Google has acquired Halli Labs, a Bengaluru-based startup which specialized in artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The four month old startup is engaged in developing solutions to traditional problems using AI, MI, deep learning and natural language processing technologies. The word Halli means village in Kannada. Halli Labs was co-founded early this year by Pankaj Gupta, former chief technology officer of online homestay aggregator Stayzilla. He is an alumnus of Stanford University and has also worked as a senior data scientist at Twitter, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Caesar Sengupta, vice president of product management at Google, also confirmed the deal in a tweet.
Google also confirmed the acquisition with a short statement to TechCrunch,
“We are excited that the Halli Labs team is joining Google,” said spokesperson Taj Meadows. “They’ll be joining our team that is focused on building products that are designed for the next billion users coming online, particularly in India.”
Google is bolstering its efforts with AI from some time. Last year it invested $3.4 million in Montreal AI Research. Tech giants Facebook and Apple have also been betting big on AI with talent appointments as well as startup acquisitions.
