Microsoft Garage launches Clip Layer app to provide easy sharing across Android

Microsoft Garage team is back this time with another app that applies a universal overlay over any screen making it quick and easy to select the information. Named as Clip Layer, the app lets you copy text anywhere from your screen including a web page and other places even if there is no way to copy.

To trigger the Clip Layer, you need to press and hold the home key, meaning you will lose the “Ok Google” option. Once triggered, tap the field you want to copy and tap the text button in the upper right corner to see what you have selected, then copy it to the clipboard, add to Wunderlist to access across different devices, email it, or share it to any other app installed on your phone.

Unlike the universal copy option, this app proves to be simple and effective. You can download it here

The app was designed by Steve Won, a senior designer with Microsoft’s Office team. This is Won’s second app after the Hub Keyboard, which uses an Android keyboard to show a clipboard, pull contact info, get document links from the cloud, translate, show web results and allow rephrasing of sentences through a thesaurus.

Steve Won, a senior designer with Microsoft’s Office team and creator of Clip Layer, said:

Like a lot of people, my phone is the center of my life. I like to share what I’ve seen, and I noticed a couple of problems unique to consuming on a smartphone.
