Apple receives patent for new journaling feature, aims to geo-tag everything you do

Apple has been granted a new patent (No.8,316,046) which allows the phone to automatically geo-tag each and every event that takes place on the phone. The service will create a log of all forms of device data. The patent indicates that a map will be used to display the data with icons to segregate life events between phone call, downloads, etc.

The system will let users search through their own log and find specific details between listed timelines. According to the patent listing, the system allows for the use of Boolean operators as well as filters to further divide listings. The implementation may let the system backup this log data to a server for cross device usage and backup.

Network connections, radio broadcasts, application data such as opening or closing an app, device charging times, attachment of an external device are just a few of the system events that the journaling subsystem can handle. The system wide application will provide APIs for apps to plug into it.
