BSNL Video Telephony service now in Gujarat

BSNL has been in the forefront of revolutionising the telecom sector for the past few years or so. After the launch of their IPTV services and 3G in the recent past, they have now tied up with IT solutions major Sai Infosystems India to launch voice-and-video facility on BSNL broadband service in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Video Telephony enables users to talk on the phone and also see the person they are talking to. This audio-visual communication enhances the communication experience for the user. Although video telephony has been widely available in other parts of the world for a few years now, it is mostly used for business purposes (video conferencing).

Video telephony also offers video surveillance. Thanks to new breakthroughs in technology, security cameras are more effective than ever before. Banks, retail stores, and countless other end-users depend on the protection provided by video surveillance. While analog CCTV systems were once the norm, they can be expensive, requiring complicated installations and constant upkeep. Fortunately, advances in digital technology have made video surveillance systems far more cost-effective, flexible, and simple to operate. Security systems using IP (Internet Protocol) cameras are easy to install and maintain, and can be customized and scaled to perfectly match your specific needs.

“Voice over IP will provide a long awaited video calling and video conferencing services to the people. Now, a consumer in Surat dialling his sister in Ahmedabad will not only be able to talk but be able to see her” said Kuldeep Goyal, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL.

Launching the service, Sunil Kakkar, chairman and managing director of Sai Info, said video communication has a huge business potential to be tapped.

The voice-and-video service will cover a wide spectrum of telecom services like video telephony, video surveillance and integrated mobile advertising, Kakkar said.

“It will improve efficiency, productivity with better, faster communication and results and save lot of time and money over travelling.”

The company said in a statement that it would introduce a wide range of phone equipment from simple to high-end models in the market. “The connectivity for the service will be provided by BSNL,” Kakkar said.

The launch will be done in a phased manner on BSNL network in other Gujarat cities, he said.
