Nokia N9 / RM-680 Passes FCC Tests , Coming Soon ?

on May 12, 2011 – 12:58 am3 Comments

The long awaited MeeGo smartphone by Nokia might finally be making its way to consumers soon. FCC documents reveal that the device has undergone testing and packs in quad band GSM and penta band 3G support like the recent Symbian 3 devices. The device bears an uncanny resemblance to the previously leaked design. There were rumors around the internet that the design had been ditched for an all new fully touch based phone but the FCC images say otherwise.

Meanwhile My Nokia Blog reports that an ad-agency by the name of Arguelles has begun shooting a Nokia N950 commercial. Is this the same as the N9 ? We believe so. This ads fuel to the speculation that the N9/N950/RM-680 might be coming sooner than expected.

The Nokia N9 is believed to be powered by a 1.6Ghz Atom processor and uses the MeeGo operating system.

MEEGO TO THE RESCUE OF NOKIA

Meego is the way to go for Nokia. Surely not with Windows. Windows will surely will bring doom and failure for Nokia. But with Nokia there is potential and very good chance for Nokia to get on top of the game as well, quite possibly, over and above Android devices too, in the short term.

Nokia needs to get their act together and focus their resources and market activity to come out with excellent Meego devices – phones, smart phones, tables, and more.
The underlying foundation of the OS and structure is better positioned to take on Android, RIM, and iOS too. With Meemo at the forefront, Nokia has a chance to become the industry leader one more time.

And Nokia could even hedge the market and present a 3-tier offering to the market:
    • Meemo High-End Smartphones and Tablets
    • Android Commodity devices to cater to the market demands (Hedge, just in case), and
    • Symbian phones to continue and maintain their legacy customer base and keep their low-end market alive.

This approach will position Nokia aggressively with the lucrative high-end Smart Phones and Tablets, as well as the Android market that is turning out to be a high-demand consumer commodity phone system. At the same time, Nokia will continue to leverage and support their Symbian customers with their their standard volume Symbian devices.
