Google Play celebrates 25 billion downloads with $0.25 discounted apps for 5 days

With the ever burgeoning Android smartphone marketshare, it is inevitable that the Play Store will have some insane amounts of downloads too. Continuing with that upward trend of app count as well as app downloads, the Google Play Store has hit 25 billion downloads of about 675,000 apps and games. To celebrate this achievement, they have started to offer some discounts for the next five days.

Like they celebrated 10 billion downloads with 10 cent discount apps, they are celebrating 25 billion downloads with 25 cent (Rs. 13.36) discounted apps and games from the world’s top developers including EA, Gameloft, Rovio, Runtastic, Fill fat and more. There will also be some special collections like 25 banned books, 25 movies you must own, etc that depends based on the country.

This is a great move to boast the number of downloads as well as time for the developers to gain some marketing acumen for their top apps, which were not affordable to many. With 675,00 apps, the Play Store is in really close proximity to the market leader – the Apple app store which has about 700,000 apps and games, but it is expected that the count will soon overtake the market leader anytime now.

The list of discounted apps and games would be revealed on Google Play later today.
