The Samsung SCH-W880 is the Korean variant of the Samsung M8920 about which we posted yesterday.
The Samsung SCH-W880 has been announced in Korea today. It is the world’s first 12MP camera-phone with Optical Zoom. It can be said as a camera that adds phone functionality.
The features of the SCH-W880 are:
- 12 Megapixel Camera with Autofocus, 3x Optical Zoom, 6x Digital Zoom, Video Recording of 720p (1280*720 pixels).
- Touch Auto Focus, Image Stabilisation, Face Detection and Smart Auto.
- Xenon Flash and LED Flash
- 3.3 inch AMOLED Touchscreen with WVGA (800*480) Resolution
- 4GB Internal Memory, Micro-SD Card Slot
It will be launched in the Korean market early next month.

I do think this Samsung star phone is unique, as far as I know no other manufacturer has developped such a phone camera (yes and not a camera phone!). I do think that taking pictures with this beast is a piece of cake however what I am worried about are the phone qualities of this phone. I mean it doesn’t boast WiFi or GPS (for geotagging those beautiful pictures you made). Still this could be a real alternative to normal digital camera’s in that light it is even better than the SE Satio which doesn’t have an optical zoom.
