Mobile Number Portability in India by Oct 31 ?

on August 15, 2010 – 1:24 pm15 Comments

According to ET , we might finally get Mobile Number Portability in India by Oct 31 according to a statement by the TRAI chairman

“There will be no further delay in the implementation of MNP,” said The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman JS Sarma.

For those who wondering what MNP is , it a service that will allow you to retain your mobile number while switching to another operator.

We would advise you to take this news with a pinch of salt as MNP has been delayed so many times already . And with operators expected to launch 3G service in India by September, we are skeptical about the MNP rollout . Are you still hoping to get MNP by this year ?

Thx to users who sent this news !

The change is expected to increase competition, and help new mobile operators who are rolling out their services, as users will find it easier to move from one operator to another. However after an initial churn, there will not be significant shifts by subscribers from one operator to another, analysts said.

Under guidelines proposed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), mobile users will be allowed to use the same mobile number even if providers use different mobile technologies like CDMA (code division multiple access) or GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications). GSM is currently the dominant technology used by providers in India.

The MNP service was originally scheduled to be offered on Dec. 31 last year, starting with four large cities and some key service areas. It was postponed to March 31, and later to June 30, though the scope of the rollout of MNP was by then extended to cover the entire country at one go.

The government said it has taken the decision to delay MNP to October, after reviewing the readiness of the various access providers and long distance service providers, and keeping in view the complexity and enormity of the testing involved before MNP is implemented.

I faced many problems after porting.
My no. ported to rgsm on this 19th.But after porting airtel sms are coming.I recharged my this rgsm no. with 19/- sms pack yesterday. But i did get any recharge msg & also i didn’t get any benefit of 1 paisa sms.The retailer also got the successful recharge confirmation message, but i didn’t get.I also called to rgsm cc by 5-10 times.Sometimes they told me that your documents not verified, sometime kindly visit to the retailer again.I did every thing ,but my problem didn’t solve till now. After porting *777#,*123# & *999# are not working when i dial these no. it shows dear customer please try again later.I had done a big mistake to change my airtel no. to rgsm.Their customer service is too bad.
Now what should i do?Kindly tell me friends should i registered a complaint regarding this to trai?.
