop! Good riddance!

All the best guys, this is a neat device! =)

  • Amit

hi guys Great news today apple change strategies for iphone 3gs in india according to official report airtel will be the apple channel sales partner who will provide official unlocked iphone 3gs and vodafone will not be related to iphones in india, this is to crack 400million users in india instead of only 150 million those from vodafone and airtel combined but sad news is that this will delay the most awaited phone by sometime….

  • Nikhil joshi

@Karl from where u got the handset and how much it cost you

  • Nikhil

@Amit: where did you read that? Mind passing on the link or something?

    @karl: Congrats mate.

  • Ashish

    @amit

where did u get to knw abt this news?? and can u gv us a rough idea abt by when will the iphone be launched oficially.. cud u gv us a date.. it wud be gr8 if u cud share the source of the above said imformation.. thanx..

    cheers..

  • Karl

Picked it up at Heera Panna for 47k. Not cheap, but if you consider that it is around 39k in Hong Kong for a 32GB one, it is not that bad considering it is unlocked, jailbroken and available today.

My biggest issue was that my previous phone was giving a lot of trouble so I really needed a new phone urgently and didn’t want to buy some rubbish phone just to bide my time waiting for the eventual official launch of the 3GS here.

  • Nikhil joshi

@karl unlocking and jailbreaking is not a big deal i can do that in 5 minutes. thing is free gprs for year which official carrier provide and warranty and u get sealed handset. i will pay 50k for 32gb but for official ones

@ amit i dont think u got the news from a reliable source

  • Yogesh

@karl did u got officialy unlocked iphone?
Can u tell me at what price heera panna selling iphone 3gs 16gb ?

  • Karl

@Nikhil: No doubt I would prefer a factory unlocked piece, but given my limitations, I’m happy with my phone. Also I am with Loop, so it doesn’t matter to me if Airtel offers free GPRS for a year.

@Yogesh: No my phone is software unlocked and jailbroken. The 16GB 3GS is selling for a more reasonable 38.5k

  • rAg

    @yogesh

customs will rip u off man.. they are charging a whooping 14.9% on the value of the product + shipment

i got an iphone 3gs from US for 19k and they charged me 4.4k as customs duty… so never ever go for a direct import of iphone.. if someone is coming from there then ask them to get it but never get it couriered..

and the bloody customs people take ages to clear it.. they are so damn lazy to work!! my iphone took 12 days to clear the customs alone!!!

anyways i have it with me now.. my second 3gs :D (i sold off my first 3gs 3 weeks back :P )

    @all

i talked with the store manager at istore hyderabad, he said that the launch has been postponed to september due to some problem.. i donno how legit this info is tho…

2 weeks back he said that the phone will be launched on 9th august.. but now he says that the stock itself hasnt arrived in india yet and the launch has been postponed to september 2nd week or so..

  • Nikhil joshi

i will wait for official launch

  • Shivam

@ Karl : So how is the 3G S ?? worth waiting ? or should i just go pick up the 3G today ??

please can someone confirm,,need that phone badly

  • Harsha

Just got an Update from IStore, they are expecting the Iphone 3gs Launch on August 21, they confirmed its Airtel/Vodafone Network Locked and Airtel/Vodafone has to take a final go on the Launch date. I have been waiting for this from a long time, cant wait any more, would definately buy the 32gig one on the same day :-)

  • Amit

congrats karl but the only thing is it’s worth waitin for warranty and ofcourse the sealed pack fone i’ll wait for official launch…

  • Enn

    People, i have a query !

I want to buy the iPhone 3G (8GB) which is available at around 29K in the grey market (It is currently out of stock in the non-grey market).

1.)Should i wait for the 3GS launch for the prices to go down or should i buy now ?

2.)How significant will the price drop be ?

3.)Will the iPhone 3G be made available in the non-grey market once the 3GS is launched ?

    Thank you!

  • rAg

    @Shivam

3GS is definitely worth the wait dude.. as soon as u switch it on and start operating it you will notice the smooth functioning of the phone.. apps are much faster..

in 3g i always had a problem with keyboard in apps like cydia when i use search option.. after typing an alphabet it used to freeze for a fine moment.. but in 3gs its damn smooth.. never faced such problem..

other features are also cool.. and trust me.. video recording is awesome.. the clarity is good..

check this sample video i took at a hospital reception yesterday.. this is a compressed format of the actual video which is still looking good..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPNUbmDSilg

  • Nikhil Joshi

last year iphone 3g launched on august 22. so i expect the same this year. i was the first one to purchase iphone 3g from airtel gallery at vile parle

@ shivam.. trust me wait for 3gs . i sold my 3g and got hand on even 3gs which my friend got from grey market.. the 3gs wil blow 3g completly. worth the wait and if u buy ,, buy official ones.. i enjoyed free gprs from airtel for 1 year on my iphone 3g. and i am sure they will give the same package while buying 3gs, if u calculate airtel charges 599 for 500 mb a month and if u calculate that with 12 months its 6000 rs.. so buy official ones u get gprs connection worth 6000 rs and 1 year warranty and might be the phones will comes with factory unlock,,, just hoping i soon come to know the exact date.. ones we know the date waiting becomes easier.

  • Yogesh

@rag do u hv any iphone 3gs for sale
    thanx 4 info

  • http://www.proTLH.com aron

    Sagar

Yeah, you sagar guy seems to be like ripwan winkle or whatever. were u stuck somewhere for 2 years..

buddy iphone can do a lot more than wat u said it cant.
while can your N97 even properly scroll through contacts, let alone webpages.

Saagar seems to have only seen iPhone 1.0 with iphone 1.1 firmware.

Apple is the only company which releases firmware updates that actually have noticable improvements. from saving images to viewing word docs, search to copypaste everything is improved with each update.

If it were nokia, they would release new features in OS only through newer models forcing exsisting users to upgrade to new devices and thus ensure some sales

And I am saying without any partiallity, iPhone copy pastes webpages exactly like it looks on to your email or any app for that matter. it surely does it better than my vista pc.

and the ease at which, it does that gives me a wow feeling everytime

  • RiTz

Well its better to buy after original launch and i dont know where u guys come to know its not launching in august it is launching in coming 2 weeks i am damm sure abt it…lol…

    Think ++++ not —

  • Karl

@ Shivam: No, I would recommend you wait for the 3GS, it is much smoother than the 3G.

  • Adi

@rAg dude what do you mean by import ? did you get someone in US to courier it to you ?

  • rAg

    @Yogesh

i m not plannin to sell it this time dude.. i cant wait for the official launch anymore.. i was having a plan to sell this iphone 3GS i have right now but changed my mind now :D

  • rAg

    @Adi

yes dude.. my fren who is using a 3G iphone since 3 months made an early upgrade to 3GS.. so he got the 3GS 16gb at 450$ including tax and activation fee.. he took it and sent it to me using USPS service which is the worst service u can ever opt for :P

it took 20 damn days to get delivered here in hyderabad.. added to that 4.5k for customs duty.. it cost me around 29k after all the charges.. anyways its worth every penny i spent on it tho :) so no regrets..

Okay guys, let’s just get all the facts we know together.

First of all, you have to be really retarded to believe that Aug ’09 was August 9th and not August 2009. Come on guys….?

    Now,

Release Date : 21st August or 28th August (Both are fridays)

    Price : 16GB – 32K to 36K, 32GB – 38K to 42K.

The Iphone 3G should drop just a few K’s and that’s it. To anyone aiming out for a 3G, i say wait, collect some money, and get the 3GS.

If you do really have money to throw and blow, you can go for a grey market phone, which should be some 10K more, but be advised, Grey market phones are supposed tampered with and played around with. Basically, don’t expect quality from them. :)

If you do stick to a Vodafone/Airtel subscription, you’re gonna get a good 500mb per month for 12 months. So yay. :D

Your best bet? Wait till the launch date.

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish

    Spoke to Vodafone India.

They tell me that its coming in max 2 months. Wont commit on any specific date !

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish

Does anyone of you own both a 3G and 3Gs ? Would be great if you could do a test of some 3D Game on both and post the results and even a video if possible :D

  • RiTz

First of all, you have to be really retarded to believe that India The 2nd largest market is not in target of Apple Peoples…..

    Comon …why u are treating us as a villagers………….???????

Every one had their iphone 3gs in hand and will be waiting for update in nxt two months….and we are waiting 4 3gs …..what the hell is that????????

    Release Date : Septmber -octoober

    Its like old US policy

Use new things, arms and when updated sell to India old one…

(Dam bhi nikal gaya bik bhi gaya jitne mae liya tha usse jyada mae becha..aur use bhi khoob kiya)

Its really very dissapointment that 3gs will launch in sept-oct

call 1800 425 4646 this is apple sales pepole number….

    Hi Friends

I have been a Vodafone user for last few years [Hutch was nice to me].

I have been trying to buy an iPhone [3G] since 25th Mar 09. Truth is that Vodafone is not selling iPhone anymore in India – they are just giving excuses for iPhone unavailability. Their standard reply is – “Sir, we are out of stock and cannot commit you.”

And for last couple of weeks I have been inquiring about 3Gs and they are not helping [so much for happy to help punch line]. I will be surprised if they come out with iPhone in their stores. Their initial reply was – that they don’t have any information on 3Gs launch – now their response – please check within few days of launch [9th Aug] and the iPhone will be available. [and it is not yet available - funny part is that they seem to be acting genuinely uninterested/unaware about iPhone 3Gs launch by Vodafone] And they don’t forget to push their stupid Storm whenever you call them.

It seems same is the story with Airtel – effectively no way to buy an iPhone.

Guys any info or help? I want to buy an iPhone 3Gs in India.

  • rAg

    @varun

i have both and also a 2g iphone but i dont have a video cam :P

anyways u can find videos on youtube for comparison of 3g and 3gs for app launch speeds..

  • rAg

    @RiTz

dude it isnt about being the largest mobile phone market or not..

iphone was launched in 6 countries on the first phase and it sold 1 million in just 3 days.. thats shows the demand in other countries..

india is a potential market for mobile phones but not that potential a market for iphone.. airtel and vodafone were desperate to clear the stocks.. lots of people go for local market stuff instead of iphone from airtel or vodafone..

how many people do u really find spending 30k odd for a phone? its only apple fanatics like us.. and thats very limited..

  • rAg

    @varun

what i heard is that voda and airtel requested apple to delay the launch in india till 3.1 is released… they dont want to lose their customers it seems.. on 3.0 u can unlock and shift networks and they want to avoid this.. so made a request to apple that they need iphone stock on 3.1..

the good part is apple rejected this request it seems.. they finally accepted a part stock on 3.0 and part stock on 3.1 donno why..

this is what i heard.. donno how legit this info is..

  • Bhavik

    @ Nikhil joshi:

I had mailed vodafone 10 days ago and got the same reply. They keep saying that its not launched as if we are not aware of it :P . I had asked just for the MONTH or a TIMELINE in which it will be lauched and sadly the same reply.

They are seriously not interested in “helping” their customers.

  • Nikhil joshi

i can bet due to their lack of information to customers iphone 3gs will too fail i india …. guys be ware of swine flu, its really getting on my nerves..

  • Bhavik

Reply from Airtel Customer Care manager on email:

“We would like to confirm that currently Airtel dint launch iPhone 3GS service and also note that currently we dont have any “idea” to launch iphone 3GS service.”

  • Nikhil joshi

iphone 3gs service ??? i thought it was a phone…… just ask about iphone to vodafone and airtel helplines… they are dumbass

  • Nidz

Called up airtel last night they said it might get launched this weekend that is 15th 16th or the 17th but they don’t have any info besides this. They haven’t commited to these dates. I think it will be launched on the 22nd . Fingers crossed hope for the best.

I want to get a 32 gb white do you guys think the white wil be at a premium or no?

  • The_Anim8r

    Hello all.

Am on Loop here in bby, and the chances of an official unlocked iphone 3gs doesn’t seem very bright.

I was thinking of asking a friend coming from Hongkong to get the official unlocked 3gs 16gb for me.
Is there a down side to this?

it should work on Loop without locking up etc? Also would it forever get locked on to my Loop sim or can i change the network anytime?

    Appreciate your help!
    thnx

    :)

  • joe

What do you guys think would be the iphone 3G price (after the 3gs is launched)?

I’m hoping it would come down to around 15k! :D

  • joe

I just called the istore(chennai). They said the iphone 3GS will be launched after 10 days. So i guess its releasing on the 21st Aug Friday :D

  • RiTz

    @rAg

I guess u are right but what the use if there will be another product say 4g launch and in india 3gs will launch so will You or me will buy 3gs????
No….we will be behind of them…..Though India would be not a big market for iPhone but still People here like us who are crazy for apple product feels real disappointment .

What You think Who buys Apple Product?????
People who really know about the technology…who wants to get the best thing …..So if they get things so late then others…it makes feel..

  • Nikhil joshi

@Nidz i am suprised they gave u the dates. even i called the helpline i was given no info and to ur surprise they have very limited knowledge about the device. i hope the device gets launched on 22nd and if it gets launched dont forget to wear a mask to proctect u and ur mobile from the swine flu… stay safe

  • Rishi

Ok, seems like i ran into someone with more sense @ at iStore here in Bangalore.

The dude there was like – logically, it wouldn’t be here before the end of sept – as we dont have ANY information on it, let alone stocks shipping in.

i appreciate the guy’s honesty to say that Apple India itself is clueless…

    nice.

i bought an HTC Magic three weeks back and am stuck with a 30k phone that can’t even load google maps on it. Waiting for this to come so i can pass this on to my brother – and look benovalent at the same time!

  • Shivam

@ Nidz : No i doubt the white one will come at a premium … at least it doesn’t appear so going according to global releases

  • Shivam

I Spoke to a leading grey market dealer in Kolkata he still maintains that there is a strong rumour about the iphone launch this weekend, isnt too sure but he aint ruling it out.

However i’d put my money on the 21st off august launch ..

damn i cant wait to get my hands on an iphone !!

    !@!#$@#%^@%@$!#!

  • crab350

    Hi Guys,

I am from chennai and i am a very bad fan of iphone. since i first touched the iphone 2g i am sure i can’t think of any other phone. I sold my iphone 3g since i got a very good bargain trying to move to 3GS. But to my disappointment i am waiting for the last two months.

Anyways i have been in touch with vodafone and airtel almost every alternative day through email, customer care and also through some of my friends who work there. The real thing is that the dates are not fixed. Of all the bugging i have done to vodafone and airtel, it seems there are 70% probabilty of august release. But one reply i get from everybody is that, there are going to stop 3G once 3gs is released. So if anybody is there who have plans of switching to 3G after knowing the official prices, then i gues you will not be able to get that phone.

Also please don’t go for the grey market. Almost 80% of the phones comng there has some problems or the other internally. Just think who will sell a iphone which doesn’t have a issue.

Anyways i am going to wait for the official release, going to buy that 3gs whatever price it somes out.

I am right now in vodafone. I am in a confusion of staying in vodafone or airtel. I saw some drastic difference in surfing net in iphone using airtel and vodafone. Somehow airtel’s speed is almost double. Would be great if somebody advice me this airtel/vodafone(who’s best). I done mind switching to airtel when i buy 3gs

  • Amit

    hi guys
i called up vodafone cust service n u knw wat an idiot said that vodafone planned to launch iphone 3gs in dec 09 and after that he said its not official it may be up for sale tomorow as well ,i dunno y these companies are not serious may be thats the reason iphone is not doin good in india

and imagine shop at inorbit said that it will be up for sale in sept only

and guys ipod touch 3g is on the cards ie with camera and mic in 16–32–64–and 120 gb variants

how about goin for ipod touch 3g and nokia e72

  • kevin

hi im from chennai im about to buy iphone 3gs 32 gb from a guy i know in customs for 25 k…..what do u say?is it worth?

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish

    Kevin,

I would say buy it only after inspecting the phone and checking if its a sealed box / unused phone.

    But 25k is a steal !

  • shailendra

    Hey Kevin , ‘

Thats great , i would like to get one as well, can you arrange it ?

  • Anush

    Kevin,

I want one .. please arrange .. send me ur email or contact number

  • kevin

hey i guess its not sealed ..its unlocked .nd price is yet to be fixed depending on de market rate……..i ll get to know it in another two days…….first ill buy it nd make sure evrything is okay nd then tell u guys……de iphone r ones which r siezed from persons who bring iphones in bulk to sell it over here…they just unlock it…thts it..i dont think de custom personnels will be messing with it..so i guess its worth de buy.rite now he says de price for iphone 3gs 32 gb is 35 k…..nd will reduce it 25 k..once market prices r known…..but since i know him personally he is considerind it as 25 k

  • Nikhil

@kevin: You really can’t say if someone is out to cheat you or not for sure. 25K for a brand new iPhone 3GS when its not even in the market yet! I think there is more to it than meets the eye.
And a customs guy? he is putting his ass on the line for you for 25 K?? either the customs guy seized that equipment, or it was his to begin with. If it was seized, he shouldn’t be selling it to you, and if its his, then why does he want to sell it?

Its still upto you, like Varun said, 25K is a steal…. a little too much of a steal if you ask me.

As to the other comments about the launch date, i cant say i know for sure or anything, but i have this gut feeling that Apple would have planned for launches in June itself. If it says AUG 09, it should mean AUG 09. They are after all a very professional company. Our companies on the other hand are comprised mostly of not so professional people, so they run off at their mouths.

So here’s hoping that Aug o9 means Aug o9. :) I’ve been waiting from April to even get a 3G(which vodafone bombay said was out of stock) then waited for WWDC o9 release of 3GS, then waited 2 months for Aug o9, so what’s a few more weeks? :)

  • doj

i think iphone 3gs will be launched in Aug 09 as nikhil said as its a reputed and big company.frens lets pray it will be on 14 or 21 Aug.vodafone and airtel are dumb to say anything as if we are unaware of it.

  • Need4Speed

Available in BLR grey market since about a month now. Started at 65k now down to 47k for 32GB & 39k for the 16gb. Not too bad considering the ebay prices is around 700 USD for 16 and 900 for the 32 GB.

Prices will continue to remain high as long there is a shortage of phones of which Apple employees admit.

Also look out for the yellowish tint and low battery life while purchasing these new phones. Yellowishness occurs primarily amongst the white 16 & 32 and battery life is a mixed bag so far according to the apple iphone forum.

  • Nikhil joshi

@dog the details might be only available with companys topguns. even during 3g launch many employees did not had any details even 6 days before launch. so keep ur fingers crossed. i feel the 3gs will be launched on 22 or 28… keep ur fingers crossed and stay safe from h1n1

  • Vipin

    Hi Guys,

    Hi Guys,

    Found an Intresting Update @

    http://news.digitaltrends.com/news-article/20470/apple-admits-it-can-t-produce-enough-of-the-iphone-3gs

    ————————————————–
    As Per them:

In a conference call about quarterly earnings, company chief financial officer Peter Oppenhaimer said:

“We are currently unable to make enough iPhone 3GSs to meet robust demand, and we’re working to address this,” but noted that increased production was on schedule to meet demand when the handset launches in some many new markets.

“We are confident enough in the production ramp that we will be launching about 20 additional countries on 22 August – which would bring our total to over 40 – and we still expect to be selling the iPhone in over 70 countries later this calendar year.”

    ————————————————–

Hope the 20 additional countries Launch on 22 August would also include India :-)

    Hi,
I just talked to an airtel sales person in delhi. He told me that iphone 3GS will be launched in India in this month only, most probably by the end of the month. Also price for iphone 3G 16gb model is also likely to come down to 25-26k from the current 31k…

  • Nikhil joshi

i spoke to both vodafone and airtel sales executive and they did not shed one tiny detail about the launch as if they dont know what iphone 3gs is, they just told currently they dont have any information that product is gonna launch this month or in the future.. strange , i am getting sick of this ppl and tensed because of swine flu

  • Ankur

I think it will be launched either on 21st or on 28th, considering that it launches on friday like last time…

  • Gaurav V

    Its just a phone guys.

I wonder how much some people can spend to get an iPhone. A price of more than 40k is fine for so many people.

I mean, what exactly are you guys going to do with it?
Play games, use some applications, read/send e-mails, SMS, call, click photos etc.
Is it going to give me food when I’m hungry? Or do my office work?
Or reduce the traffic jam that face every morning?

I’m also waiting for this phone and I think its a beautiful phone with fantastic user interface.

However, I think Apple is making a very very big deal out of it. The phone is launched in so many smaller countries, and we are still waiting. Same happened when 2G was to be launched here. By the time most of the people could afford it, it was discontinued. Moreover a better version (3G) was available in other countries.
I’m sure that many people today are waiting for 3GS launch only because they want to get a cheaper 3G. I’m one of them.

I feel, Apple, treating people of this country, secondary.

As you can see, I’m running out of patience. I have to buy a phone. how long you people think should I wait for The Great iphone?

  • Ankur

I talked to an airtel sales man. n he told me iphone 3gs 16gb model wud cost 36k n 32gb 42-44k…

  • Aaron Lee

There is no way im going to spend 40K on it.
They should have learned from what happened last time.
40K on a phone? No ways.
Im keeping my budget to 32K.

  • http://www.harshals.blogspot.com Harsh

Since there is no update on the launch from airtel or vodaphone, we can rule out the 14th and 21′st as the launch dates, because they will start the adverts atleast one week ahead of the actual launch.
I desperately hope I am wrong about this.

  • kevin

if u r intersted in buying iphone 3gs .let me know ur contact details……….my email id is kevinwilliedavid@techgeek.co.in

  • Nikhil

@kevin: I was just putting my thoughts out there man, :) it’ll be really cool if you got one with no strings attached. And if he is a personal friend, then it should be all good.

@Vipin: I certainly hope you are right!

@Gaurav: Like you said, its a wonderful Gadget. But, you give me a phone that will feed me, or reduce traffic in the morning, or even do my work for me(and i dont mean assist) and i will consider it just as strongly as i do the iPhone 3GS i promise you. :) And if you mean “Assist” in doing most of your work, making food, taking routes that have less traffic, Splitting tips, Entertainment, Internet device, and what not all integrated seamlessly under a beautiful and simplified interface, then the iPhone is for you. You should see some of the Apps out there. The Iphone is a much like a handheld computer, just waiting for the right apps to get the job done.
Over and above all that, its easier to use than any phone in the market.
I hope that helps you understand why we are all clamoring for the iPhone 3GS :)

And why we are being treated as a secondary market is quite understandable if you look at it from their side. For each one of us on this blog there are lets assume at most 1000 more people who will buy the iphone, that doesn’t add up to the sales in other countries. Face it, would you run a business that a vast majority of people can’t afford(a vast majority of our citizens wont shell out more than 10K for a mobile) , or dont care enough to want?

  • kevin

this guy says hes ready to sell iphone 3gs 32 gb for 32000k……..to anyone…what do u hve to say…../?

  • kevin

nd he sells only 32 gb not 16 gb..he says there s nothing to worry about the phone…i mean no one tampers it …except when they unlock it……since they get it in bulk he says tht i dont hve to worry if someone is gonna mess with it…….since he does not buy de iphones as single pieces.

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish

Well you could always bargain for 30k ;-)

and tell him you want 5 of them :D

    http://www.fonearena.com/blog/2009/08/14/iphone-3gs-shot-with-gun-do-not-try-this-at-home.html

  • Nikhil joshi

the same thing has happen in india… shot dead… today is 14th august, no launch no launch details… my hope is dying about 22nd launch

  • Maniz

    Hey FOLKs,

I have sad news but true…..

iPHONE 3GS will not coming india this year… !!!!

  • Shivam

Guys i think we overlooked sth important harsha pointed out,
they say that they are going to release the iphone in additional countries on the 22nd of august bringing their global total to 40 countries and then over a period of a couple of months they will release it t the remaining countries, now there are about 40 countries before the aug releases ( i.e the june and july release countires number more than 40) thus there is a slight possibility that we may not see the iphone this month.

    check it out :
    http://news.digitaltrends.com/news-article/20470/apple-admits-it-can-t-produce-enough-of-the-iphone-3gs

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10261481-1.html?tag=mncol;txt

Howevver on the brighter side, i know the owner of this vodafone store and he maintains he was told that it should come out this weekend thought no confirmation … lets hope for the best

  • Aaron Lee

    @Kevin
    32K?
    That’s an awesome steal.
Can you get me more details, if it’s used or anything.

  • Nikhil joshi

guys if iphone does not come by 22nd and if gets more delayed i will be going for samsung omina.. HD video recording , 3.8 inch screen bette resolution and symbian support.. what else will i do. i cant wait

  • http://www.harshals.blogspot.com Harsh

I guess I too won’t wait more longer after Aug if they dont launch 3gs, but will go for the 3G then or the HTC hero.

  • Nikhil joshi

i have a feeling it will take more than 2 months for 3gs launch.. the market seem dead… move ahead or hit grey market which i am totally negative about

  • shailendra

Maniz…Where did that NEWS …plz clarify …and APPLE you are genious why do you act so dumb ? I really cant understand company like you got the best best product …now why are you soo week in marketing ….Even Mc Donald does GREAT marketing with poor product (burgers..many ppl can make better burger than Mc D. ) and they probably make more money than you../…common!!!

  • shailendra

I really hope BSNL (as they have 3g ) or Reliance should crack a deal with iphone 3gs

  • kevin

@aaron lee….its unused iphone only used only for unlocking…..great deal rite ……

  • Nikhil joshi

here see this and get satisfied.. Iphone 3gs on airtel

  • Nikhil joshi

@ xyz i never said it belongs to me.. even i am waiting for an iphone 3gs official launch…which seems 2 months away now

  • Maniz

@shailendra: buddy Apple even cant distribute their new model in US coz of shortage.. they now give only to those who surrender their 3G iphone to APPLE…. den only dey can have iphone 3gs…

So how can we expect i Phone 3Gs in India on dis month…

well m also eagerly waiting for it… but now i think i should move to another option…. :(

  • rAg

@ Nikhil joshi and Varun Krish

those are my listings guys… Its been a while since i sold that phone :P

  • Shivam

In an interview an apple executive commented about the iphone 3GS excess demand

“In terms of affecting the country rollout, I believe the vast majority of the countries that we are selling the 3G in will be selling the 3G S by the end of the fiscal quarter. So it may move a date by a few weeks here or there, but I think the vast majority will be shipping in by the end of the fiscal quarter,” Cook said. “

  • Nikhil

    Hey,
I think it should come either on the 21st or the 28th of AUG, and i say this because of this report

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8162798.stm

it says Tim Cook COO Apple will nevertheless be releasing it in 20 more countries in Aug. I saw a similar report for the iPhone 3G, where Cook is quoted to have said the same thing(verbatim in most cases) but i’d like to believe BBC is a reliable source.

This is only that fine string that people as desperate as i am would love to hold on to! :)

  • Aaron Lee

    @Kevin
Yeah that’s sweet. Think you could hook me up?
Give me your email id – i’ll email you. :)

    @ Maniz
The US supply and the other supplies are totally different. A shortage in usa won’t mean that they won’t supply it to india.

Honestly im just tired. I’ve been chasing around and im tired of hearing my friends abroad boasting about theirs. If you guys are’nt going to settle for an iphone 3gs, go for the samsung star, cause it’s effin cheap. It’s a good deal. If you have a lot of money and want performance, then only go for HTC.

  • Harsha

    Hi All

I’m loosing hopes on 21st Aug, as per IStore Iphone 3GS is expected tobe Launched in 3rd Week of September, at the same time Apple India says it could be launched even this month, I waited so long and dont think would want to wait anymore.

Could anyone suggest what are the alternative phones to buy till 3GS launches, Price no bar. I dont want to buy 3GS from Gray Market.

  • kevin

@aaron lee my id is kevinwilliedavid@techgeek.co.in

  • Nidz

@ Nikhil – this is the first time they have given any dates .. its sad to see how lil knowledge they have abt the iphone .. actually they have no knowledge at all..

@ Shivam – yeah i just hope its not at a premium..

called up airtel again couple of days back same old ans “we have no info regarding the iphone ” their ans keep changing its weird why cant the comp come out with one statement and then stick to it.. and some ppl dnt even know abt the new iphone they keep telling me abt the 3g its so irritating..

called up the apple store in delhi the lady there said it wont come out before oct diwali time thats wht da info they have got from apple..

called up apple helpline the lady there said whatever info we get off the apple site is the true info and we shud not believe in the rumours she was like if on the apple site it says aug ’09 as launch it will be sometime in aug.. then i told her wht the lady at the apple store told me she had no ans…

called up a lot of phone dealers some say aug 22 some say sept some even say oct diwali time..

i think either airtel or vodafone or even apple itself should come out with a statement just stating when can we expect the iphone in India.. cos this way ppl know till when they need to wait.. a lot of ppl who wanted the iphone got sick of waiting and got other phones this way apple is loosing out..

planning to write to apple cos now even my patience is running out..

  • Nidz

Just wrote to Apple lets see what their reply is..

  • Bhavik

    @ Nikhil,

I love your article. Hopefully the 20 countries contains India in the list. I will surely wait just because of this article.

I think i should we should wait for Monday, if its launching on 22 according to article, there should be advertisements on Monday at least. Else it would be very disappointing.

  • Hytesh

GUYS IPHONE 3GS WILL BE IMPORT IN MID OF SEP AND WILL BE LAUNCH UPTO DIWALI, AND THATS REALLY A BAD NEWS

  • Joy

Apple: “We will be launching about 20 additional countries on 22 August” @ Nikhil – Looks like Aug 22 is the date, based on the BBC story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8162798.stm) and the earlier Apple announcement that it’ll be in India by August. Furthermore, the story goes on to mention that “the recent increase in production of the handset was “right on schedule” and would be enough to meet the projected demand when the handset launched in more markets”.

  • Harsha

I Checked for HTC Magic (Android phone – getting a deal @ 24500/-) with Free 100MB/month data downloads for 6 months, I checked the Interface its pretty good, with Customizable screen and some Android Applications.

    I compared 3GS and Magic @

    http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1938&view=1&c=apple_iphone_3gs_32gb

    http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1708&view=1&c=htc_magic_htc_sapphire_100

I guess this would be the best alternative for Iphone 3GS, I’m buying this tomorrow.

Hope I’m choosing the best one, advise me.

  • SaiLeSh

    @kevin
Im interested in gettin a WHITE 3GS 32 gigs…Think u can help me out??
id be extremely grateful if u could!!!

  • Harsha

I Called Airtel today, just wanted to check about Launch before I buy HTC Magic, the guy who answered the call said, they have the pre launch information but he cant tell over the call, I tried to get the info from him, but he was not ready to tell anything, finally he said it could be launched end of this month, now I’m in more confusion either to buy HTC or not, I guess now I need to wait till end of the Month for the Update.

  • WiliWonka

The “Aug ’09″ photo of the slide with the list of countries contains 32 countries. Combine that with the BBC story about 40 additional countries on August 22 and we have the date for the iPhone 3G S launch in India: August 22.

    At least, I hope.

  • Grako

    Hey,
Lot of people are saying, that it will be a Friday launch, & also BBC news and etc… says 22 August.
but 22 Aug is Saturday and not friday.

    iPhone 2G > 3GS (hopefully)

Now, only if i had a relative/friend living in Hong Kong.
As, HK had in 2008, & also in 2009, world’s cheapest unlocked iPhone.
@ 33000, which is sold in Indian grey markets @40000.

I have heard, that Airtel’s gonna unlock iphone after a certain period of duration, Free of Cost. (i don’t believe this, completely though)

Does anybody know, if Delhi Airport Custom guys also sell iPhones for 25000 ?

  • Hytesh

i heard dis 4rm an excecutive of imac showroom in mumbai.

  • Joffin

Just now called Airtel CC they told that it ll be launched end of this month but its not confirmed.Keep fingres crossed ;)

  • Andy

    Hello,
After waiting for this long, I am kind of leaning towards HTC touch diamond2, the advantage I see is I can buy full fledged turn by turn navigation software from mapmyindia and use this phone as navigation system for my car. I think this can same me about 14-15 k. But I guess I miss all other applications for iphone, So I am not sure, what should I do??

    Thanks guys for your suggestions.
    Andy

  • Nikhil joshi

it will be august 22 or after 2 months

  • Anonymous

    @ all,

am not buying the story about there not being enough buyers in India – the phone is slated for release in freakin’ Madagascar for goddsake!!!

The story is the same – we wait, and wait – till its too late.
A good chunk of iPhone 2G users in the west held on an upgraded to 3Gs directly. Here in India, we never got that chance – unless the iPhone 3GS makes its foray latest by Diwali, the charm is lost and its likely to get far,far lesser customers. Most iPhones sell on a novelty factor and that is being killed.

The HTC Hero is interesting and so is the Palm Pre. The Magic in India was useless(i rooted mine last week, so its kinda fun now) – but the best phones out there are still not accessible to us, save the N97( considering its Nokia’s flagship model).

Now, between Madagascar and India, I’d pick selling the iPhone here than Madagascar.

  • Nidz

Just called up airtel cc the guy there said it’s coming out either this week or next for sure but they don’t know the price range… Hope he is right.. Can’t wait any longer for it..

    *fingers crossed*

  • LiadMarnus

    @ Sanjay Singh

From Abad as well buddy. Which store do you speak of??
Could you give me the no. as well.
    Thanks.

  • kevin

    @amit……….i can buy de iphone 3gs 32gb for 35k in chennai…….lol
@grako chennai custom guys sell it for 35k for 32 gb iphone3gs…..not sure about delhi..i guess it must be for iphone 3g not 3gs

  • Kaushal

Just called Vodafone helpline & they told its definitely getting launched in August. But he didn’t say me any date or price.

After lot of pestering he disclosed that it will be end of august.

  • Maniz

Gudy gudyy news guys I phone 3gs is now available in vodafone stores… go get it… m also goin…. :)

  • Drew

@SANJAY SINGH – Which store exactly in Ahmedabad because I am currently there. I was heading back to Chicago and was gonna pick up a 3GS in a few weeks but would rather buy it here from Vodafone as Ill be here for another 2 years.

Its not just about the Device, its also about the support plus ‘Activating” rather than the Dev Team “Hacktivating” to allow PUSH.

Currently on my AT&T iPhone, I did the Push Notification Hack and its working, but you never know what apple comes up with to disable PNS. Then you have an iPhone that cant Synergies.

  • Nidz

    wht about airtel?????

  • Nidz

it must be the iPhone 3G as there is no news on the 3G S release on the vodafone website or the news..

  • Anuj

Called up apple sales on 18004254646 .. they said it’ll be launched in September or October .. phew i already sold my iphone 3G now gonna be i-less for a month maybe more (is there any emoticon to show me crying)

  • Nidz

To think of it we are fools who are making a big issue that the iphone hasnt been launched and all that.. the key speech said aug ’09 as launch month for India so technically till 31st aug we have to wait and there are still 13 days to go.. if it doesnt come till 31st from 1st sept we can start complaining but till then we have to wait…

and besides there is a saying “If you watch a kettle, it never boils” ..

  • Nikhil joshi

ppl iphone 3gs has not been launched in india. both airtel and vodafone are selling the old 3G phone not 3GS… wait till 22 august if still the phone is not gonna launch then i will buy samsung omina HD. casue i have sold me iphone 3g for over a month now and i am sick and tired of waiting & i if its not coming on 22 Then Diwali.

  • Harsha

    Not a Good Sign …

Aug. 18 (Bloomberg) — Rogers Communications Inc., the only Canadian wireless company that sells Apple Inc.’s iPhone 3GS device, is out of stock due to high demand for the phones, the Globe and Mail reported.

Rogers wrote on its Web site that the device will be available “in the coming weeks” as the Toronto-based company fills back orders first, the newspaper said. Rogers’s Fido brand is also out of stock in most of its stores.

Global demand for Apple’s newest iPhone has exceeded the company’s own forecasts and phone companies in Australia and elsewhere have been adjusting to the shortage, the Globe said.

  • rohit

the 3GS should be out on the first of september or maybe later for vodafone airtel is supposed to announce the phone a little earlier..

  • Nidz

I feel we shud wait till the end of this month before buying any phone we have waited so long a few more days won’t make a diff.. Lets not hurry into anything..

  • rishi
  • Aaron Lee

    Guys good news.
I went and personally spoke with a sales rep for vodafone and airtel. He said the iphone 3gs is coming out this week or next, before august ends. And it’ll be priced at 36-38K for the 16 gb. They’re asked not to announce the release date.

  • Anuj

1st september sounds unlikely .. iphone is usually launched on a weekend .. I personally feel it’ll be launched on the 28th of this month for three essential reasons:-
    1. 28th is a friday
    2. it cant be 21st coz if it was then it wud’ve been out in the press by now
    3. Apple has claimed for the launch this month and c’mon apple is a big company not adhering to their own statement is a big stain on their propriety.

So if I my guess is ‘bang on’ then we can see some official information coming from 21st onwards

  • Nidz

36k -38k for 16 gb that’s a bit much .. How much will the 32gb priced at did they have any info on that??

  • Ravi

    @rishi – that’s about last year 3G launch, dude

  • Nikhil joshi

i bet that india wont be among 22 country to launch the iphone… the iphone is a hit in any country they launch and considering their previous 3G failure they wont prefer taking a risk incase if even 3GS fail in india they dont want to gather stocks here when they are easily sold in other countries… when this buzz dies down the phone will make it to india.

  • Drew

Even when I asked my guy at Voda he stated that there is NO news and he believes it might be another month or two before the release. Plus the N97 release came in the way so they cant release the iPhone and the Nokia at the same time.

  • ANAND JAIN

Info from Airtel in Madhya Pradesh

  • rohil

is it coming with a bang without any advertisement..

  • Nikhil

All i think we can do now is wait and watch. And by watch i prefer to watch for sites that have more info :) I think this was posted before, but Thailand is releasing it on the 28th of this month. Check out their carriers site- truemove. maybe we might get it then too. The only factor that makes me really unsure is that neither vodafone nor airtel have put up iPhone 3gs ads on their site, whereas Thailand’s true move has and it has allowed people to pre-order from the 9th i think.

here is a link to an article – http://asia.cnet.com/blogs/technology-thailand/post.htm?id=63012823&scid=rvhm_ms

and this is the Truemove site: http://www.truemove.com/iphone/eng/index.htm

does this give me hope? I Hope so :)
These sites were updated after July 23rd, when the news of the shortage was at its peak. So I am fairly certain Thailand will get its phone on the 28th. I wonder why Indian Carriers are taking a backseat to this sale.
@Varun(Author) You could get a hold of Vodafone India CEO’s email and give him a link to this article and let him read the comments. There will be at least 100 people more for every one person commenting here who wants to get their hands on the 3GS :)

    Godspeed people!

  • rohit

think the 16gb is going to be around 34000-35000 and the 32gb should be around 40000 or something like that spoke to some guy from the apple store. there not going to be a big hype around it. the main feature like 3G isnt eve available to most of the indian market.

  • Drew

@ ANAND. Where exactly was this information obtained from. Airtel in MP is a bit broad. We hear many things from Many people. Just checking how to indentify this info as credible.

  • wasim

  • Bhavik

Vodafone has launched iPhone 3GS in Greece in August first week. Vodafone Turkey will launch it from 28th August.

iPhone 3GS will also be available in Indonesia shortly as the carrier has started registering the users.

As nikhil said thailand is also going to get it on 28th. I think shortage of iPhones should not be a problem. Its all on our operators + apple about when they want to start selling it in india.

  • Ashish

i am making my guess on the pricing front.. well its a calculated guess..
true move of thailand has priced the 16GB model at 24500 baht which amounts to approx. 36000/- and the 32GB model at 28500 bhat which amounts to 42000/- seems to be a lil too much to me..

  • Nikhil

Looks like Vodafone Turkey too is getting it on the 28th of August. Here is the link to Vodafone Turkey… original Turkish text translated courtesy Google Translate

Just collating evidence to give me more hope for an august launch. Again mind you, vodafone India has said nothing so far :(

  • Anuj

Today I spoke to a biggie in airtel .. he’s from the iphone department itself. I have any issues on my iphone he does the needful for me. He says 3GS is not getting launched this month, september could be the month.

  • mithun

  • spider

Folks, I have got the news from official sources of Apple, that, it is not going to be released until October. :( (

  • Anuj

    @harsha
Ur giving us good hopes .. i did not get similar information when i called up vodafone. Hope what u said is true. This forum is actually the best n most updated for iphone 3gs launch in india i refresh it like 40 times a day .. keep posting

  • rohit

are you serious on the 28th?? think everyone is getting tired of waiting for this phone. hope it lives up to all of the expectations and we don’t get defective phones. there are a couple of reports that a couple of iphones have exploded and some other minor issues.. anyone know the colour they’re going to get? was thinking white

  • crab350

Guys.. all this vodafone/airtel guy told is all b*** sh**.. We all know that none of these guys know anything about the iphone. I am waiting for about three months and i will wait. We all know that this is the best phone ever we had seen, and its worth wiating for it,

  • km

@Harsha – I appreciate your piece of news but I really doubt these Vodafone Cust care guysz… I wish its true…

@mithun – hope its true coz I also know some Vodafone guys in Delhi they have no such news of it as of now…

I am also sick of rumors now …

I guess we have to wait for it dunno till when… :(

Wish is the only thing we could do right now and nothing else…

  • shanky

i called up the apple india company the other day… they told it will take more 2mnths to release!!

  • Nidz

Some person from airtel called me today I asked him abt the launch he said not this year and he was damn sure Abt that the person I spoke to a few days back at the airtel cc said 28th the phone will be launched and he was 100% sure .., this just shows neither airtel nor vodafone have any news or maybe they are not disclosing it …

All we can do it wait and hope its launched within this month..

@rohit – the iPhone comes in 2 colors black and White and I think both these colors will be available … Even il be getting a White one…

  • Stevereno

So freaking sweet. Can’t wait to get my own!

  • rAg

    @yogesh

Dude do do such a thing.. customs people will rip u off.. even i tried the same thing by getting a phone from US.. my fren took the phone on contract initially so he even had the bill for 199$ + taxes, he attached the bill too along with the courier but customs people took an estimate of 26k and added 14.9% taxes which almost came to around 4.5k :(

and added to this they took 12 bloody days to clear it.. it took me almost 20 days for getting the phone delivered..

so dont even think of going for direct shipping.. it will u hell lot..

    @all desperately waiting

3GS is awesome guys.. much much better than a 2g.. but people who are using a 3G right now need not be so very excited. It isnt worth upgrading the phone.. u can be happy with a 3g itself.. Thats the reason i sold off my 16gb 3GS at 37k and got a 3g 16gb for 21k.. right now u can lay ur hands on a 3g for pretty good price as everyone is selling it off to upgrade to 3GS.. So if u wanna get a 3g now is the good time to do it :)

  • Nikhil joshi

first we dreamed about iphone launching on 22nd.. tomorrow is 22nd and the phone will be launched in 22 countries except india. the phone will nor launch on 28th. not september the release date will be october mid.

  • Grako

Can anyone arrange iPhone 3GS from Delhi Airport- Customs, for approx 25K.

I guess, they seize them from Grey market people, who try smuggling unlocked iPhone 3GS from hong kong to sell in Delhi markets.

Does anybody know someone, who can get an iPhone 3GS from customs.
    Is it worth it ?

  • km

@Grako and @All who wish to go for a grey market or an illegal/unlocked/imported etc. handset of 3GS

Mate .. we all are as desperado as you are for iPhone 3GS… just sharing my previous experience with you.. rest is your wish…

I bought iPhone 2G 8GIG from grey market in Delhi, when it was not launched in India… the phone only lasted for one week.. Yes mind you one week!!! and I paid a whooping Rs 32k for that… The phone started freezing after short breaks and finally gave up completely after a week of use… and the guy bought it back from me for Rs. 12k only… he said that its not worth any more had to reopen it and do some technical stuff, might be fooling me but I had a major loss and setback and decided that I wouldn’t ever by a handset be it iPhone or any without legal launch and warranty…

its getting frustrating waiting for it now but have no other choice… :)

  • http://www.fingor.com/ Fingor

I think that no one exactly knows about the release data for sure. It may even be possible that the negotiations at the very top level might be in the process.

Apple, might be considering bids from all the carriers from throughout the world and based on type of bid { contract type, urgency etc } would be deciding which of the bids to accept and the remaining would be getting delayed. All this happening because of limited iPhone stock supplies.

I concluded this just because I strongly believe that launch dates can’t be kept that secret for so long when we(community at whole) have such insiders at carriers and their distribution network levels.

  • Venkat

    Hi!
Hi! I thought it might be interesting to see what the timeline on the iPhone 3G launch in India was and found this in a Sify article-
“The phone, which won Time magazine’s coveted ‘Invention of the Year 2007′ honour, and marked the Cupertino-based computer giant’s foray into the mobile phone arena, debuted in June last year.
Although Apple had then stated that India would get the phone by November 2007, it wasn’t until this May that Bharti and Vodafone made public the upcoming launch of the phone.”

    Paraphrased, this would indicate -
    iPhone 3G debut June 07.
Apple says it would be avlbl in India by Nov 07, but it launched only around Aug 08, with launch info avlbl in May 07.

So I wonder – despite us all hoping that Apple’s promised 3GS launch date for India being Aug 09, their dates did not hold true for the iPhone 3G launch, so why would they hold true for the 3GS launch?

  • mathen

so iphone 3gs wont be here till october!considering huge demand in us and other markets ,apple is not able to meet demand even in us u have to wait for 1 to 2 weeks,so get yours from grey market!ofcourse at a premium price,no point in waiting and spreading rumours………..or go for 3g till 3gs get officially launched here..

  • Nikhil

@Venkat: your timeline is inaccurate. It was the original iPhone that was launched in 2007. 2008 June showed the iPhone 3G. As far as i remember, the iPhone was never slated to be launched in India. The iPhone 3G however was, and it did release on August 22, 2008.

That site you are quoting could be inaccurate, we all know why we felt 9th august was the launch date for the 3GS, because of reckless copying over the internet. Similarly the news report on shortages and Tim Cook saying it plans to continue the roll out on Aug 22 in 20 countries is just recklessly copied by multiple sites too.

    Patience is a virtue i guess. :)

Some of the evidence is pointing to a 28th launch, just as there is evidence to the contrary. If you want the iPhone 3GS wait for it. If you just want a swanky new phone, go ahead get anything you want. A grey market product is always a risk, just as buying from customs is. This money that you pay to customs goes to the officer or the Govt.? think about it. If its going to the officer isn’t it illegal? And in either case(customs or grey market) isn’t giving you the support that Apple will, nor will you have any place to go in a case of stark injustice(broken/faulty phone, troubleshooting etc).

And If you want Apple and its partners in India to take the Indian customer base seriously, buy original stuff. Who wants to sell anything to people who would at the drop of a hat go through unofficial channels to obtain their product?

  • sandeep

    today i approached a
guy from airtel and he said there is no such date of launch of iphone3gs announced like 9th or 18th or 22nd nor 28th so guys keep your cool and wait as we have no other choice

  • Sahil B

    @ sam

cn u gv me contact no. fr dat airtel store in bangalore …

  • mithun

    launch is very near guys……

  • rohit

india isnt a primary focus for apple they seem more bothered to launch the phone in china and get it approved by the government there. the sales in india were too low. airtel and vodafone advertising is aimed primarily at their services and not particular handsets. the grey market does sound like a bad idea. the anticipation is the best form of marketing ever. the phone should be out yet. airtel was supposed to have already announced the date. the phone is launching earlier with airtel. the demand for the phones is massive but they have already stepped up production but they said that there might be a delay getting to indian market because of the delay. 28th doesnt sound too far fetched

  • http://www.fingor.com/ Fingor

    Hi Mithun,

    Please explain your basis…

  • rAg

Even i totally agree with nikhil

Be patient and buy an iPhone officially and show apple that india is also a potential base for apple products.

You all are aware of the advantages so be patient guys. You will get a valid one year warranty that protect your costly device just in case something goes wrong. You get free GPRS worth almost 6000 bucks which is very useful, an iPhone without GPRS isnt the best way to use it ;) , you get to upgrade your iphone anytime you want, a new update of 3.1 firmware will be out soon and apple is changing the baseband in that firmware which will disable the software unlock mostly so all u peeps buying gray market phones cant upgrade to 3.1 either.

When you spend such high amount on a phone you need to be patient and get the best deal possible. So wait and buy a phone officially guys.

  • ankit

    @nikhil
    @rag
    I’m in.

“He that can have Patience, can have what he will”

    Benjamin Franklin quotes.

  • matt

@SAM—-could u be more specific as to which airtel store in koramangala has started booking as there are 3 stores there

  • Venkat

@Nikhil: Thanks for correcting the timeline. It seems the iPhone 3GS launch is fast becoming an urban legend in India…will it, won’t it, when.
I completely agree re the issue surrounding grey market purchases, this does no one any favors.

I suppose we all just need to wait and watch now!

  • matt

guys wat sam says is true….i’ve myself found that airtel connect at koramangala, bangalore has started bookings for iphone 3gs with an upfront payment of Rs 5000….they say launch is august end….hopefully august 28th….price details will be out in a few days…..anybody wanting confirmation can contact the iphone incharge person at airtel connect, koramangala on +919845171421

  • Sam

@mithun….Just spoke with Airtel guys at Koramangala, they are taking Rs5000 as advance amount for iphone 3gs booking and are non-committal on launch date. However they did mention mention 99.99% August end launch.

  • rishi

buying from grey is not a risk i had 2g and it is in perfect shape if u buy official there not much thing u can do by jailbreaking it u can get free apps also app store apps free u can even upgrade it easily there r always some security holes n hey take advantage .considering warranty it is onlyfor a year ur battery will die only after a year n a half n gprs its 2 slow .

  • Satish

    Hello Guys,

I Just spoke to Airtel in Koramangala 5th block.
They are accepting bookings for iphone 3gs. They are collecting rs. 5000/- advance per phone. Exact final price of phone not known, and the launch date is being told as this weekend or 1st week of September. The contact number of Airtel Koramangala is 09845035213.
Anyone can call this number and confirm.

  • Venkat

And one more thing: on a recent trip to Shenzhen, I saw shop after shop selling what looked like iPhones -but of course they weren’t. They were knock-offs. And very convincing looking knock-offs too!
So how does one know when one resorts to buying in the gray market that what you are getting is a legit iPhone?
    It’s best avoided.

  • Aaron Lee

    @Venkat
If one can’t tell the difference between an actual iphone and a knock-off, one must be really whacked in the head.

  • doj

Frens if you have waited so long as I have for the Iphone 3gs then wait till 28th or first week of Sep.As Apple said Aug,It should be Coz its a Big company and they should be commited to what they said.I am gonna buy a 16 GB IPhone 3GS,I read reviews from Diiferent review sites and It seems so cool and fantastic.
I also wonder why they dont air about IPhone 3GS on ndtv gadet, cellguru, tech tree and mobiles and more on ZEE BUsiness.
Lets pray and wait.who knows it will hit the store from nowhere.

  • A

Just spoke to my friend from Vodafone and he says that the launch will be ‘soon’- they are trying to come up with better price points for India (maybe constant or cheaper)…

  • sandeep

i think 1st week of september sounds possible because till date there are no advertisements going on so now wait for another 12 days

  • rohit

think its going to be on the 28th for sure.. this is good news..

  • jatin

hey satish its great news that you have given to all of us!
I just hope that its true…at least if we can pre book our iphones a that would be a great relief!!!
please can you confirm if the news is true?
Thanks a lot from all of us!
    cheers

  • vankoo

iphone 3Gs is comin on 28th aug.. its confirmed that airtel ppl are takin 5000 rs in advance for iphone in koramangala bangalore.

  • mathen

Since at least one place, they have started booking….so its coming atlast….

  • Anuj

    Guys,
The fact that an Airtel relationship center at koramangala has started accepting advance payments really points out to a clear evidence that the launch is indeed soon, BUT take this fact just as an evidence and not as a method to prebook your phone. Do not pay 5000 bucks till the phone is launched, rare come rare it could be a scandal too. Besides you dont get anything by paying that amount nor does the phone launch earlier with those 5000 bucks. So wait for the i-day to come pay the full amount and carry your mighty baby home.

  • mithun

@sam and fingor….. the information which i have received is it should be here bfore sept 2nd… the training for the employees for the 3GS is goin on with vodafone….. dont have any idea abt airtel though… hope for the best

  • ankit

as per roller coaster tycoons info that there will be a big iphone 3GS launch on the 1st of sept…i dont think it will be launched on the 6th of sept as he has mentioned in his most recent comment cause Apple always starts selling its products on a friday(even the snow leopard will start selling on the 28th of aug which is a friday) wherein the launch date can be any date so considering the launch being on the 1st of sept they can start selling it either on the 4th of sept which is a friday,6th of sept is not possible as its a sunday or the 11th of sept which is again a friday…I would personally bet that apple will start selling it on the 11th of sept bcoz after launching it on the 1st of sept I dont think they will just advertise it for 3 days and start selling it on the 4th of sept which is a friday… but it is still possible if they dont want to advertise much…I am betting on the 11 of sept friday becoz lookin at last year apple lauched the 3G on the 6th of august and started selling it on the 22nd of august which was a friday and this gave apple 16 days to advertise the 3G looking at that I dont think apple will launch it on the 1st of sept and then start selling it on the 4th of sept after just 3 days of ads that why it will be launched on the 1st of sept, they will advertise it for 10 days and then start selling it on the 11th of sept and if we precisely follow last years way then 1st of sept launch 16 days of ads and the 3GS will start selling on the 18th of sept which is a friday…i can definitely bet its either the 11th of sept or the 18th of sept and definitely nothing beyond that… :)

  • A

    bad luck guys!!!
i spoke 2 d airtel guy who was accepting advance booking according to him d phone will be launched not earlier than next month coz of shortage :(

  • Anuj

If anyone has used an iPhone 3G before, you must be aware how prone the back side is to scratches. I had purchased iSkin solo worth Rs.2500(current price Rs. 2750) when my phone was brand new. An item so expensive still could not prevent the scratches on the back side of my phone. But now I am 3GS ready with ZAGG invisible shield. This transparent film is just 0.2 mm in thickness (thinner than your scratch guard) and is custom made for iPone 3G/3GS to be applied on the back, the screen, home button and the metal border. It is so strong that it is actually used by the US army helicopter’s blades to prevent erosion. The company is so confident about their product that they offer a life-time warranty on it. Scratches on phone is far from question even if you see a single scratch on the shield after 40 years, they will give you a new one. You can check out the videos of this shield on youtube. Anyway I bought it for $24.99 and I have a few extra ones so if anyone is interested can call me on 9987013485. I’ll give it to you for 1500.
Please note I am not a distributor so you cant come to me for warranty claims, this thing is not available in India, yes but you can register your shield on zagg.com to apply for the life-time gurantee

  • Venkat

@Aaron Lee: a layperson seeing the iPhone might not recognise the finer nuances of the hardware or the os- are you familiar with the very sophisticated grading system Chinese knock- offs employ? Trust me, visually, the grade ‘A’ fakes come very close to originals, down to the packaging.
Only goes to show: if a deal is too good to be true, it invariably is.

  • Arslan

If its priced above 15 k then its useless

    Hey Guys,

Apple today posted the launch date of Snow Leopard on their website, the Apple Online Store and in a press release that the release date will be Friday, August 28th.

One announcement along with launch of their OS might be iPhone launch dates in remaining countries.

  • rAg

    @Anuj

I used invisible shield from zagg twice and even now i get discount coupons from them…

anyways i wanna tell u that its nothing more than crap and its just a marketing gimmick… after few days it starts to peel of from the edges.. then it will start turning yellowish.. one more problem is that it is damn too sticky and have never seen any of my frens who were successfully able to install it on their iphone/ipod touch.. its just waste of money… and also when u apply it on the screen u cant move your finger easily for swiping and all.. it has more rubbery feel than normal scratch guards.. even if ur hand has a bit of moisture it would be literally impossible to use the screen freely..

bottom line: dont go for it.. its just waste of money…

instead try decals from decalgirl.com which look cool and offer good protection and are really thin… also it costs just 8$ each..

if u dont like the flashy designs u even get plain colours..

  • sandeep

i personally talk to the airtel store in banglore and the concerned person refused to take any advance for iphone 28th august is impossible and all of us are only talking in air so guys wait for the launch

  • mithun

guys… most probably sept 1st is the date

  • Anuj

    @rAg
how much discount do u usually get on the invisible shield?

  • rAg

    @anuj

mostly 20% discount which is given to all returning customers.. at times u even have 50% off sale..

  • Nikhil

today is 26 . trust mw guys launch wont happen on 28. my friend is owner of airtel gallery and he does not have a bit of info about the launch or future launch date… i predict the date September End

  • Amit

Hi guys “”"”"”Good News Good News Good News”"”"”"”

Vodafone started taking booking for iphone 3gs @ 10000 So Go grab it!!!

  • Bhavik

    @Amit,

Whats the source of your news? Did you visit a vodafone store personally?

  • matt

@amit…could u be more specific as to which store is taking the bookins

  • KM

Just called up Vodafone – they still repeat the same response like a radio player –
Vodafone: “Happy to Help but we are out of stock for iPhone”
Self: “No I am not asking about iPhone 3G – I am asking about iPhone 3Gs”
Vodafone: “Sorry sir we have no information on that”

    ……….
This just sucks royally – I really wish there was a bloody alternative for iPhone. Damn.

  • http://zopag.com Maniz

    @ all

Guys He(Amit) is makin fool of u all…. Apna dimag lagao….

Apple is not a crap f*ckin Co. which can launch their product without ne kind of advert….

    :x

  • Harsha

I’m one of the iphone fans who have been madly waiting for the Launch from past 45 Days, I Called a guy whom I know @ Airtel, He said they just received the new stock for Iphone 3G (not 3GS) 8GB & 16GB, which were out of stock from past few weeks with Airtel and they are selling them at the previous Price only (31K & 36K).

He said there is a possibility that Airtel might Confirm the Launch Date & Price for 3GS on 29th Aug and would launch the same in couple of days after the announcement.

On the other Hand Vodafone customer care agents are acting weird again, none of them atleast know what 3GS is …

Same as with Airtel Customer Care …

Finally Called Apple India they say they cant comment on anything till its officially confirmed.

So I guess the Launch could be by the end of September, Hope I’m wrong.

  • SaiLeSh

I’ve got some real bad news for everybody….
AIRTEL has confirmed that they will not be launching the 3GS anytime soon. They told me that the launch would happen sometime in the 2nd week of October.
The problem cited was the same—-SHORTAGE!!!
    Damn u APPLE!!!
    :(

  • joseph

i think all of us should just stop talking and spreading rumours. just wait for the launch though it seems like eternity!!!!! its really irritating when ppl like sam matt satish amit say some crap and gets all our hopes high. the airtel store in koramangala is not accepting any bookings, they are just taking names and contact of all those who enquire, so as to notify if they get any info. a vodafone sales man told me too launch was end of aug but the silence thereafter means even they are clueless. so s not get our hopes high, when its time it will happen.

  • joe

well even if the 3GS launch is going to be delayed, they should atleast reduce the price for the iphone 3G. I’m very disappointed with apple [:(]

  • matt

    @ joseph
i dont know about the other names u’ve taken but my post was not crap…that was wat the airtel koramangala guy incharge of iphone there had said…and m too waiting for the launch as eagerly as u…wen u got so irritated just by getting to know that they have stopped taking bookings, just imagine my state of mind when i went all the way to koramangala with Rs 5000 to make the booking and he tells me that they have stopped the bookings…this is the same guy who conformed to me the previos day that they have started the bookings….so instead of pointing a finger at me, i would really appreciate if u could call up the airtel koramanagla guy on his given number and give him a earful for misleading iphone fans like u, me and all others on this blog i.e; just the thing what i’ve done

  • Arun

    Hey Guys,

This is confirmed news abt iphone 3gs

AIRTEL: I agree that Airtel koramangala started collecting 5k a advance for iphone, but when i walked in today, they said they cannot accept the deposit as apple has confirmed the delayed launch. the launch will be MID OCTOBER 2009.

istore: i got the same news from apple istore also. iPhone 3gs will be released only in mid october and not before that

However they have stopped selling 3g.

  • Sam

@joseph…There was no crap in my post so please control ur sentiments. There was a big banner displayed outside Airtel Koramangala 80ft road outlet on Saturday 8/23 saying “iphone 3gs: Launching Soon, please contact xxxxx for Advance Booking”.

When I called up that number the Airtel guy told me about Rs5000 as the booking amount and confirmed 99.9% August end launch for 3gs.

Looks like they have changed their stand now due to global scarcity of 3gs stock.

  • Amit

    @ bhavik & Matt

    guys call vodafone cust service

  • Amit

    @joseph

if u r so pissed off y dont u stop visiting this blog look at urself 1st….. then point fingers.

  • gT

    Hi Guys,

While its increasingly dissapointing and pissing off that the iPhone 3GS release is not coming any time soon, would request you all to please stop spreading rumours or asking some one to leave and stop visiting this forum/blog. I’ve been personally following it from the past 40 days or so, and trust me, if someone out there is taking the time to write something in here, its worth a read.

That makes it even more important that we just dont paste news like – “It is confirmed” and all, without any basis behind it. It just does one thing : Irritates us all further, coz we get hopeful and nothing happens. Enough speculation has already poured in on the release of the iPhone, and I dont see anything happening out here (thanks to all the hope and rumours).

So, my only request is, if you are taking time to paste something here, please paste relevant news and back it up with a picture or something atleast.

All of us are serious to buy the iPhone here.

I will continue to follow this forum/blog since I too am keen to buy one.

    Thanks to all.

  • Venkat

This thread is fast becoming very Bollywood – lengthy, with a fair amount of song and dance, and ****loads of heavy duty drama! And there’s a love story lurking underneath it all to boot! Way to go!

  • Nikhil joshi

i am trying to get the device from a friend in USA.

  • ANDY

IPHONE 3GS INDIA RELEASE MID SEPTEMBER TO EARLY OCT 09 FOR SURE
    DEFINATELY BEFORE DIWALI
JUST TRUST ME GUYS, I AM WAITING 4 IT TOO
THIS INFORMATION COME FROM A VERY RELIABLE SOURCE

  • Anuj

Ha ha .. this forum is actually turning out funny .. like all of us here are stranded on an island and making wild predictions about the rescue boat’s arrival .. if we see one helicopter hovering which is not even meant for the island we start celebrating and then the helicopter goes n then again we wait in anticipation. guys the fact is …… ONE DAY WE WILL BE RESCUED .. and that day we come back to this forum and give group hugs to each other. We’ll miss this island

  • Anuj

So next time if someone does say something like “its confirmed……” dont take them wrong .. coz they just saw a helicopter .. your bad that you didn’t

  • sandeep

guys, i was in the states last week and wasnt able to buy the iphone since they only can sell it to AT&T account holders only. Yes, this applies to the 599 and 699 without contract option as well. They also had a pretty stingent verification process so attempt at convincing them was in vain.

After my return back, i was able to get a hold of a friend who happened to be an AT&T acc holder. He shipped it to someone who is coming to india soon.

In total the 32gb one is going to cost me around Rs.39,000 ($700 + 50$ tax + shipping). Its working out quite expensive even from there.

From what I know there isnt really a shortage of the 3Gs model at the apple stores across the US.

Also Alfa (irla, mumbai) is selling the 16gig for 37k and 32gig for 44k. An extra 5k over US cost. Not a bad deal for those really waiting for a long time.

My final feeling is that even @ 39k the phone is overpriced.

  • Nikhil joshi

well i am been telling from day one that launch will happen on mid oct, but its hard for ppl to buy that.and expect the price for 16gb to be around 37-40k and i have heard rumors that either airtel or vodafone one of them is backing up from the iphone

  • trooper

hey everyone m in the us ryt now n m comin home in bt 3 weeks from now..what i can make out of the whole situation back home is that if it were ta launch it wud have by now..its gonna be stretched till sep and in the end the price is gnna be so high that we wud have to sell ourselves to buy the godforsaken thing…as far as apple america is conc these ppl have made the whole deal simpler and affordable but only for americans..!! i called up vodafone today n they have no clue of what m tokn bt…3G S sounds like some outta space invention to em…u want the iphone…get american citizenship…gt an AT&T AC N BUY THE IPHONE…

  • yogesh

iphone 3gs is launching tomarrow in CHINA… But not in INDIA… Sad

  • Roulette

I have been eagerly waiting for the iphone-3gs since the apple’s wwdc announced it but it seems i cannot wait any longer.. i will get my hands on with nokia 5800, seems like a good phone, half the price, and all the good features.. even though iphone is good with its huge amount of apps and the capacitive screen which is more sensible during gameplay.. I cannot wait any longer..Guys I am OUT……

  • rohit

am done waiting for the phone just checked out the nokia E55 online. it has a lot of the features that the iphone has and is less then half the price waiting for this phone is pointless.. we arent even going to get the fast data speeds that u get in the US or other countries…

  • Anuj

OHHHHHHHHHHH…KAYYYYYYY .. now i know what is delaying the launch
iPhone 3G was no success in India .. because it wasn’t the ‘iPhone’ that launched, it was ‘iPhone 3G’ even now its not ‘iPhone S’ that is launching its the ‘iPhone 3G S’ .. Read between the lines .. they are just keeping this highly confidential .. there is no shortage of supplies .. but it will be released when they know that the consumer does not just benefit from the ‘iphone & s’ factor but also the third one which is not yet in India. trust me guys if this is the case then its a good business strategy. but cons of this: launch takes another 2 months

    read this:
    http://www.efytimes.com/e1/36805/India‘s%203G%20Spectrum%20Auction%20Expected%20Soon!.htm

iPhone 3GS officially launched in Egypt tomorrow. No reason India shouldn’t have it very soon as well

  • Nikhil

Hello August 28th! No sign of the iPhone 3GS here yet! Meanwhile Thailand has launched it, but under trying circumstances. They got only 3500 handsets and can service only those who prebooked and chose their day to pickup as August 28th. What’s more? this applies to only people in Bangkok!
I am sorry, but i find that hilarious. Thankfully, we don’t have that situation here, imagine having pre-booked, and expected it to be in our palm today, and then being told…”nahin nahin… aaj nahin.. kal aana” :P , poor thai people.

Guys dis 1 is Awesome… i think its far much better dan Iphone 3gs… chk it…

nd who says nokia is stupid….. :x

    http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/

  • Anuj

    @joe
There are a total of four 3G spectrum blocks out of which one’s taken by BSNL & MTNL the remaining three will be auctioned within 95 days of confirming the base price of the auction. Now the base price was confirmed yesterday that is 27th aug 2009 .. which is 3500 crore per spectrum .. he he this is the base price .. and the government predicts the total revenue (the winning bid) will generate 20000 crore from all four. that is winning amount will be somewhere around 5000 crore per spectrum. MTNL & BSNL will have to pay that much amount to retain their spectrum. If 3GS launches in India now it either will be as flop as its predecessor’s launch or WORSE .. it cant get better .. BUT if iPhone 3gs is launched with 3G sevices .. (I wont say hit) it will fair much better than iPhone 3g

  • Tarun
  • Anuj

the auction’s deadline is within 95 days from yesterday that is before november end .. this does not necessarily mean that it will happen on the 95th day .. i assume it’ll happen within 60 days .. and the auction date is the only clue to 3gs launch coz airtel is pretty confident about winning (don no bout vodafone) .. they simply have to officially win so that they can tell us ‘be 3G ready with iPhone 3GS’ and we can expect 3G services coming by feb or mar 2010 but 3GS launch immediately after auction

  • rishi

i finally hav it 16 gb white n its great nokia n97 sucks if u compare them.

  • ankit

i dont think the iphone 3GS launch has to do any thing with the 3G services launch.Even if they launch the iphone 3GS now people who want the iphone without 3G services are going to buy it now and the question about the people who think it is stupid to buy the iphone 3GS without the 3G service can buy the iphone when the 3G services are launched.I dont think that launching the iphone 3GS with the 3G services after 2-3 months is a good idea or that the iphone 3GS will become a super hit if it launches with 3G services.Launching it late will only make it worse.People waiting for the iphone 3GS who are truly interested might end up buying a different mobile like the N97 or the HTC HERO or might even end up buying the iphone 3GS from the grey markets which definitely isn’t good news for Apple as all this is just killing the demand for the iphone 3GS in India.

AND THEN THEY SAY iPhone didn’t do well in India…I dont know how these companies became big but please brush up on your ECONOMICS.

  • Nikhil joshi

according to my friend who owns airtel gallery iphone 3gs might launch on mid oct .

  • Anuj

    @rishi
how much did u pay for it

  • Kaushal

Got sick of waiting endlessly for it. And the final nail in the coffin was update on apple website that Airtel is no longer going to sell unlocked iphone.

I got myself an 32 GB iPhone 3GS from Alfa (grey market)

  • Maulik

@ above how much did u paid for it??

  • Nikhil joshi

@Kaushal how much they charged u for the 32gb.. and was the handset plastic packed

n900 is too good .. i am a die hard iphone fan but a device like this is actually changing my preferences .. this one thing about n900 is confusing me:

Up to 1GB of application memory (256 MB RAM, 768 MB virtual memory)

  • IncredibleInsider

    Ok, the juice is…

The iphone 3gs hasn’t been launched in India because of overheating issues.

Apple knows of the issue, but it isnt a major problem in europe and america because the weather is cooler…

India is just too hot to risk it… It’s easier to blame the carrier than to deal with warranty issues or (shudder) admit the product has a problem.

It’ll launch once they quietly fix the issue in production.

    Dont ask how or when.

  • Bron

Hi guys, Ive been following this blog for quite some time now.
Now that I know that the iPhone 3GS will be releasing in mid Oct, should I wait for it or just go to Alfa and buy it?
Wanna know if I’ll have any probs after buying it from that place

  • wasim

bron hi its nothing wrong buying it from grey infact i have sold around 39 pieces yet no issue in any one if u wanna buy in mumbai u can contact me 9022977334 i have my shop in mumbai we even unlock and download them

  • Nikhil joshi

@IncredibleInsider pls stop flooding this post..

if u want 1 year gprs free and warranty wait… or buy from alpha or heera panna.. remember oct is not the official launch date.. it can get more delayed

  • Harneet

Still waitin on the damn thing. Jaldi launch karo yaar, bore ho gaye koi nayi cheez ke bina.

@ Incredbleinsider So, did they also stop selling the phone in Cali? Cause it’s pretty much the same weather there. They should launch it in Himachal, they won’t have over heating issues. Main Shimla ki agli trip mein khareed laaoonga.

Aur kisi ko chaaheye phone Shimla se? Main thop mein le aaoonga lol. No offense Incredible.

But seriously, If this isn’t launching by diwali(Hols, I go back home to The U.S., then :D ), I’ll buy it from there. My 3g fell in beer last tuesday and never came back on, using my 1st gen with a cracked screen from sitting on it.

Please alunch it by diwali, Vodafone, please? Pretty please with cake and frosting on top? :)

  • mithun

The launch date has not yet come… but surely the Iphone 3GS has arrived…. the phones are there with airtel and vodafone….wont get it till the official launch

  • rishi

    @anuj
i paid 36k for it and its worth it.

  • Gaurav V

I know many people who bought iPhone from grey market, some had problems and some are very happy with it. Its so unpredictable if you buy from grey market. But offers from grey market are no doubt very attractive.
especially, when no one is clear about original iPhone launch, many people are running out of patience.

I know some people who buy iPhone fron ebay (US) and then ask their friends returning from US to bring along the iPhone. One of my friend got a 3G for Rs.16000 this way. And he is very happpy with it, even if its second hand.

  • Anuj

    @grey market buyers
go ahead buy it .. the wait for the official launch seems endless … and please there is no certainty of the launch even in mid october coz the people who say mid october are the same people who’ve been saying aug 9,21,28 all this while. but the least that you can do when going for the grey market purchase is getting it officially unlocked. DO THAT!! coz getting it unlocked by other means (jailbreaking) will restrict you from the firmware updates that apple usually comes out once in 1.5 months .. you can update your firmware with unofficial unlock but here are the conditions:
    1. you need the original sim of the fone (at&t or whatever carrier it belongs to)
    2. you have to wait for the dev team to release the unlock for the new firmware (you cannot upgrade the fone the same day the firmware releases)
    3. you have to have the knowledge of unlocking else you pay 1000 bucks for every time u wish to unlock

and here are the disadvantages of unofficial unlock (apart from firmware updates):
    1. you cannot use the restore feature for your iPhone (something similar to ‘restore to factory settings)
    2. network issues (rare but does exist)
    3. if you accidentally upgrade (millions of people do that)there is a new feature added to your fone … the ‘paper weight’ feature it can be used only for that (until dev team strikes)

there are many sellers claiming the phone to be officially unlocked so how do u know if they are saying the truth??
ans: just check if cydia is installed .. if it is then it is ‘daal mein kaala’

go grey but with official unlock

Till then, if you have any further queries feel free to call us on 111 (toll free) and we’ll be happy to help.

    Visit http://www.vodafone.in

This is an auto-generated email. Please do not reply directly to this email.

i recvd this mail from vodafone last year … just look at the date .. which means that they had started prebooking 60 days in advance of the launch date (22nd august)

    @mithun
when you use the word ‘sure’ you should write something justifying your statement something like ‘I was the captain of the ship which was shipping the 3GS’s’ or ‘I personally delivered it to airtel & vodafone’ or ‘I am the CEO of airtel/vodafone’ .. this is not to offend you but c’mon this thing has already been discussed before

  • Tenzing

But how do you officially unlock the iphone 3gs bought from the grey market ?

  • Nikhil joshi

@wasim i will like to buy the handset from u only if its plastic packed not opened at all.. i will unlock it my self.. i will buy it right away if u can provide me a sealed plastic packed iphone

  • jatin

i had written to an apple official n he replied that presently there is no plan of releasing the iphone 3gs in india…according to them the product is under some modifications and will be available in india only after evrythin is done tested approved…
i dunno how long we would have to wait
btw do u know when will the n900 be launched?
no matter where i just wanna know when will it be launched?
    thanx!
    cheers

  • Aaron Lee

Man Apple missed out on a LOT of sales. So now when it releases here again, 70% must have already got theirs from the grey market. Then again the sales will be very poor, and then again apple will have thoughts about even promoting any apple product in india.

  • rishi

unofficial unlocked is no prom i hav been jailbreaking for a year now its easy n fast.just hav 2 no rite way

  • Vishu

what is the grey market price of 3gs 16GB….in delhi…any ideas?…also can you guys suggest me if i should buy the 3G 8GB from airtel or 3GS 16GB from grey…the only thing that makes me wanna buy from airtel is the warranty…& 3G is fine with me as i can live without the extra speed/better camera thingy…

  • Anuj

    @tenzing
you cannot officially unlock the grey market phone

@Vishu – DITTO… that is what even I am thinking .. I am soo damn frustrated with this wait now… complete August has gone… and I can’t wait any more longer for it…

and moreover the 3G phones are also being sold like hot cakes right now… stores are running out of stock for them…

    km

  • RM

I have asked apple store imagine (Mumbai) regarding the launch date, they said September last week.

  • km

Delhi Grey market price for 3GS

    16 GB – 37.5k
    32GB – 42.5k

and the guy told me the phone wouldn’t be sealed pack and it would work fine until and unless you upgrade it, which I guess we all know…

for me its worthless to buy it.. I might be going for Omnia HD or N97 …

    RIP Apple 3GS

    km

  • Vishu

@km yea i’m frustrated as hell because of all this delay going on, well at my place the 3G(both models) are readily available but this situation — “what if I buy the 3G today & the 3GS launches within a week?” is killing me…. :( …those little perks like the oleophobic screen / volume control on handsfree etc are attracting me more towards the 3GS :P , but sadly the exact launch date is unknown :( …anyways, i think i’m gonna wait for an announcement till 1st sep.(i.e. one more day) & if nothing happens i shall go ahead & buy the 3G 8GB….maybe those apps will help covering some distance between the 3G & 3GS :P ….lastly, one thing i want to share with you guys….i have NEVER ever waited so long for anything…especially a mobile phone :P

  • doj

lets pray they lauch iphone 3gs all of a sudden like a surprise launch.else they will loose customers day by day.Is there oneone in siliguri or kolkatta selling iphone 3gs 8gb in grey market….please call 9775997698.

    @Vishu – again DITTO… m too having the same feelings man… just hate this…

m trying hard to make up my mind for Omnia HD or N97 but if I think of iPhone hell I broke loose n go towards it… damn this is so damn killing…

but Vishu i guess if the 3GS doesn’t launches, I guess going for 3G isn’t a bad option coz wat we want is the iPhone which we are getting it a bit of speed here and there wouldn’t really matter and the added features wouldn’t matter to me atleast, if it does then I wud prefer to go for the Omnia HD which is far way better..

But tell me something more Vishu… I feel the iPhone 3G currently in stock with anyone is an year old stock right??? and on a slightest chance if it gets some problem are the Vodafone/Airtel people actually gonna take care of it… I doubt it now.. What you say???

  • rAg

I just got a used 3g iphone from a guy i know.. he gave it for 21k for a 16gb 3g iphone in good condition.. thats a far better choice than omnia HD and all..

anyways dont think that 3gs is only about a bit of speed improvement guys.. that speed matters a lot.. i have used 3gs for almost 2 weeks and its damn too fast than 3g iphone and that can be easily felt when u use it… but the only thing am concerned about is that if its really worth spending that extra bucks to upgrade from 3g to 3gs..

  • rohil

  • Nidz

guys don’t get ur hopes high this is not an official announcement it’s just another person spreading a rumour… :(

  • Shivam

i gave up yest .. got the 3GS from the grey market dnt regret it !!

  • shailendra

ok…thats it ..i just bought a new mobile phone …Apple / vodafone you just lost a customer for not being accountable for launch in August 2009….and dont care if you launch it or not .

  • Vishu

@km i think it doesn’t matter if the stock is old or new, if you buy it from airtel you are given 1 yr. warranty from the date of purchase no matter what the mfg. date of the phone is, they won’t cancel your warranty even if they stop selling it, think of the ppl who bought it 6 months ago, they are still eligible for 6 more months of warranty period with no concern to whether airtel still sells the iphone or not….

  • anonymous

    @anuj and nikhil
just cause the news is on big sites doesnt mean its right if one person makes up something and everyone wants to believe it it becomes true lol dont waste ur times i think people should just wait for the official dates to come out think that would make more sense then to speculate.. everyone can think of something else to talk about in the mean time :-)

  • hrishikesh

i will be getting n900 for sure.
    its releasing in october end.

  • http://www.propertywala.com/ASP/proxy.asp?u=http://www.propertywala.com/ Saurabh

I just bought a iPhone 3GS 32GB officially unlocked/factory sealed for $800 from eBay. Do you think it was a good deal?

  • IncredibleInsider

Hey Nikhil and Harneet… Want me to say – I told you so.

It’s fun when you actually tell people something you know, and they dont believe you..

    Like….
    Me: The Earth is flat…
    You: No it isn’t..!
Me: :-) have it your way…

Im not going to prove myself or provide more facts as that would risk the source. Believe it, or have it your way.

Or maybe i’m just making all this up…

PS: hope you saw mithuns post on the other article about the indefinite postponement.

  • maniz

    yippppiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    i got my 3GS from alpha…..

nd guys it wil not gonna launch dis nd next whole month… :)

  • ankit

    @maniz

hey congrats dude on your iphone purchase…which one did you get 16 or 32GB and black or white and how much is the cost for both 16 and 32GB at alfa?.was the iphone boxed or open? and is it already jailbroken by them?

  • Vishu

well, I guess I should go for the iphone 3G from airtel…cuz there’s still no confirmation on any carrier’s part..:( …i guess i’d like the 3g as well ..as i’m gonna be a first time iphone user…:D

  • sandeep

so guys we all have finally give up now we cannot wait for this iphone to be officially launched the news of 19th september is als totally false.i dont think it will be launched this year cause no channels are also talking about this ; and i personally think grey market is not a better idea.

  • maniz

    @ ankit

i bought 16 gb black nd it was sealed pack nd i did jailbrake n unlock it by my own….

  • ankit

    @ maniz

dude can you help me with the price of the 16GB and the 32GB at alfa?

  • km

    @Vishu

same here mate.. I am also planning to buy the iPhone 3G next week… I do not wish to go for the grey market deal at all…

    dunno y the heck 3GS isn’t coming here…

    km

  • Jigar

Ok… the people who bought the iPhone 3GS from Alfa (grey market)… Tell me… will the Vodafone “Postpaid data plans for iPhone” (NOT Talk plans… Data Plans)(LINK:http://www.vodafone.in/existingusers/products/pages/iphone3gtalkplans.aspx?cid=del) work on the jailbreak/unlocked iPhone 3GS if we subscribe for it separetely? I’d like to know because I am a Vodafone user.

I think the Data Plans provide a much faster internet browsing speed than the normal GPRS available on other mobile phones. Not sure about this though.

P.S.: VODAFONE if you are reading this… I am a privileged customer (10 whole years!!). Stop sending me those f****d up discount coupons/booklets of restaurants & resorts and give me something useful… like a discount on iPhones!!!

  • Raj

    10days back wen i went to alfa, 16gb ws 36k or 37, 32gb ws around 44k or 42, i dnt remember,

  • Anuj

    @jigar
if you can activate that plan then definitely u can enjoy its benefits its nothing to do with jailbreak/unlocked, and NO the speed does not differ, Data Plans or No Data Plans gives you the same speed, the speed u get on your iPhone will be of ‘Edge’, Edge in layman’s term can be described as ‘fast GPRS’ or GPRSx4 times

  • kkd

hey i jus got a 16 gb iphone from alfa..well it works fine wid vodafone n airtel but has issues workin with loop.. does loop hav carrier issues with the new iphone or if i can do nything to fix the problem..plz lemme kno..thanks

  • Anuj
  • http://yahoo Vijay yadav

    i am waiting …

  • Vishu

i went to buy the 3G 8GB today from airtel as i cudn’t wait any longer for the 3gs but cudn’t find a single handset either in C.P.(Delhi) airtel showrooms or in ghaziabad, everyone had a common answer for me “3gs is soon coming so we shipped back the 3G models” but they cudn’t tell me an exact date of the launch either, though they have promised to get a 3G 8gb for me till this friday…let’s see what happens…though i’m no more that much interested in 3GS…i’ll pick up any iphone i get, be it 3G or 3GS.

  • Ravi

Any feedback on Samsung Omnia HD i8910…? Now, I am considering this one to buy..

  • LALITKUMAR

DONT TOU CHECK THAT WHAT DATE YOU HAVE GIVEN LAUNCH DELAY DATE TODAY’S DATE IS 09-09-09 AND YOU ARE STILL IN PAST AUGUST

  • Nitish

    @ Vishu :
What is the price of the 3G 8GB in the airtel store you checked?

  • Bron

IMO Samsung Omnia HD i8910 takes the cake. Im going to buy it tomorrow ;)

  • Vishu

    @Nitish:
In ghaziabad they are quoting 31,600/- which is a wee bit higher than the MRP which is i think 31,000/- …they said that they can get me a set from noida within 5-6 hrs, i’m personally thinking to buy it directly from noida itself but i dunno the location etc of the store there or whatever their source is…all in all…i may be getting a 3G 8GB tomorrow…after that this looong wait is gonna be over for me atleast :P …i.e. a guy who is satisfied from what the 3G offers. xP

  • Ashish

OS 3.1 is out no major changes except for a few tweeks… but i am hoping for an indian launch soon now..

  • Vishu

ok..the airtel guys finalized the price to 31k, well i think i cud’ve negotiated a bit more but i wasn’t in the right mood :P , cuz i’m totally frustrated on this iphone topic now & want to end it asap for myself, so i’m leaving in a few minutes to get a 8GB 3G, admist all this fuss goin on for the 3GS, my decision of buying the 3G may not be completely correct, but i just can’t take it anymore & besides,.. I personally think that the 3G will live up to my expectations as i’m currently using a N73.

  • Maniz

  • shailendra

APPLE ..you really suck in marketing skills . get a MBA or hire better employees.

  • http://www.propertywala.com Saurabh

@shailendra: Not trying to be rude, but if you say that in a US forum people will laugh at you. Marketing is one thing they most definitely don’t suck at, infact they are marketing geniuses. The problem is they don’t understand markets outside of US (especially non-western) nor they are putting much effort in trying to understand them.

Guys, my friend’s selling a legally unlocked 8gig black iPhone he purchased in November last year from Vodafone. He shot an email to customer care that he’s going back home to The U.S. in december and got it legally unlocked from Vodafone itself, within the next four hours lol. He wants to sell it now and there’s like, two months or so of warranty on it, still. What’s the best price he’ll get for it, because he says that a legally unlocked phone with a warranty of an Indian carrier(albeit two months) will fetch him a nice offer. What do you guys think?

  • Nidz

  • Nikhil

I think the author should use the facility of blocking certain comments, that are meaningless and completely contrary to his article.

or does he just want to gather as many comments as possible?

as far as the iPhone 3GS goes, too many un-official dates. every Thursday i feel it will come the next day, and then when it doesn’t i feel it will come the following week :(

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish

@Nikhil Good point ! But we already take care of not posting meaningless comments

  • Naveen

Hey Guys, feeling bad for you all. Forget iphone 3gs launch date, you are gonna be frustrated. Why not try to buy it from a country where factory unlocked are sold like Australia, HK, Singapore,Dubai, Belgium etc .Check apple website for countries where they sell unlocked. Dont forget to buy apple protection plan if u do so because your normal iphone warranty works only in the country of purchase but with APP you can repair it in any country for free for 2 years.

Or go for other smart phone like HTC hero.(It had some lag earlier, now the new update makes it as fast as 3Gs).

@fonearena: what’s that tweet about date coming closer… asking or telling? and if asking… asking whom?

“FoneArena iphone 3gs launch date getting closer in india ?
about 11 hours ago from web”

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish

    @Nikhil

It was indeed a open question as i got some unconfirmed reports about diwali launch.

  • Raj Hardia

I don’t think we’re gonna have the launch anytime too soon. 3G was just not so profitable. It didn’t sell well enough. Better to wait for 4th gen which is rumoured to have a 1ghz processor and a 5mp camera.

  • Pradeep

Maninder Kohli – Do you have any such store in Bangalore ? Coz- I am a big fan of iPhone.

  • iPhone 3GS

If I get a 3GS from HK, will it work here? Because in some site it has been written that a few places like Hong Kong are selling officially/factory unlocked iPhones? Is this true and will it work on Vodafone in India? Are there any disadvantages in getting it from HK?

  • Sapam

“iPhone 3GS” you can get iPhone from HK. Its officially unlocked phone from apple and will work with any Carrier.

  • Nikhil

@iPhone 3GS: I am fairly certain it will work, they are unlocked for sure, and are sold without contract via the Apple (HK) online store.

What you will have to do is activate it from itunes.According to me, maximum you will need is to activate it in itunes HK, and not india. This can be changed within itunes it self. Even the need to do that is suspect.

Disadvantages: duty( i dont know how much), you need someone to buy it from the online store in HK, coz they don’t deliver outside HK and send it to you, and warranty. If by chance that piece is damaged, nothing you can do except send it back to the person who bought it for you in HK.

If you do know someone LIVING in HK and not just visiting, who can buy it for you, nothing like it. Activation also can be done there, and in case of defects, you can send it back to them for HK warranty :)

I have read somewhere that taking the apple care plan(for 3 years @ extra money) gives you international warranty. Not sure about it, do some more research.

    All the best. :)

  • iPhone 3GS

@Nikhil. Thanks for the info. What do you mean that I would have to activate it from iTunes HK and not India? Also, if I know anyone who is visiting HK but not residing there, can they buy it?

    Thanks for all the info!

  • Naveen

Apple care for iphone is 2 years approximate Rs.4k. When you buy the iphone at HK, Aust etc you can buy it along with it in the same order and it will be auto tagged to your iphone. The 3yrs you are mentioning is for MAC.

It gives you international warranty for 2 years

  • Nikhil

Thanks naveen for clearing that up.
    @ iPhone 3GS:

Any iPhone you buy needs to be activated through iTunes, regardless where you buy it from. Either you do it, or the seller does it.

Buying from an online store means the buyer will have to activate it. Now what i am saying is only my suspicion, i am not sure, but if you buy it from the HongKong store, you might need to activate it by setting your iTunes store (in the iTunes application) to show the HongKong store.

To further elucidate what i am trying to say, each country has an iTunes store. Our’s offers only apps, whereas US and other have music, movies audiobooks, podcasts etc. Similarly there is a HK store. Let me reiterate, i have never activated the iPhone before, so i can’t say for sure. Maybe someone who has can explain better.

To the second part of your question- the person who buys the iPhone from HK is your mediator(between the store and you). Let’s say for sake of argument your misfortune takes a front seat and gets you the one defective piece. You are entitled to a replacement. Now, if that mediator is in HK then you can send it back to him and have them give you a new one.

If that mediator is visiting, and comes back with your phone, who will you send it to in case of a problem?

and i guess a person visiting HK can buy it, i suppose they must only have a valid billing address.

Just my thoughts on the issue.

  • Manii!!!!

    hi Pradeep, maninder here.

Iphone 3GS 16 GB Black unlocked in box at this time is only available in delhi. Yesterday, i went to Vaishno Electronics and i saw the phone. It was looking amazing, i must say a great masterpiece created by the human.

You can also confirm the availblity of this phone by contacting Vaishno Electronics.

If you want that phone, then you need to come to delhi. In case your any relative is living in delhi, then you can get this phone via courier service…

  • Manii!!!!

and pradeep, the phone is available at the price of 41,000/ with bill with one year of International warranty, so if you can spend 41,000/ thousand, then please visit the shop and buy your dream phone.

Also, I have one more news, the unlimited web browsing 98/Rs recharge voucher of Aircel is applicable with iPhone. So, you can access all the services of iPhone 3GS with the 98/rs recharge voucher of Aircel or 95/Rs recharge voucher of Airtel

  • Chilliwho

I believe that the main reason for the delay is the bad performance by both the telecom operators in India in selling the iPhone 3g..They still have a huge inventory of the 40,000 or so pieces that they had initially ordered. They are trying to dump the same in other countries like Srilanka where they operate (as proved by the article in Telegraph website). I think its either the telecom operators or Apple who is not willing to launch 3gs in India till the old inventory is sold. Till then, wait and watch :)

  • Raju

I live in dubai and nowhere iphone 3GS is officially available. Cracked iphone 3gs are available in the market for AED 4000.

Unlocked iphone 3g is available officially from etisalt from AED 2205 which comes with a minimum of 12 months contract which costs AED 199 additionally.

i know a place in dubai where u can get factory unlocked iphone 3gs @3500dhs

  • mathen

I have been using iphone 3gs for last few days and am really happy with it, i got it for 40000 jailbroken and unlocked, from mumbai (alfa) with all other accessories in brand new condition, phone was also in brand new condition…..i urge all iphone lovers once again,NOT to wait for official launch,it probably will be 3.1 firmware which you wont b able unlock in near future, sometimes NOT even jaibreakable…iphone with no jailbreak is jus as good as old nokia 1100…

  • Joffin

    @yogesh

Please tell me the shop address in dubai.

  • yogesh

@joffin here it is STORE NAME ‘SHEEBA’ IN BURDUBAI, MEENA BAZAR……..my frend from dubai told me pls verify and give ur feedback

  • Amit Parmar

i have visited the airtel store in faridabad & they have published the huge banner of iphone 3gs in which it is written that iphone 3gs is coming soon by airtel,i got confirmed from store manager & he confirmed that iphone will be avilable from diwali on all airtel stores across india & will launch in 3-4 days i.e. in first week of october,he has not confirmed the price. This is confirmed news not any rumours or fake report.cheers for all iphone fans.

  • Varun

    Hi Navin,

Just wondering can i activate the officially unlocked iphone3gs from HK in India without probelm?

    secondly,
Will firmware update brick my phone for any reason (logically shudnt but read of cases on the net where apparently official unlocked phones got bricked!)

    Thanks

  • Yogesh

Hi guys, i had some conversations with an airtel customer care executive and got the information that iphone3GS is going to be launch in india after diwali (locked for airtel), he informed with bit strange information that it will be 3GS with 8 GB version, and price will be around RS. 19XXX
He was sure that it is iphone 3GS and 8 GB version.

Lets see what happens after diwali and this information is completely true or not.

  • Sam

Apple i phone 3Gs launch in india is meaningless.
The 3G auction of spectrum is scheduled only in DEC 2009.
After it is done Airtel and Vodafone will launch the i phone.
Dont waste your hard earned money for a 3Gs phone which will presently work on 2G network.
Have patience let the 3G network be put in place by Airtel/Vodafone/Aircell/Tatadocom etc….. and they invest your hard earned money.

  • S mehta

The iphone 3gs is not available in Belgium, where the laws states that the phones cannot be locked to a supplier. Meaning you get to buy unlocked phones.
Apparently there is a few months waiting list, I just went to the store and they informed me so.

If this is the situation in the 1st world countries then India would be far down the ladder.

Cannot seem to get my hands on an iphone 3gs.

  • iPhone 3GS

    Hey Guys,
I will be on a trip to Dubai soon. Is there any place you guys know of that sells the Officially / Factory Unlocked iPhone 3GS? Please do give me any information and if it is safe to buy it from there.

    Thanks

  • Anonymous

My Dear Yogesh apple is not making any any iphone 3gs 8gb version how the hell did airtel have a 8gb version of 3gs then when even there is no such version of 3gs in america or any other part of the world

  • tony

can i get a factory unlocked iphone 3gs from singapore plz do reply

  • tony

countries which sell factory unlocked iphone 3gs

  • Nikhil

@tony: yes Singapore has Factory unlocked iPhones. But you need to buy a contract from Singtel, without which they wont sell it to you.
There are countries that sell it without contract and are unlocked. Hong Kong(apple Online store), Italy are 2 such nations.

There are MANY sites that give the link for the list of countries with the iPhone and where they are unlocked. Please do some research as well.

  • http://www.hotmail.com Fayaz

Saudi Arabia has unlocked iphones but 3gs yet to arrive here

iphone 3g 8gb is 2,400.- Riyal, in indian rupees its 30,000.- rupees

3gs ———–Hopefully 2nd week of october it will be available here

  • sid

I went to the airtel office in new delhi and enquired about the iphone 3gs.They said that its no way coming before the end of november.I hate that am writing this down.

  • varun

i talked to an airtel official he said that the iphone 3gs will be launched anytime in october for sur he did not disclose any price but i think it will be the same as the iphone 3g price in india

  • varun

    sorry sid but ur wrong

  • sandeep

dear amit parmar as far as we know there is no such store in faridabad who has these banners so pls. provide some real stuff as we are all iphone lovers and want to buy it officially

  • sid

    @ varun
i hope i am wrong. What we have to understand is that none of the executives know as to when the launch would be ?i have asked many of them some say next year, some are like before/after diwali and some say that the launch is in November.God only knows when the launch is? Damn Indian companies.

  • http://Www.proTLH.com Aron

@varun – author of this post

good to see that ur website is optimised for mobile. But right now on my iPhone the share links are jumbled up. Would be great if you do customize for iPhone like gamespot or ign etc as there would be many like me reading the comments of this post hoping 3gs launch is released soon

for me, my iPhone 2g hav kept me busy for the last 2yrs n hence didn’t jump for a grey 3gS. AppStore n cydia just makes my phone feel new every day. Add the numerous cracked apps available I don’t find a compeling reason to buy 3gS on the grey at 40k levels

I hope many viewers out here share the same opinion.

My bit to the speculation on launch date, well it would come only after 3g services are fullswing n after apple vs Vodafone vs airtel bargaining is over.

Apple knows that it has a very small niche market in India which won’t go anywhere else, no great handset is coming soon to eat into that market. Hence they are taking it slow n avoiding the 2008 situation.
So this time they may even go carrier free and pitch it as a premium lifestyle product along with iPod and macs via croma n apple stores

I don’t mind waiting till the end game plays out as long as my ist gen iPhone is working.

I must say, especially to people focusing on neg of iPhone that I brought this in aug 07 n till date I m happy. I use it so much that I end up with bills for above 600mb edge usage per month. Add that to the amount of games n videos I play, you can assess my usage. Still like a miracle, no parts of the phone has shown signs of aging. The screen is still scratch free, body still shining n battery still giving me the same hrs I used to get in 07. my experiences with SE n Nokia hvnt been the same. Barring a few dents (due to falls from table level heights) and scratches on behind everything looks n feels new. Well the handsfree wore of in 9 months though

it seems to be a perfect design to use and to build. No wonder apple stuck to the same design even after the design being around for 2yrs

other part to thank apple are for they are considerate to existing customers. I don’t think any other company provides meaningful firmware upgrades to models that are 2 yrs old n here apple makes us users feel cared for. Other companies force us to change models to get even new features possible through software

everybody out here who has n iPhone will agree with most of what my views are. New users valuing money should first try a 2g or 3g befor going for 3gs as it can do most of wat 3gs can. N it might take some time for new guys to get used to iTunes syncing n readonly folder structure.

Guys who hate iPhone, well grapes are sour. I would suggest you spend some time with ur friends iPhone to get a fresh perspective

guys who owned n iPhone but hates it, I wonder how that’s possible. Only reason I find is lack of awareness n using technology ( local cell shop said most iPhones that come up for sale n exchange are by people who hv little knowledge abt technology n doesn’t hv access to computer, guys who buy just for show off)

oh this comment has become as big as the main post itself

  • hrishikesh

i guess someone mentioned about the 8GB 3G S to be made available in india n people were going mad after him. BUT TO BE TRUE, THERE IS AN 8GB VERSION IN THE MAKING WHICH WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING CHRISTMAS TIME . SO I GUESS THATS ALMOST NEXT YEAR FOR US IN INDIA.
@ARON – dude, even i have used an iphone 3G n i dont hate it. but its not like the best of all. rite now im using xperia x1 with opera mini 5 installed. let me tell u, it beats the safari anytime. its just awesome. n about making your iphone look new with cydia n stuff, grow up man. just changing wallpaers n installing new themes doesnt mean making a phone feel new. try the new SPB mobile shell for wimno n experience a whole new UI. there are more like it, the POINT UI, the WINTERFACE n many more. these things mke the phone feel new.
i agree apple’s UI is very smooth, but its not best in surfing. one more thing, about your usage going more than 600 MB on edge networks, thats coz safari doesnt compress the web data as the opera mini does with the same experience.

  • Maniz

    Hahahahahahaahahahaahha

    All ARE PATHETIC HERE !!

    SERIOUSLY ALL !!

  • http://Www.proTLH.com Aron

    @Rishikesh

I too was a SE fanboy. I admit that opera is impressive but the edge iPhone has is the no of websites that serve custom page for it like gmail, fb or gamespot

I did use xperia for a few days infact I was waiting for it just like the way I m now for 3gS

on cydia I m not talking abt fart apps n themes. I meant stuff like cyntact, blacklist mxtube etc or AppStore stuff like bloomberg n Reuters n fedex or paid apps like flightstats n RTM .. It’s made work easy for me … I m imprressed abt the no of business apps n webapps available not the fart apps:))

on data, yes it’s because pages r loaded in full if n optimised version is not available n also because emails are loaded in full HTML
not to mention my crazy act of downloading vdos from utube using iPhone instead of broadband… I know it’s stupid but I still do at time

xperia was a worthy contender n hope the nxt version really pose a full challenge.

  • http://Www.proTLH.com Aron

    Anyone tried omnia HD ?

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun Krish
  • hrishikesh

@ aaron – the omnia hd cant replace our music player..i mean we need to carry a separate ipod for listening music as the aidio quality isnt comparable to a high end multimedia phone. btw the sony ericsson aino has been released in india i guess for 27,000/- that may be a good multimedia phone

  • Ryu

I am sick of waiting since June 9th for the announcement and I have decided to buy the iPhone form Alfa in Irla, Mumbai.

Can anybody please tell me if it is worth the risk..Is there anybody who has had major issues after buying from there?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Peace!

  • sid

buying the iphone at this stage wont be a wise decision.I have been waiting for it since 9th june too and over the period I have relaised that it ain’t favorable to buy it..reasons are

1.In the next 6 mnths a new iphone would be launched with a far better performance.( probably a one with the 1ghz cpu as arm cortex cpus(samsung)and the recently launched quaclomm snapdragon 1ghz are readily available in the market(have a look at htc hd 2).Cpu’s in mobiles would go upto 1.5ghz in no time..Snapdragons 1.3ghz has also been launched.Till now arm was the only cpu powering mobiles but now the qualcomm is also making up its pace powering acer as well.So the technology u buy wont be future proof for even a year.

2.Secondly iphone 3gs reports overheating issues and battery problems(google it) abroad in summers and their the max temp is 30-35 degrees Celsius.Whereas in india its 42-45 in summers. So would u really risk 40k on a phone without warranty or at least a genuine certification?

    3. The technology is old and new things are in the market to look out for.Far better phones better than the iphone( i could never imagine that i will write this) but times have changed and better technology has emerged.

Its upto you to decide..visit the site gsmarena.com for detailed reviews and future launches.

  • Anonymous

sid get a life… first you get a iphone 3gs and then talk.

  • Akshay

I’ve been following this thread like a maniac and i’ve 2 come to the same conclusion as sid….

The issues of that are really fuckin up wid my head are…..

1 – Overheating – This is a really critical problem because the environmental conditions in our country are also hot, which could aggrevate the problem…

2 – Poor battery performance – Another major concern for a person like me who is a music maniac…

3 – A more warmer screen – Actually this is to do with the colors in the screen which appear to be really yellowish as compared to my old 2G and a little to the 3G….this is matter to personal choice but i really like the whitish touch…

4 – An underclocked processor – This is the typical apple now….the processing unit by samsung installed in the 3GS has been underclocked to 600Mhz which has a capacity to run at speeds upto 800Mhz….Could be to increase the battery life but it doesnt seem to benefit from it a lot….

Also this processor is capable of plaing HD content lagfree but again this powerfull processor hasn’t completely been tapped to its potential…but apple freaks / fans would be used to this kind of TYPICAL APPLISH BEHAVIOUR….. :) )

5 – Same look new feel – Now i was really anticipating a new looking iphone with a claasy aluminium touch to it just like the 2G….This plastic body has had many complaints about cracking etc….

    6 – Camera – Cummon give me a break …a 3mp autofocus camera whoaaaa……at this time atleast they must have installed a 5mp unit….

Nowadays the competition in the market is excessive…i really mean excessive the nokias ,sonys, palm, htc are just pouring phones into the market as if they really believe everythings gonna end in 2012….

Nyways the only there are still many reasons for me to LOOOVVE Apple and the major onr is that ” They are very innovative and built their own hardware for their really aweesome software “…
    .

Quote ” iPhone 2G was the one that Revolutionized the phone ” ….

Nyways the other phone that i’m really looking forward to is E55 to hit the indian market…..

    E55 = Classy + functionality

  • sid

mr Anonymous i already have the iphone 3g.had a 2g before.but the point is u need to move on with the changing times. So mr Anonymous u get a life if nt anything be confident or have the guts enuf to at least use ur own name.have a look at the htc touch hd2 and compare the iphone, you will then know what i am talking about.

  • Anuj

  • andy

@ ANUJ HOW DUMB U R… HOW ANY PERSON BUY IPHONE WITH 3.1 WHICH IS UNLOCKBLE… PLS GUYS DONT BUY IT

  • Suraj Gidwani

i think it was a great deal. have u received it yet ? was the source relaible ?
i think i might go in for the same

  • Suraj Gidwani

    HI navin
thanks for the info. just a few doubts.
if i buy the officially unlocked handset from hk, do i have to the buy the app from there as well ?
if i buy the app from mumbai will my phone be covered for 2 years internationally ??

  • Suraj Gidwani

    what about vodafone ??
will it be locked or unlocked ?
and will it be available also in chroma unlocked ? i hard that might be the case

  • Suraj Gidwani

    hi sam
well i am currently using a 3g sim card from mtnl.
its the mtnl 3 g jadoo pland and download speeds i get out amazing upto 0.5 Mbps. i am currently using it with the nokia e71. i am sure with the iphone 3 gs it will be much more fun to use.

so i dont think anything wrong in buying the iphone 3gs and enjoying it with a 3g plan which is now available in mumbai as well as delhi

  • Suraj Gidwani

my friend has just left for singapore last night
i told her to find out she has yet to get back to me.
lets see what info she gathers, will let u know asap.

  • Kunal

    Hi

I went to Alfa at Irla in Mumbai to buy the Iphone 3GS instead of getting from Australia or hongkong. They said no gaurantee or warranty would be provided as it would be without bill and they would accept only cash and no cards. 16gb was at 39.5k and 32gb was at 45k.

Can anyone tell me if i buy an unlocked iphone 3gs from Australia/HK would i get the warranty or gaurantee whichever is applicable because i cannot take a risk to buy an Iphone without a warranty. you never know your badluck.

One more thing these people said they are not expecting iphone 3gs to release in india anytime before end of november due to shortage of stocks in existing markets for apple.

    Regards,
    Kunal Panchal

  • Kunal

Its not worth the risk!!! No gaurantee and no warranty. what would you do if your phone does not work properly?

  • Suraj Gidwani

Kunal i beleive iphone is the pnly apple product which has a country specific warranty plan. so no matter where u buy your phone from the warranty will be only in that country even if it is bought from hk and aus.

so we have no option but to take the risk

  • iPhone 3GS

I would suggest that you dont buy the iPhone 3GS from Alpha. Instead, do what I am doing. If you know anyone or are willing to pay customs for you iPhone (I suggest to ask someone to get it for you). These countries offer unlocked iPhones:
    Australia
    Belgium
    Hong Kong
and in Meena Bazar, Dubai, you will find an official iPhone 3GS.

If you are getting your iPhone from HK or Australia, get your iPhone with the Apple Care pack for the iPhone which offers 2 years overseas warranty for your iPhone.

    Best of Luck!

  • Suraj Gidwani

    hi,
i have carefully gone through the fine print of the apple protection plan and i dont see it being mentioned anywhere that the warranty is international.
infact i plan on doing exactly the same as you and purchase it from hong kong. can u please tell me how to verify that the apple protection plan covers an international warranty instead of a counrty specific one ?

  • Suraj Gidwani

infact please check this official link by apple
    question number 9

    http://www.apple.com/hk/en/support/products/faqs.html

What service options does the AppleCare Protection Plan offer?
Apple may provide service through one or more of the following options: carry-in service (to Apple Authorized Service Providers), and onsite service (for desktop computers). In Hong Kong, Applecare Protection Plan for iPhone customers will need to carry-in their iPhone to the carrier’s service center.

thats is really sad :-( (

however question number 8 makes it even more confusing

What does “global repair coverage” mean?
If you take your Apple hardware with you when you travel and happen to need repair service, the AppleCare Protection Plan offers global repair coverage. You can either go to an Apple retail store or contact Apple for information on how to obtain service. Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. Service options, parts availability, and response time vary according to country. Please see the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms and Conditions for complete details.

so ANYONE WHO HAS BOUGHT APP FROM HONG KONG DO THEY HAVE ANY IDEA???

  • Amit

guys wait if u r thinkin of gettin iphone from aus nz or hk
iphones though unlocked officially will not work outside respective country cos they are country locked as well

  • Anuj

    @Andy
“HOW ANY PERSON BUY IPHONE”#$@# Your grammar is too weak isn’t it?? Anyway .. if you read carefully you will know the price that I have quoted is way lesser than what you get elsewhere and that is b’coz its currently locked. If you know iPhone well then you would know that it really doesn’t take long for the dev team to come up with an unlock for the phone.

  • Suraj Gidwani

    this is not true.
i made a call to the apple store in hong kong and tey said it can be used anywhere in the world.
also i had a chat session with a cell provider called true move selling unlocked iphone 3gs in thailand .
they also told me that if it is factory unlocked it can be used in any part of the world

  • Satya

    Chill…
And your punctuation is too weak, isn’t it? “Your grammar is too weak isn’t it?? should be written as “Your grammar is too weak, isn’t it?

Any way just enjoy the blog and share information which you have rather than becoming an English teacher. No offence.

  • Avinash

    Hi All,
I have been following this post over the past few months and have gone through almost all the comments. Thanks a lot to all the guys who have posted here.i know that there have been a lot of rumours floating around but yeah the iphone 3GS has still not been launched here in India. So i decided to get mine from Australia as my relative stays there. He has already bought the phone and its a 16GB White that i had asked him to buy.It costs AUD $879,which will roughly work out to Rs36918(1 AUD = Rs 42 approx).Ishould get the phone by the end of this month as my relativeis flying down to India.Yeah its officially unlocked as the law in Australia doesnt permit them to lock the phone to any particular carrier. To buy the phone in Australia one needs to be a resident of Australia.
So guys start saving up and i think it would be a better deal if you know someone in hongkong as its cheaper than in Australia.
Will talk more on this after i lay my hands on it.I read many posts on the net and a lot of people told me if you buy the iphone from Australia,Hongkong,etc.. where you get officially unlocked iphones it works on any network all over the world and the best part is that you can upgrade the iphone OS as and when apple launches a new software upgrade without having to worry about it getting locked again.
It better work here in India on any network as i am spending quite a lot on this iphone.

  • andy

@anuj…Lets keep grammer aside and talk on iphone, i knw much more than u about iphone nd dev team and i had chat with musclenerd(to whom u may nt knwng)…He said they r trying to find latest BB EXPLOIT but as commands r very less it may take months(yr also) to find out new exploit for unlock… Regarding ur price, u r selling an iBRICK so, it doesnt matter at what price u r selling… And dont make money by fooling innocent iphone fans…leechers like u make money on gr8 dev teams unlock which is totally free… @ppl who r planing to buy iphone frm hk it will wrk in india but u will not get apple protection plan service in india i spoke to apple india cc

  • Suraj Gidwani

hey avinash i am sure it will work dont worry.
i am goin in for the same from hongkong.
but are you buying it from the apple online store in aus or from a carrier ?
the only drawback here is that the warranty will be vaild only in aus.

  • Kunal

Guys!!! I went to Imagine ( Shop selling Authorised Apple products) Inorbit mall malad mumbai.

They said Apple Iphone 3GS is not coming to India before February 2010. As apple has contract issues with vodafone and airtel that lasts 18 months from launch of Apple Iphone 3G. So if you count 18 months from August 22 2008 it comes to February 2010. So expect a huge delay on Iphone 3GS to launch in India.

Also..Vodafone would no longer sell Iphone 3GS to its india customers and only Airtel would be selling Iphone 3GS.

I pray all these are false news and may apple launch Iphone 3GS in India very soon round about Diwali time.

I found it too risky to buy an Iphone 3GS unlocked from Alfa (Mumbai) or HK/Australia. The international warranties are applicable on the hardware of apple licensed products only. For Software solutions you need to contact the respective country you buy from because you may need a replacement due unresolved software issue, which is the majority of the issue reported in Iphone 3GS. So you need to contact the authorised seller from the respective country.

Its not wise to buy the same in february as there are reports of launching new Iphone Nano by mid of next year.

Finally and sadly I give up on Apple Iphone 3GS. Sorry guys i am too disappointed after reading each and every posts and all the rumours that are floating. Even Apple has disappointed all Apple fans in India to provide any updates on launching of Apple Iphone 3GS in India.

    Regards,
    Kunal

  • Avinash

    @ Suraj

Good to know that you are getting it from Hongkong.
My relative has already bought it from the Apple Store at Sydney.

Yeah i know that the only drawback is that the Warranty will be valid only in Australia but am sure phones dont give any problem as long as we handle them with care atleast for a year. And even if it does am sure i can get it repaired from the iStore here in India by paying them.

  • Anuj

    @Andy
Arrey tu khush rehai yaar .. tu iPhone ko dev team se bhi achha jaanta hai .. Aur musclenerd ko is duniya mein sirf tu hi jaanta hai bas tu khush rehai .. But tere knowledge ke liye lemme tell u one thing iBrick or a phone in bricked state doesn’t mean what u think it means .. A phone that is not activated or cannot be activated could be called a bricked phone. Lemme give u an example the phone doesn’t go beyond the apple boot logo after turning on is an iBrick. If I sell my phone and the buyer happens to restore or upgrade the firmware n doesn’t have the official O2 sim his phone will remain bricked till he can activate his phone. The phone that is locked n cannot be unlocked is simply called a locked phone.

  • Suraj Gidwani

    HEY KUNAL
even if this news were true,
we all know contracts can be terminated before they expire.
honestly i dont think they will wait till feb. If they want they have a huge number of other carriers in india they can tie up with. Infact it would make more sense if they tie up with MTNL and BSNL as they are currently the only ones offering 3g in india.

  • joe

For those who are waiting for the iphone 3g prices to come down i have disappointing news

    http://store.apple.com/au/

In australia even after the 3gs was launched the price of the 3G is A$719 which is about 30k in rupees :( .

Now the only hope is for a iphone 3GS 8GB version or buy it from ebay/gray market

  • iPhone 3GS

    Hi Guys,
Does anyone know a place in Dubai where you can find a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS? Is it safe to buy a factory unlocked and will it work here?

  • vankoo

i bought iphone 3gs 32gb officially unlocked from grey market for 51k..i updated it with 3.1.2 and just jailbreaked with blackra1n.. its workin fit and fine.. i had 2g before.. 3gs sounds quality is far better than 2g and browsing net is much faster. i think its waste to wait for officially 3gs to be launched in india.

  • iPhone 3GS

    Hey Guys,
Is it a better bet to buy an iPhone 3GS from Dubai or HK? Also, does anyone know a place in Dubai where you can get an iPhone which is factory unlocked?

    P.S. : Happy Diwali!!!

  • Sachu

hk wud be better..u get iphone for 36k if iam not wrong. its fully unlocked coz hk govt rules does not allow contracting(force users to one network). in dubai they r way too costly for now as far as i know.

  • Harneet

Haanji… 42k for 16 and 48 for 32. Confirmed. Source: My cousin working in Airtel. Launch date: Unknown to employees.

    Chill maadi.

  • anand

guys just spoke to airtel today and guess what 3gs will be available in india in seven to eight days.16 gb for 38000 and 32 gb for 49000 and u can also exchange ur old 3g.

  • Suraj Gidwani

but will it be locked or unlocked ??? Surely at such a high price it must be factory unlocked. Any idea ??

  • Naman

Anand I’m not sure about the part that you can exchange your 3g, that just won’t happen.
Also I have some different news:

    Firstly why it was delayed.
Apple apparently does have some priority for the Indian market. iPhone 3g was a failure in India, because of bad marketing. Apple wanted to get it right this time. So they announced an August release date, and then started talking to Airtel, and vodafone. They wanted the carriers to subsidise the cost and/or market it better.
However, the carriers said it wasn’t profitable for them, and so the talks went on and the phone couldn’t be released. They kept on trying to reach a deal.
Finally a week ago, they decided to just launch the iPhone independently.
Also, there was worldwide shortage of stock due to higher than expected demand.
Anyway now the iPhone is set to launch in November, whenever they have enough stock to support a launch. Also this time, it will be launched independently, and will be sold unlocked.

Still if people can’t wait, they should try to get it from Hong Kong, where it is also sold unlocked. Also just for clarification, I want to tell you that these iPhones are unlocked legally by Apple and is not the same thing as buying from the grey market.

  • Naman

And ya I got my news from apple distributer in Delhi.

  • Nidz

called up airtel cc delhi they stil have no idea abt anything..

  • Chilliwho

Visited the Imagine store in Mumbai today. The sales person there told me that 3GS is expected in the last week of October (which is next week). He said that it should be around Rs. 40 Gs (he was not too sure). But he also told me that it is going to be operator locked again (hope i am wrong on this).
Anyways warming up my palms for my New iPhone 3gs.
Like they say: Better late than never.

  • Nitin7

  • Anuj

Guys this is a great insider .. a bad news but true (I detest people who spread rumours and wont do it myself) .. Apple iPhone 3GS is gonna be launching on the 14th of jan 2010 .. now pls dont say its a thursday so its not possible I don’t know how i just know when

  • Pal

    Hi All,
Don’t bother to buy iPhone 3GS now. I bought the Samsung Omnia and found it fascinating and cool gadget. I am also a fan of MAC OS but for that I can’t keep my patience on hold. I think Samsung OMNIA is giving a big competition to iPhone or HTC. I would say go for it or at least go and have a look at it in the showroom. The camera, features are superb only drawback is it draining battery which needs recharge each day but I am finding it a cool phone to have.

No point in trusting Apple to provide you with a 3gs this year. I would say lack of marketing and operational excellence which is leading to this chaos in international market. Moreover, I spoke to one Apple employee who said India is not in their primary market list so it can wait.

I hope you all get the message……

  • Chilliwho

@ Suraj: I had visited the imagine store at R mall, Ghatkopar. Now, I too think that it’s all bull, as there still no acitvity at all from any of the operators or Apple. Think I’ll jst get one from HK. Bad Apple..

  • DM

Iphone 3GS is awaiting type approval (from Department of Telecom, Goverment of india) and hence the delay in launching in india. The sooner DOT gives type approval for the WiFi it will be launched.

  • hitesh

Am getting factory unlocked (from hk) 16gb 3gs from ebay UK, for INR 40000, including delivery to India.

I think this is the best option for now?

  • iPhone 3GS

Ok Guys, I’m in a fix. My relative is leaving for HK on the 5th of November and now I hear rumors that the iPhone is launching here in the first week of November. Thing is that if I get it from HK, I wont be getting the Apple Care Plan is it is pretty costly. So whats your advice, wait for the iPhone 3GS in India or get it without the Apple Care Plan from HK?

  • Suraj Gidwani

@ iPhone 3GS i called up the hk online apple store from mumbai and spoke to them myself. The apple protection plan will give u 2 years warranty IN HK ONLY AND NOT WORLDWIDE. so no need buying it with app. even the one year warranty will be valid only in hk. so please keep that in mind.

  • atul

hope this news abt first week of nov is true…….keeping my fingers crossed..

  • Bhavik

I have been seeing the apple.co.in/store page being updated since today morning. it says we are updating out catalog. I guess its for the new iMac but i so much wish it should be for iPhone 3Gs.

  • Raju

    Hi Guys

Officially unlocked iPhone 3GS is available from UAE telecoms Etisalat and Du from today onwards. 16GB iphone 3GS costs AED 2399. Its available with contract and without contract. Just confirmed this with their customer supprot (101). Also unlocked iphone 3G is available with warranty without contract for AED 1999. Sharaf DG, Plugins , Jackys and Jumbo selling this. They showcased these items in last weeks GITEX shopper.

I am migrating from Blackberry Bold to iPhone 3GS because of the attractive data bundle. Already booked with etisalat.

  • Chilliwho

I m not too sure about the Apple Care plan, but an factory unlocked iPhone is cheapest in HK (INR 32-33K). Anyways, the Apple Care Plan is not yet available in India, yet.

  • Jigar

Dude… It would be better if you wait for the 3GS to launch here in India. In my opinion, you should at least have a 1 year warranty.

My bro had got an iTouch 18 months ago and after it’s 1 year warranty had expired, some issue with the headphone jack cropped up. On approaching Apple, they told me to shell out half the price of the product (which was around 7000 INR at that time). Apple f#$kers do not replace just the headphone jack (which would have been a lot cheaper).

I have a Macbook Pro too… even that has some LCD panel issues (dead pixels) and I got it replaced for free on the last day of its warranty (And bought a 3 year Apple Care plan too). I love all Apple products but I don’t quite trust them. Or maybe my luck is bad with Apple products

  • firoz

    sure, end of october 2009,
    price,
    16GB :- 36000/-
    32GB :- 46000/-

  • Spade

    Hello Firoz,

    This is end of october,

Please stop eating people’s brain, stop putting useless, valueless comments just for the sake of it.

If you have a source tell that first.

  • Naveen

Hi Sid, as anynomous says first buy a 3GS and then talk. If a have a 2G,3G it doesnt mean u know abt 3GS. though the looks are same its a different beast. The speed is too good, almost instant and equal to a desktop mac. The 3GS is 4 times faster than 3G. A better processer in other phones doesnt mean better speed, see the lags in HTC hero and all samsung phones.

Apple has proved that there is not a single iphone busted due to heat. google it.

I bought my 3GS from Aus and it works perfect fine. And guys if u r going to live in India dont buy apple protection plan because it works only in countries where apple has its own service center. In India its done through the service providers airtel, vodafone.

and waiting for better phones in future wait for 2030 u might get 20 gb processers. Live the moment man just see if u bear the speed of 3GS.

stop talking abt other phones, they are no where near an iphone 3GS experience yet.

  • gmail

today is end of oct 2009…

  • siddharth

    @ naveen
dont talk about the 3gs when you yourself address 20 gb processors..if you measure the processors capability in gb’s I can well imagine what you know about the 3gs.So you google some info and know about the product before writing just anything you feel like on the blog. And yeah its pretty evident that you dont know any of the specs yourself.

  • http://www.sqldude.wordpress.com harshal

People, the apple india store is offline since more than a week now. there is a new RUMORED date floating around on the internet which is 15th Nov 09. 7th Nov was also rumored to be the date but that seems to be less likely.
please do post any new updates if anyone has about the launch.

    -Harshal.

  • iPhone 3GS

    Hey Guys,
Important news that I just got. For all you people waiting for the iPhone 3GS, head over to Heera Panna to get yours. I was so annoyed of waiting that I tried looking for any shop selling the iPhone. So, after researching for quite some, I got lucky. There is a shop in Heera Panna called First Choice. In this shop they are selling the officially unlocked iPhones. This is quite a good shop as I got my first iPhone from them only. So well, the price, I asked someone to call him (sorry dont have the number) and find out the price. Well, all the person told him was 48,000 . I’m guessing for the 16GB.
This is quite a reliable person so if anyone has any second thoughts, don’t. Well to see if everything is as it seems to be, I will personally go there and check the phones out. If you have any quires, feel free to ask as I will be going there soon.
Anyways, hope this is good news for atleast a few people willing to pay the little extra premium!

If anyone needs the phone no. just reply to this post and I will post it here.

    Enjoy!

  • Nidz

got tired of waiting so got myself a 32gb from the grey mkt for 45k today fac unlocked !!

  • Kunal

    Hi

    Two Questions

    1. How would you differentiate between an unlocked iphone and a jailbroken one. Whats the difference between them?

    2. How would you authenticate that it is the original one. what are the points to check before buying one.

I would like to buy at a premium . please share details on gettokunal at yahoo dot com.

    regards,
    Kunal

  • Kunal

    Hi Shailendra

The link mentioned is online and the things you mentiones are there for ages. Please check the online store of apple. http://www.apple.co.in/store/ this is part in under updation.

  • Sharad

    well Sahilendra my friend,

apple.com/in is been online from ages and was never down.. Its apple.co.in/store what we are talking about, which is down from almost weeks now and still not up..

  • iPhone 3GS

Online store still not coming for me

  • iPhone 3GS

    Hello,
Well unlocked and jailbroken is the same thing. There are two types of unlocking methods. Software unlocked or hardware unlocked. Only the first iPhone ever to be unlocked was Hardware unlocked, nowadays, all iPhones are need less to say , software unlocked.
There is a difference although between officially unlocked and the plain jailbroken unlock. Well, in the jailbroken unlocking, you unlock a phone by illegal methods, i.e., disenableing warrenty and maybe even causing a threat of disfunction of the phone. Now, officially unlocked means that the phone is also software unlocked, but in this case, the phone is unlocked by Apple itself and does not void warranty or cause any issues and can be upgraded to the newest firmware instantly without any hassels.
I recommend only officially unlocked phones as they are safe and at this point of time, when the phone is not launched in India, you can still get the SAME phone with the SAME software and use it just like a proper, legal (which it also is) iPhone updating to the newest firmware, i.e. 3.2, 3.3 and then 4.0, with no hassles of it being bricked (closed down forever) and can use all its features with no problems.

    Hope this helps!

  • Shailendra

HI , I was checking in Pune for iPhone 3GS , found out that they are selling iPhone 3gs 16gb= Rs. 38000.00 , The kit is already opened for unlocking as the store manager told me hence no warrenty.
    They do not have 32gb

Could some one explain if that is called jail breaking or officially unlocking ?

  • rAg

dude u r totally confused about unlocking an jailbreaking..

Many major devices have the file system access restriction on em… It means that u cant access the direct file system on the device, which is also the case in iPhone.

To gain access into the device file system is called jailbreaking. If you want to run some third party code on the device u need to gain the file system access first so u need to jailbreak the device first.

After u jailbreak the device u need to unlock it. Unlocking on iPhone is related to something called baseband which is a small processor in iPhone which performs all network related operations including wifi. The baseband is restricted to accept signals of only one carrier on an iPhone.

Now what these hackers do is to find a loop hole in the baseband so that they can inject their own code into it. By doing so they will edit the baseband in such a way that it can accept any carrier signals. This is the way u can unlock iPhone which is actually locked to a particular network only. This is called software unlocking your iPhone

Officially unlocked phones are quite different. Apple locks down the phone to a particular carrier using an encrypted network key which is literally impossible to detect by hackers as its a strenuous process and differs with each iphone again. But on an officially unlocked iPhone there is no such network key lock done by apple. So it will accept any carrier signals.

The advantage of officially unlocked iPhone is that ur iphone wont get locked down even when u upgrade it.

Whereas on a software unlocked iPhone when apple updates the baseband version in new firmware it will lockdown ur iPhone again if you upgrade to that new firmware. It isnt a compulsion that apple will update the baseband also in new firmwares but if at all the baseband is updated then ur iphone will get locked down if u go to that firmware.

ex: 3.0 and 3.0.1 have the same version baseband so even of u upgrade ur iphone from 3.0 to 3.0.1 it doesnt matter as u can still unlock ur iphone. But 3.1 has a different baseband again, so if u upgrade ur iphone to 3.1 then ur iphone will get locked down but luckily there is an unlock available for 3.1 and 3.1.2 version also right now :)

  • Sharad

    Hi Shailendra,

What you are going for is called unlocking or software unlocking but not officially unlocking. Officially unlock or Factory unlock can only be done by Apple or Carriers which are authorized by Apple to do so.

The problem with software hack or unofficial unlock which you are going for is that you won’t be able to update firmwares released from apple straight away. You have to wait for hack group called iphone developer community to release software hack for the latest firmware or software update released from apple. Also, there are possibility in future that Apple will come up with some update which can brick all iPhone which are unofficially unlocked.

  • Suraj Gidwani

i got some strange news . if u call up the istore in mumbai which is managed by relaince they say the expected launch is novemeber end or dec 1st week. here is their number 022-40040606 ( worli) , 022-67258633 ( ghatkopar ) .

u cal up the imagine store which are resalers for apple they tell u FEBRUARY 2010 . can u beleive that ? that is hell late and thats insane . this fact can be verfied by dialing imagine worli 022–24813501/2/3 or imagine inorbit mall malad 022-28781834/3

this is too muh, someone give me the correect news

  • Chilliwho

Gr8 insight rAg. U know ur stuff.

And yes, 3.1.2 is unlockable thanks to blacksn0w, whereas blackra1n jailbreaks the iPhone.

  • Chilliwho

There is no way your can differentiate between an factory unlocked iPhone(FUI)and a jail break+unlocked iPhone (JUI)by looking at it.
Here when the shopkeeper could have meant activating (which needs to be done through iTunes even for FUI)when he said unlocking.

So u need to clarify it from the shopkeeper, or u could probably ask him for the country where the iPhone was originally bought. (you can google the list of countries where FUI can be bought)
Ask him if the iPhone will get locked if i update it. (Ask him to show it to you by updating the firmware, if the iPhone is still unlocked then congratulations u have and FUI)

A friend of mine is traveling via HK so, i’ll be getting my FUI by next week. ;D

  • Chilliwho
  • rAg

    @Shailendra

The phone might be sealed or locked or unlocked or anything.. It still does not carry any warranty in india if it’s purchased from some other company.

iPhone is the only apple product which DOES NOT CARRY INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY.

Also for all you guys who think that unlocking will void warranty is just a myth. As you guys know there are two kinds of restores in iPhone. A restore in “restore” mode and a restore in “DFU” mode.

What happens in the restore mode is that the log files will still remain on the iPhone using which apple can detect what all u did with your iPhone.

But when u restore using DFU mode the iPhone will be wiped out for good, no log files or any old file will remain. So if you wanna claim something or get something in warranty all u need to do is just restore it in DFU mode and take it to the apple care people thats it.

Hope this is helpful for u guys :) :)

Suppose i buy a iphone from the gray market, and if i have any problems with the phone. Can i get it repaired from the Apple Service Centre’s? I don’t mind paying for the repair, i just want to know if they will do it

  • Phonewala

    Guys,

Good News ! E-Phone 3GS chinese arrived in Market. It is available at less than 5000.

It has few features of iPhone 3GS.

iPhone 3GS will be launched in FEB2010 as per Apple.

  • iPhone 3GS

    ya they should repair it.

  • iPhone 3GS

What do you mean “as per Apple” ? What/Who is your source ?

  • rAg

They wont repair it. Try it out if you want. There is no support for iPhone in india except at vodafone and airtel stores. And people at those stores blindly turn away from you iPhone if it isnt purchased from them.

The only way you can get it repaired is at local dealers or stores.

  • Anuj

Ok here is how you can come to know whether the phone’s officially unlocked or not …

    1. If you have access to Internet and a pc/laptop at the time of purchase just insert any sim card and connect the phone to iTunes and click on restore if the phone is already activated. If it’s an officially unlocked phone you will read a message on iTunes that ‘your iPhone has been unlocked’ this means it is officially unlocked

    2. just swipe on the screen to the second page (could be even 1st) and see if you find cydia or blackra1n installed .. If you don’t find any and your sim still works then it means it is officially unlocked

    3. If you do see cydia/blackra1n then check then go to settings->general-> about and scroll down to modem firmware there are two possibilities it could be 04.26.08 or 05.11.07
if it’s 04.26.08 then open cydia goto manage->packages scroll down until you see ultrasn0w or yellowsn0w .. If you don’t see it then it means that the phone is officially unlocked but if you do then tap on it and then tap on modify (top right) and then tap on remove after having done that restart your phone and if your sim card works then it means that the phone is Officially Unlocked

if the modem firmware is 05.11.07
tap on blackra1n to check whether blacksn0w is installed if it is then uninstall it after that reboot the phone if it works then it’s officially unlocked .. If you don’t find blacksn0w installed then go to cydia and check if blacksn0w is installed (manage-sources) if it’s there uninstall and reboot if your sim card works then the phone is officially unlocked

I know many smart guys out here would be wondering if ultrasn0w/blacksn0w is already installed then it already means that the phone is unofficially unlocked .. But not really, the sellers really don’t know the difference and they try to unofficially unlock the officially unlocked phone

  • fanboy

hey guys, i guess so much of brand loyality is not good either.. I am an Apple fan and has a mac book and a iTouch.. Even I was waiting for iPhone 3GS launch, but disappointed with the delay. Now i am evaluating other options as well.. if Apple is not sensitive about their customers in India, why should we give them so importance. by the way, if they launch the 3GS say sometime in December (only GOD knows when) we will still be almost a generation behind. Perhaps its time to move on towards a more open platform and someone who gives indian consumers as much importance as anyother consumers of the world geography. 3 cheers to apple for creating such fantastic and inovative products, but as long as its not available in india (forget about grey market) its like having a picture of great foods.. you can see it, but cant really enjoy it.

  • iphoneDreamLost

@fanboy I totally agree to what you say.. There are couple of good options available today which are as good as iphone 3gs if not + – a few features. I am seriously thinking about SE Satio and the HTC hero. Though still not able to choose between the two.

  • fanboy

hi dreamlost.. i have not gone really deep into satio spec, but choosing between satio and hero will be selecting between symbion and android and i ll go android way anyday. plz dont go by the camera MP count..its just a feel good factor. well these are all my personal views..not any review about any product.

  • raveesh.

Is software unlocked i phone 3Gs is available in B’lore.I want to buy one immdly.

  • Raveesh

    Raveesh,
If you want an unlocked i Phone 3GS, then you need to go to Sukh Sagar plaza in Gandhinagar next to National Market. There is shop on the ground floor opposite the Sweet outlet which has several pieces in sale. He was quoting around 50k for a 32 GB. Try your luck.
    Cheers,

Where are you getting from..i too want one.

  • whyme

    1) grey market selling 32gb 3gs for about 52000 to 58000

    2) at that price not worth it

    3) anyone can buy off unlock iphone from apple Hongkong. (but then damm tax authorities etc wants his share of money….. damm they are like leeches)

    4) so take a round trip to hongkong and buy off hongkong airport. worth the trip and cheapest for no contract unlock iphone.

  • whyme

Oh one more thing after buying the iphone from hong kong airport. Pls removed all the boxes and etc. otherwise the custom wants Rs Rs Rs Rs

  • whyme

As I was told that one of the reason why the 3GS is not here is that the authorities of India are having trouble pertaining to the Platform of 3G. (guess you guys also knows about it from the press as the PIE that they want from legitimate businessman doesn’t make any sense in whichever way you see it)

But nevertheless the 3GS is a better buy comparison to more softwares and also greater speed and better camera.

The cheapest next country to get is Singapore but you have to buy without contract from Singtel. (sorry they don’t sell you on line) so if you have friends there great. pay him the money and it is cheaper than Hong Kong airport.

Both Hong Kong and Singapore, the products obtained can be trusted with reliability to quality and sales outlets so you can be assured that it is safe.

In Singapore the Iphone 32 GB 3GS should not cost more than 41000 (depending on exchange rate as i am giving a slight buffer) without contract.

Obviously if you have friend whom can grant you his contract as he has no intention to upgrade his phone that would be best.

Sorry, for some sinister mind, Nope you cannot buy a Iphone with a contract without necessary papers. (ha ha they have met enough nonsensical people whom have done so and breach it. and I am sure you don’t want to go to a country with the strictest law to try some stuntmanship. ha ha

Its a joke. but at least this I hope will clear everyone’s mind on the getting of Iphone in india of which the rumours says that it is now time shifted to January 2010. (ha ha and that is provided that they could sort out the various issues, bidding issues, etc)

Imagine the price that the government is trying to release to the private sector for 3 yrs contract, to set the platform…. build the infrastructure etc for billions …. IT JUST WON’T HAPPEN. Lets hope that someone is great enough to tell the stupid authorities here that wake up you cannot be having your cake and eat it….. at the expense of the country when the world is progressing so fast beyond us while someone out there is thinking of …..?

Pls I have not evil intention in hurting anyone nor defaming any, if so pls, I am a poor simple man…. whom is at times AAARRRRRRRGGGG over the politics and systems here.

  • iPhone 3GS

    Hello Guys !!!!

I just got my iPhone 3GS !!!!! and to make my day better I even got a MacBook Air!!!!!! This is the best day of my life. Seriously guys, GO AHEAD and BUY It now !!! Its the best out of my iphone, 3g and this thing is SUPER fast !!!! ! :) :)

  • iPhone 3GS

oh and just FYI i got mine in White 32GB ! oh and for previous 3g, original iPhone users, I noted something which is a VERY small difference but just FYI, the Home Button does NOT make that “click” noise anymore, it’s just a soft touch now. And trust me if your deciding btw a 16 gig and 32 gig, get 32 gig, it’s just 6,000 more and its still ever so light and slim !!!

I’ll never forget this day in my life, 1st MacBook Air (which too is superfast!) and then the 3GS!!

  • Indian consumer

Yes! shifting the launch to Jan seems to be stupid move..
i wanted to buy the iphone for b’day in Jan, it seems buying the ipod touch seems a better option now :( .
Kindly God, please give the guys in Apple(India) some brains as it seem they have lost there marbles and also there sense of business.
    same on you Apple.
I suppose they will launch 3gs in India once the 4gs model is ready to roll out in rest of the World.
These guys started to sell the iphone in China and these chinese people have not liked it. the sales are very low.
WTF Apple, kindly atleast give us a launch date in India.

  • Indian consumer

Hi Apple fans in India, this is what i was talking about.
Apple is working on the iphone 4g.so hopefully we can expect a new phone around june/july 2010.
Also hopefully iphone 3gs would be available then in india.

This is so Goddamn frustrating…GTH Apple-india.
Does any body have Steve Jobs email.Somebody can mail him and let him know our frustration on this issue.

    Meanwhile check this link.=>http://www.fonearena.com/blog/2009/11/29/apple-already-conducting-field-tests-for-next-gen-iphone-3-1.html

  • KM

Tired of all the waiting I finally purchased without bill and warranty. It is a brand new and already jail breaked and carrier patched. 16GB.

    1. Using iTunes happily – just not updating the same. You know what I mean.
    2. Bluetooth works perfect.
    3. Web browsing in Safari is awesome.
    4. Google Maps is great.
    5. Installed tons of apps from App Store – works fine.
    6. Added few GBs of songs in iTunes.
    7. WiFi is just amazing – shows how good the phone is.

In short – yes – expensive – but – worth every penny. I am just loving it.

    Delhi, India.

  • sandeep

iphone 3gs will be coming by january end

  • BS

You Indian dudes are all rationalizing illegal behavior. Apple believes and I think they can prove it that any unlocking of those iphones that are clearly locked to a particular carrier in a particular country is per se illegal and a violation of copyright law. Their position is that is a violation of the DMCA (a recent update to US Copyright law). And, the Indian Copyright Act of 1957 is pretty strict and Apple could make its case that most of you who have purchased such phones knew what you were buying were illegal as they were unlocked in violation of Indian law. The Indian Copyright Act of 1957 like the DMCA carries criminal provision.s

  • Indian consumer

BS, I agree with your part that unlocking is illegal, but tell me why do we take all the pains and money to unlock it. its just because the iphone 3gs is not available here in India. I and all the people above me, here were waiting for the official launch since july.all we have got is hope! and nothing else.

Apple is selling phones in China were nobody is buying the iphone.and has huge stock of the the phone.
but they will keep dead stock and not sell it anywhere.

Apple is planning to launch 4 generation iphone soon, but the iphone is yet to reach here in India.
Does Mr Job’s still consider us the so called ‘Third World’(No pun intended).
hopefully we would have 3gs soon here.Keeping our finger cross.

    @BS,

What you just said is BS.
Sorry, i couldn’t help … but u had that coming!

If i Jailbreak an iPhone, there is jackshit you(or apple) can do about it.
If i unlock my iPhone, there is jackshit you(or apple) can do about it – except void my warranty.

Am an IP Lawyer and i can assure you, Apple is still trying to take its case with the FCC for the Jailbreaking thing (and they are having no luck there). Around the world, there is nothing they can do about it.

sorry to throw water into ur case.

  • sharath

  • SAIF

iphone launch date shifted to March 2nd 2010 …. wtf … is steve jobs out of his mind, why dont the politicians take up this issue man, they kind of considering us as some thirdworld countries .. there are more gizmo crazy ppl in india than anywhere else, but still we dont get the gadgets …. its frustrating …. feel like buyin an iphone and crushing it under my feet in front of steve jobs for treating us like this … to hell with his technology, if it cant reach the right ppl …. insane.!!!

  • Kunal

What is your source of the information regarding the launch?

    regards,
    kunal

  • Indian Consumer

@Saif- From where did you get the news of this cathistropic event :(
    Any price points mentioned.
Its better to wait for a year and buy the iphone 4g in 2011, rather than buying the 3GS now.
I will buy the ipod touch next month… enough of wait for the iphone launch :(

    Hell with Steve Jobs :(
