Spotify acquires sound identification startup Sonalytic

Spotify has acquired sound identification startup Sonalytic. The UK based firm specializes in audio and music recognition system. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Spotify said it will use Sonalytic’s audio feature detection to improve “Spotify’s personalized playlists to matching songs with compositions to improve our publishing data system”. According to Sonalytic’s website, it uses machine learning techniques for the identification, monitoring and discovery of music. It can also track copyright-protected material.

Spotify did not offer much details about the acquisition but has asked users to “stay tuned” for new products that will come to market with the help of Sonalytic.
