Apple iPhone, Apple Watch get a price hike in India after increase in import duty

As the Indian government at the Union Budget 2018-19 announced an increase in import duty on mobile phones from 15% to 20% last week, Apple has increased the price of its iPhones, including its iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X smartphones as well as Apple Watch models in the country. This is the second price hike in less than 2 months after a recent price hike in December when the duty was increased from 10% to 15% in the country.

The iPhone SE that is currently assembled in India doesn’t see a price hike. Other models get up to 3.6% hike. The high-end iPhone X 256GB version now costs Rs. 1,08,930, compared to previous price of Rs. 1,05,720, and up about 6.8% from the launch price of Rs. 102,000.

Even though Apple did not increase the price of Apple Watch last time, now they have increased the price of both the Apple Watch Series 3 and Series 1 by about  8 or 9% depending on the model. This is a marginal price hike which might not affect the users.

Even though Apple sets a standard MRP, some third-party retailers sell the smartphones at cheaper rates. So you can get it online at cheaper even after this price hike. Check out the change in price below.
