Google beefs up Android security with Play Protect

Google Play Protect

Google has announced suite of Play Protect services to keep your Android devices secure. The security services aims at providing new protections and greater visibility into your device security. You will be able to see these service at work on your phone by navigating to the “My apps & games” section of the Google Play Store.

Google Play Protect

Play Protect is built into every device with Google Play and is always updating. It automatically takes action to keep your data and device safe. The service will warn you about bad apps that are downloaded from other sources. It must be noted that Google already does a security screening before making the app available in the Google Play store where it identifies malware and ensures that apps conform to Google’s policies. Google states that the service scans 50 billion apps each day using machine learning.

Google is also launching Find My Device as part of Google Play Protect that will allow you to locate, ring, lock and erase your Android devices—phones, tablets, and even watches. This feature is built in and enabled on all devices; visit android.com/find or check out the app.

Google said it will start rolling out these features over coming weeks.
