Opera Developer 49 browser will now support 360-degree videos in virtual reality headsets. The VR feature would work with compatible devices like HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. This functionality enables users to watch virtual reality videos, and standard 2D videos, instantly through their VR headsets.

The Opera Developer 49 version comes with VR 360 player feature enabled and will automatically detect an installed VR headset. When a user browses to a video, a button above the video (next to Opera’s video pop out button) labeled ‘Watch in VR’ will appear. This option will appear automatically as and when a VR video is detected in the browser. As it is a 360-degree VR video you will not need a mouse and keyboard to control the video. Moreover, the new video playback will support standard 180-degree videos or movies.
