Weekly Roundup: Xiaomi Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Vivo NEX, Samsung QLED TVs, Garmin vivoactive 3 Music and more


Xiaomi Redmi 6

This week Xiaomi has announced the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A smartphones in China. Vivo has announced the much-hyped full-screen Vivo NEX S smartphone. Garmin has launched the vivoactive 3 Music smartwatch with integrated Music support and lots more in our weekly roundup.

Xiaomi announced the Redmi 6, the company’s latest smartphone in the Redmi series and the successor of Redmi 5. It has a 5.45-inch HD+ display 18:9 aspect ratio display with 80.7% screen-to-body ratio, is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 12nm processor and runs Android 8.1 (Oreo) with MIUI 9 on top. It has a 5-megapixel front camera with face unlock and AI portrait. The Xiaomi Redmi 6 3GB RAM + 32GB storage costs 799 yuan (US$ 124 / Rs. 8,410 approx.), the Xiaomi Redmi 6 4GB RAM + 64GB storage – 999 yuan (US$ 156 / Rs. 10,520 approx.).

 

 

The Redmi 6A with the first MediaTek Helio A22 12nm Quad-Core SoC, single 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front camera both with AI Portrait mode, but it doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor. Both the phones have a polycarbonate back panel with a brushed metal surface. Xiaomi Redmi 6A  2GB RAM + 16GB storage costs 599 yuan (US$ 93 / Rs. 6,307 approx.).

Vivo NEX S

Vivo introduced its flagship NEX series smartphones. The main highlight of the smartphone is its 6.59-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with ultra-narrow 1.71 mm bezels on the sides, 2.16mm on the top and a 91.24% screen-to-body ratio. It doesn’t have an earpiece, instead, it vibrates the screen using Screen SoundCasting Technology that promises better bass and softer treble. It uses ray data compensation algorithm that hides the light sensor at the bottom of the screen, thanks to an innovative design. The micro-slit infrared sensor is also hidden at the top of the screen. It has an 8-megapixel pop-up front camera that automatically rises and hides when you open and close the camera app.

Vivo NEX Camera

The Vivo NEX smartphones come in  Diamond Black and Red colors. The NEX S with Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM and in-display fingerprint scanner is priced at 4498 yuan (US$ 702 / Rs. 47,375 approx.), 256GB version of it costs 4998 yuan (US$ 780 / Rs. 52,640 approx.) and the Snapdragon 710-powered NEX A with 6GB RAM costs 3898 yuan (US$ 608 / Rs. 41,055 approx.). It will be available in China from June 23rd.

Garmin has introduced vivoactive 3 Music, its new GPS-enabled smartwatch with integrated Music support that lets you store up to 500 songs by downloading offline music playlists from select music streaming services like Deezer (coming soon), iHeartRadio, or transfer music from a computer directly. The vivoactive 3 Music comes with a black silicone 20mm band, costs $299.99 (Rs. 20,265 approx.), and is already available in the U.S.

Samsung UHD TV

Samsung has announced all-new 2018 line-up of televisions, including new models in the flagship QLED, mid-range UHD and the Make for India ‘Concert’ series. The company says that the TVs come with groundbreaking design elements, enhanced picture quality, and smart, intuitive capabilities.

The new 8 Samsung QLED TVs range from 55-inch to 75-inch and they will start from Rs.2,45,000. The entry-level UHD  comes in  7100 series followed by 7470, 8000 and finally The Frame. The UHD TV range will start from Rs. 64,900. The Smart concert and Joy concert are available in 32”, 43” and 49” sizes, and will start from  Rs. 27,500.

Dell OptiPlex 7760

Dell has launched its new range of OptiPlex commercial All-in-Ones (AIO), mini tower, and micro desktops in India. The OptiPlex 7760 sports a 27-inch InfinityEdge display, while the OptiPlex 7460 packs a 23.8-inch InfinityEdge display. The company has also introduced the 7060 series, the 5060 series, and the 3060 series micro-desktops, small-form-factor (SFF), and mini-tower. The new OptiPlex range starts at Rs 33,999 onwards and will be available in various configurations ranging from Intel i3 to i7.

Ulefone X

Ulefone has introduced Ulefone X, it sports a 5.85-inch HD+ display with a notch and 18.9:9 aspect ratio, 91% screen-to-body ratio and has a 3300mAh battery with support for wireless charging. It is powered by Helio P23 SoC with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera. It has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with face unlock and also has a fingerprint sensor on the back. The Ulefone X comes in Black and White colors, is available for pre-order for  $159.99 (Rs. 10,825 approx.) from today till June 20 and ships from later this month.

Xiaomi launched the Mi Rollerball Pen, Mi Travel U-shaped Pillow, I Love Mi T-shirt and Mi Band 2 Charge Cable in India. These new products will expand the Mi Eco-system products in India. The Xiaomi’s iRollerball Pen comes in an aluminum body. The pen has a premium feel to it and makes for an excellent gift as well.

Mi Rollerball Pen

The Mi Rollerball Pen will be available for Rs. 179, the Mi Travel U-shaped Pillow will be available in two colors; Grey and Beige and is priced at of Rs.999. The T-shirt with minimalistic design will be available in three basic colors; Grey, Black, and White. It will be available for Rs. 399. The Mi band 2 charger cable will be available for Rs. 129. All these products will be available starting today midnight on Mi.com.

Samsung Chromebook Plus

Samsung announced an upgrade to the Chromebook Plus, the new version; V2 comes with front and rear cameras, built-in pen, and an Intel Celeron processor. It sports a 12.2-inches 1920×1080 resolution screen that transforms it from notebook to tablet to sketchbook. The Samsung Chromebook Plus (V2) will be available starting from June 24th at BestBuy.com and Best Buy stores, starting at $499.99 (Rs. 33,975 approx.).

Samsung launched the new Sunrise Gold color variant of the Galaxy S9 smartphone that joins the Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple versions that were launched earlier this year. Samsung has also announced a TV Control widget, which offers a one-of-its-kind unified convergence solution between mobiles and televisions.

Once enabled through Smart Things app, when a user is in the vicinity of a television, the TV Control widget will automatically show up on their phone and allow two-way screen mirroring and sound mirroring. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ Sunrise Gold limited edition with 128GB storage is priced at Rs.68,900. Samsung is offering a special one-time screen replacement offer and Rs.9000 cashback when customers pay using Paytm Mall or ICICI Bank credit cards. It will be available across selected retail stores from June 20th, 2018, and pre-booking on Samsung Shop and Flipkart starts today.

Lenovo

Lenovo has announced the Legion Y530, Legion Y730 gaming laptops, Legion C730, Legion C530 gaming PCs. Lenovo has also introduced the Legion T730 28-liter desktop tower, Legion C730 19-liter gaming PC, Lenovo Legion C530 19-liter gaming PC.

The 17-inch Lenovo Legion Y730 Laptop will start at $1,249.99 (Rs.84,568 approx.) and the 15-inch model will start at $1,179.99 (Rs.79,832 approx.), both available on from Lenovo online store and select local retailers in September 2018. The 15-inch Lenovo Legion Y530 Laptop will be available starting $929.99 (Rs.62,918 approx.) on Lenovo online store and select local retailers starting in June 2018.

Micromax has released Canvas 2 Plus, one year after launching the  Canvas 2 (2017) in the Canvas series. It has a 5.7-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass screen with 18:9 aspect ratio, is powered by a quad-core processor, has a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera wit support for face unlock, however it still runs on Android Nougat. It has a fingerprint sensor on the back. The Micromax Canvas 2 Plus comes in Matte Black and Jet Black colors, is priced at Rs. 8999 and is available through offline retailers across India.
