Earlier this month, Google and Samsung launched the world’s first handset to feature the latest Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System, the Google Nexus S. This handset is currently up for sale in the UK and US. The price, release date and availability of this handset in India is still unknown. But we have a good news for the folks living in India.

Infibeam, a popular online retailer will soon sell the powerful Nexus S in India. Nexus S features 4 inch Super AMOLED display, 1 GHz application processor, Android 2.3 OS (Gingerbread), 5 megapixel camera with Auto Focus, HD (720p) video recording, NFC, Wi-Fi, 16 GB internal memory, 512MB RAM, 3.5 mm audio jack, 1500 mAh battery and much more.

This handset is currently available at eBay India for Rs.32,999, but Nexus S will be soon available at Infibeam for just Rs.24,000 (approx. $530). This handset is expected to be available at Infibeam from mid-January or late-January. Are you planning to buy this handset or do you think the price sounds unrealistic ? Impossible. Even in US the price is much higher including all the taxes. It will never be so low in India for sure..

They themselves are selling galaxy S for 28k even now..

Even I agree. The Nexus S is almost 99% same as the Galaxy S with the changes being the extra NFC (Near Field Communication) chip and the contour display. Nothing more in the hardware section and in the software field, yes, Android 2.3 goodness. But all this cannot undermine the fact that the twin, Galaxy S is sold at a price point of 27k, the price point of Nexus S just cannot be true. The marketing strategies of mobile companies are different as they would never allow their previous flagship models to be sold at a higher price than the current similar spec phones.

Agree. It’s well known that Nexus S is very close sibling of Galaxy S. The only difference between the two is the Firmware version; Nexus S has the latest and greatest Gingerbread (However, which will soon be available for Galaxy S too). How could they sell it cheaper than a phone with older version of Android?

Will anyone buy Samsung’s own Galaxy S, while a superior Nexus S is available for lesser price and in collaboration with Google.

I somehow have d feeling that after import duties the price will be around 30k. Else infibeam and Google must have to do social service by not charging any profit on it

When it will available in Pakistan.

I just got one from the US. Using it on the Reliance 3G network. Awesome handset. Best Android phone….have used LG Optimus One and Samsung Galaxy S with Froyo. This one is miles ahead!

  • Soham adhikari

Will it be only available in online store or will come to the samsung store.

  • TJ

No simply because at CES 2011 from 6-9th Jan,u have much more powerful & feature rich Dual core Phones in the line.LG Optimus 2X has been already launched.
As i am already on N1,this Nexus S does not seem to be a right choice

Seems its impossible and unbelievable at this price Rs 24k in india it will be priced atleast Rs 30-34k i think so

  • rAg

These guys are just importing the handsets to sell em. In US the cost is 575$ (taxes varies with state) including taxes which comes down to 26k INR. When you include shipping charges and customs duty it will come to 30k min. So Infibeam is just trying to lure customers with false pricing. I think they will change the price when they start the actual sales.

Very much realistic if google and samsung really want hit this phone in india then they should keep the price low as possible remember india is volume driven market they can earn more by doing so.

24K?? … And wat about the consumers, who have brought the Samsung Galaxy S for a very high price. Even I brought it for 28K (wid an additional 8 GB micro SD card, but it doesn’t help). Samsung should keep the dignity of it’s brands and its users. Look at the IPhone. IPhone 5 is about to arrive, but still IPhone 3G S costs around 30K in India.

Look at Nokia, Nobody wants to buy a Nokia Phone early after release, because prices go down so fast, day after day. When Nokia 6600 was launched, one of my friends brought it for 26K and soon after (just 6- months) the price went down by 10K, leaving the cost 15-16K and after another 6 months less than 12K, after another 6 months 8K and amazingly on Diwali 2004, there was an offer “BUY NOKIA 6600 FOR JUST RS. 6600″.

I m not saying to keep the price high always, but to place the goods for the price they really deserve.

If just after 6-7 months an advanced phone is available for as much as Rs. 4000 less from the previous, it feels like you have been cheated and it really hurts.

      Sandeep,

I agree and have felt the same with my previous phones. But the mobile phone market and the dynamics associated with it is way different and hence this change in price is inevitable. They keep releasing so many phones that the price cannot be maintained constant for a long period. Check out the Galaxy Tab pricing now. It was released at 38k, 2 months ago (not even 2 months i guess). Now they have slashed it and is available at 29k. Crazy but true. This is because Motorola is releasing its tablet and Adam is also on the way. With these in market officially and with I-Pad through unofficial channels, Galaxy Tab sales will be hit hard. Hence to increase the sales they have to do these.

On the personal front, even I am pained as I also had paid around 28k for my Galaxy S. But now it’s price is way cheap. But cannot help it. I am very happy with my phone and android OS.

This phone has not been released yet in india as far as I know. And the price tag is improbable. I assume it to be priced around 28k. It could be a bit lower than galaxy s as it does not have an sd card slot and video recording is not actual Hd.

How much has the galaxy s price come down? And where can can u buy a galaxy tab for 29k? Also, what is the price of the ipad unofficially here in india?

    • http://pavandgalaxy.blogspot.com Pavan D

Galaxy S is available at 26k. It is much lesser in ebay.in for around 24.5k (fresh piece). But the problem is that there is no stock available. A lot of my friends are interested in buying it. But cannot find it anywhere. My friend bought a Nexus S from Bestbuy and found some issues in it. Hence returned it.

Galaxy Tab is available in a lot of places at that price. Its price has indeed been reduced to 29k. I am pretty sure of that.
