There are so many mobile platforms out there – Symbian , Android, iPhone , Blackberry , Windows Mobile , Palm , Maemo and now Bada. The handset market which was once dominated by Symbian and WinMo now has fierce competition from iPhone and Blackberry. Android is growing fast too. Maemo was was never destined to be used in a phone until the Nokia N900. Palm was almost out of the radar until the Palm Pre which came with the WebOS platform. But which is the best ? As a user which platform do you love and why ? Let us know in the comments !

I have been Symbian user, since I have used Smartphones-4 years.
Started with Nokia 3230, now with N82 also used UIQ on SE P1i.
I like symbian as there is so much flexibility to do things. Many apps to choose from. And major factor is many phones to choose from.
I use Blackberry platform now and like its stability, but not pleased with limited range of apps. iPhone platform intrigues because of app store and its ubiquity. I have a soft spot for Windows Mobile because it was my first smartphone platform.
Maemo5 Seem to be a mobile Linux soooo I would have to go with that one.
… and the n900 too.
i use symbian
and i would like to use maemo
Android has incredible momentum building up. I think it’ll be the eventual winner. iPhone will hold a good margin. RIM’s Blackberry is doing very well now, but will find it increasingly difficult as more business applications appear on Android and iPhone.
The first casualty of the phone wars, that is, the first platform to be discontinued will be Windows Mobile. It is failing on every measure: It’s a long time between updates, the interface is from a previous era and not friendly for finger touch; although it has numerous old applications, there are very few new applications coming; the Market for Mobile store has very few applications and has been ignored by software developers; Windows Mobile market share is plummeting.
Samsung’s bada OS won’t take over the whole market. It won’t be a must-have OS (Samsung will use Android for its high-end phones). However, it might find a nice niche in low and mid-range phones.
Nokia’s Maemo has more potential. It is more open (GPL license), and it is closer to the real Linux, which will attract developers. Plus Nokia is the world’s largest handset maker, which will give it a big boost.
I like Android. The features are awesome and the platform is growing quickly too. The Linux underneath allows for a lot of tweaking to get just what you want.
Some of this is valid for Maemo too, but it does not yet have a big enough application catalogue and is very new, so it is pretty far behind in the race.
IMO Android, Maaemo, iPhone, Blackberry and WinMo7 will be the platforms that will survive in the future, Symbian, WebOS etc are on the decline, former because of its age and not so greate adaption to touchscreen devices, and the latter simply due to much stronger competitors. WinMo6 will continue with status quo a bit like WinXP, dying a gradual death until unless WinMo7 breaks a few grounds.
I love Symbian.
I used WinMo , Android, iPhone which handsets are Higher the price and ugly looking. Switching one Symbian to another is easy in matter of sync phonebook bookmarks etc (At least I know Nokia switch app and PC Suit.)The most important is that Symbian have large number of 3rd party app and most of that are free when in beta stage. These large number of apps are not that useless crape fun apps like iPhone. We all know the camcorder capability of s60v5 and photographic capability of s60v3 over symbian OS. I uses 2 to 3 GB data over EDGE connection so symbian still rocks via opera. Used Maemo 4 but never liked it at first then never get hands on to it.(Looking for handset exactly like Nokia E900 Consept with 4.5 screen)
Android is better in matter of sync & organizing but they are too expensive.
In conclusion Symbian is the Winner if Android have not price-drop.
Definitely, I would love to work on Iphone’s platform. Reason: cos of its simplicity and also cos of its multi touch interface. Use it once and one can definitely find the difference and will never plan of rolling back. no matter wat all features a phone can carry, its interface must be very simple, user friendly.
Symbian – I LOVE THIS OS
cuz its most simple and easy yet powerful operating system.
Maemo and Symbian!
I have been totally satisfied with Symbian, and have never found it limited or old-fashioned. Perfectly stable, perfectly reliable. I’m ready to switch to Maemo though, but that’s because of my total confidence in Nokia, and because I want an n900!
I used the symbian, java ones in Nokia,Sony erricson, samsung, 5800 nokia and iPhone of all I liked the java in nokia and the iPhones OS it’s the best. Nokia is a smooth and lighter one easy to use, whereas in iPhone it’s not like that it’s a little interesting to go on with it can edit anything in the file system such as can change the pictures replace with the original ones of booting, respring etc many and the best part of iPhone is it’s touch awesome:D. And the case of symbian I dislike it junks can be entered into it many virus files I see in that symbian series in my frds mobiles I never had and never want to.and I even dislike nokia5800 it’s touch is not that good rest of that it’s good the thing in the nokia is all platforms look alike whether u take a 2,000rs phone or this nokia5800 whic is 13,000 I hope so right now both look the same the extra thing is that 5800 has music player cam etc…
No doubt symbian is still best ….it may have loose its share but if yot want a smartfone means a full fledge fone dat will fulfill ur needs u need symbian. i m a gr8 lover of symbian i started from 6600 nd now i m using n97 nd waitng for x6 to b launched in india
with future release of symbian^2 and symbian^3, it will be back in game.
I prefer and love Symbian…….i’ve been using Symbian since my Nokia 6600…..which was great…..recently i bought N79 which runs S60v3 FP2….. Symbian is good because its simple to use, many applications, its jus like a PC, its stable, and you can modify it alot….. so Symbian is the best….I would also say iPhone is next….but its brittle….the screen gets damaged if the cell falls down… my 6600 survived many falls without a scratch….
I like Symbian cause its a simple steady and flegible OS and combined with great devices like E71, E75, 5800, N86 it has no really competition.
But i feel that android and maemo will definately be great OS in future.
No comments for WM and ijoke.
i love symbian, and i have used all other oses and cam e back again to symbian
its great os i ever had .I can MOD anything and every thing i want and apps man thats a ton
.
Symbian 0s is the cheapest and popular smartphone software its has more than 40% market worldwide.
I LIKE SYMBIAN OS.
BCOZ ITS FEEL COMPUTER SOFTWARE OPRATE,ITS MOST SIMPLE,EASY AND POWERFUL OS.MANY APPS TO CHOOSE FROM SITES.
all the platforms, it depends on UI customization and ease…..
I have an N95. Great phone, but I think that S60 is getting to the end of it’s run. I had the iphone for a week and took it back. Made me weep. A really nice phone. You could call it sexy, but it just did not perform. a great looker. the app store is great etc, but… virtually no multi tasking, poor bluetooth support, Tribal battery life. Need I go on.
I can not wait to get hold of an N900. I am very excited about Maemo. I know the N900 is going to be like the first iphone, that is a work in progress, but I think is is going to stand head and shoulders above the iphone in the years to come.
I like Symbian and Android.
I am using Windows Mobile & in my opinion, it is one of the Best & Simplest. Use MS Office Files, take them anywhere you like, transfer them to any PC etc. One of the Ideal Example is Toshiba TG1 or HTC Diamond. Windows Mobile 6.5 is simply Superb. Contacts, Appointments, Notes, To Do etc. can be organised in the Best way. In fact I heard that Nokia & Microsoft shall co-operate, I pray for it too.
Android is going to be the winner. Most of the OEMs started working on Android and many third party application are coming up on it. Android’s fully customizable UI can attract more people.
@Faisal: what do you mean by fully customizable UI for Android?
I’ve used all the platforms u mentioned, except web os.. And i find mac osx the best.
The 2 things which makes it outstanding are…
1. The interactivity
2. App store
Palm is concentrating more on the first point where as Android on the 2nd…
Nokia has very lately realised the impotance of OS. Lets see how the new nokia’s OS is.
Hi
I have been in love ever since i saw Maemo.
It’s just great man. Everything aabout it is great.
then there’s android, i also like android, i think this is the os of the future, i mean google is keeping on developing this latform. there’s only way that it is gonna go.
as per the other platofrms… i don’t like the symbian, i have used it 4/5 yrs back on 3650.
WinMo is good, but strictly for business not entertainment, it still cannot support screens with more than 64k. that tells u all.
SYMBIAN 60. BUT IT IS EXPENSIVE.BRANDS SHULD TRY TO MAKE IT Chttp://www.fonearena.com/blog/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-formHEAP SO THAT ALL CAN USE THIS.
I ve used Symbian & Blackberry and ve a bit of others too. In fact all these have their own significances and limitations. none is perfect.
I have been an ardent fan of symbian…My first symbian based phone was nokia 6600..and to tell u i really loved that phone…
I like symbian because it can be customized according to the type of users…Though it doesn’t have the required applications, v can have the 3rd party software support..
after symbian i would go for Iphone OS because it has created a revolution with its new interface..
Given i’ve only ever used Iphone, WebOs, Android, and Winmo, i will only review them. I think the winner in the future is going to be android. I mean its google they breed success. Iphone was great for its time but they are really lacking and i think the only thing thats going to keep them a top 3 favorite is the customer loyalty and the ideal that its cool to have an apple. Winmo sucks, nuff said. But my favorite is Webos. I play with phones all day and if we’re basing this solely of the OS and not the hardware i would go with WebOs. Maybe its just me but i find it incredibly easy to use. I find everything i need on it fast and the app catalog is more then sufficient now. I dont do many of the apps becuz im cheap and seriously if i need to find anything i just google on my phone. Hardware could use a little work on the Pre but im excited to see palms next major phone. I am somewhat concerned about Palms life expectancy. They dont really seem to be catching on so if they go under I hope someone buys the rights to their OS.
Maemo – if they can keep useful apps coming.
I had a blackberry for years (forced by work) and cant stand browsing . it is physically painful to get information off the net on one.
Symbian is hell at many times. Phones running on Symbian hang most frequently & many times automatically switch off without any reason which create a lot of problems. Also at present Symbian is the slowest OS present in the market. Now a days Symbian is growing at lowest speed as compared to other OS.But phones running on Android never slow down never hang up never switch off automatically. Also Android is the fastest growing OS now a days.Phones running on Android runs the fastest. So guyz Android is surely going to be the Future OS.
tell me any android phone which has simple feature of FM Radion? Only 1 phone has that. Any phone with decent camera in android? none.
Also why these android phones are so costly if android is free/open?
Its just waste of money to buy apple, android, palm.
They are fail, more of USA oriented which is living in stone age.
Nökia 6700 5mp camera not best.
for me symbian is the best
most flexible
most friendly
most easy
and,supports almost every thing.
I think there is no need of this poll as i m a hard core SYMBIAN fan ..i have used the 6681,3230,6600 , N70 and now the 5800XM and i really loved using it…Its fully customisable and i dont think that any other platform can give competition to SYMBIAM …..
difficult for anyone to actually make a decision unless they have used the said OS’s…. i’ve been using winmo for awhile now and am completely taken up by its flexibility and apps available….freeware galore….apple and blackberry while being great OS’s, also better integration as they make both OS and phone, do not have the flexibility of a winmo platform…
Symbian is better. All other OSs consume more power less apps. Symbian is efficient. Further editions in symbian will easily manage the newer technological developments in mobile world.
