Tata Teleservices to merge CDMA & GSM divisions

Tata Teleservices which is the telecom unit of the Tata Group will merge both the CDMA and GSM divisions. It is also said to cut jobs by the end of this year based on non-performance, and the CDMA employees will be the one to be affected the most.

This will combine all the CDMA and GSM services in all the circles under 4 four regions that include West & Upper North, East & UP, South and Delhi & Rajasthan. These 4 regions will have 15 mobility business units by combining the circles.

The CDMA services are provided under Tata Indicom and the GSM services are provided by both Tata Indicom and Tata Docomo. Tata Indicom has 93 million subscribers in India with less than 50% of active GSM and CDMA connections.

This company reported a net loss of Rs.119.32 crore in Q2 2011 recently, and this move is to improve the cost efficiency.
