Here is some news that might cheer up all the iPhone fans. Finally after much delay, iPhone 3G S is all set to launch in India. Apple has decided it will launch iPhone 3G S this coming September 2009.

The iPhone 3G S which is being launched on September 19, is however coming out with an horrendous price tag of Rs. 36000 for a 16GB iPhone 3G S and something around Rs 40,000 for the 32 GB version. Also there are some speculations going on that the older version of the iPhone 16GB might be discontinued.
So will this ridiculous price tag dampen your plan of buying the iPhone 3G S? Or would you still go ahead and buy it? Do Pass on your comments.

If you know someone in Dubai, he has to go to the Etisalat outlet and get the phone without any conditions. The Apple Online store is online again and once again Apple took so long to just update products like iMacs and Mac mini… Nothing about iPhone 3GS… I think it pretty clear now that India is definitely not on Apple’s list.

It was online last night and again this morning it went down for updation.However, this time the message is even shorter than before. Till yesterday it was “This section is updating and we will be back soon” and now it says “This section will be updated shortly”.
I saw it online yesterday 11:30PM.
It was up yesterday afternoon and it went down again today morning. Don’t know what they are up to

dude the shop in sukh sagar mall ground floor says he has the 3gs 16gb priced at 35k…he says it is factory unlocked but how do i make sure that it is indeed factory unlocked
Ask him to connect to itunes – update it to version 3.1.2 and then insert your sim card and see if it works. If it works then it is factory unlocked. This is the sure shot way of finding out whether its factory unlocked or not. I guess if the shop owner is claiming that its factory unlocked then he should not have problem in doing so
At times behind the iphone box the country/carrier to which it belongs is written like AT&T in case of imported from US. You may want to check that also.
Updating to 3.1.2 might brick the phone .. so don’t pay if its bricked
dude …go on an update the phone with 3.1.2 ..blacksn0w is out . it will unlock your phone in 20 sec… i did it few mins back ….. just released 10 mins back

Sorry for the late reply Kunal… pls visit shop “Gurudev”, SukhSagar Shopping mall, Gandhinagar …. after entering the mall .. go straight …. leftside 4th shop. Ask for Factory Unlocked Not Jailbroken(sealed box)

No problems. I unfortunately live in mumbai so dont know this place. Do you mean factory unlocked phones are sealed and not opened at all.
What i see in mumbai grey market is the boxes are opened i can wilfully surf on the phone by switching it on and do other things as a trial. i guess those are jailbroken.
Can you explain in more layman language? I quite a dumb in all this

In case anyone of you from Bangalore are interested in getting an unlocked iPhone 3GS, then just go to Sukh Sagar Plaza next to National Market in Gandhinagar. I just saw a few 32GB phones in one shop over there. The guy was quoting 45k. The box was opened and he claimed it comes open because they unlock the phones and then sell them. The phones he had looked brand new, and I have dealt with this guy earlier. He seems to be quite a genuine fellow.

Yes it will, just pop in any SIM, if u get a locked one then u need a Airtel or Vodafone for it to work.But the HK one will work with any SIM

but dude the etisalat website does not mention that the iphone is factory unlocked….moreover it has a 12 month contract….how can u be so sure that it is factory unlocked

dude….no offence, but u need to go thru the etisalat web page a bit more closely…u can notice that the 12 months contract holds valid only for the “3G”…the “3GS” is offered as “standalone device” …..meaning officially unlocked!!!
hope i have cleared ur doubt…..and yeah…the phone is not releasin here before christmas for sure…

I am fed up of waiting for an official iPhone 3GS in India. All I want to know is, if anyone knows of a place in Delhi that sells factory unlocked 3GS (Model no. – Australia: MC133X, MC134X; New Zealand: MC134X/A; Singapore: MC131ZA, MC133ZA; Malaysia: MC134MY, MC133MY, MC131MY, MC132MY/A, MC132MY; Hong Kong: MC134ZP/A) in sealed box and for how much.
I do not want a non-sealed package cos I know of all the tricks that these stupid little vendors play and especially since a permanent unlock (hardware) just like the factory unlock (I know what this term means) is possible (a friend of mine in Gaffar knows how).

When i visited apple store 2 months ago they told me it will be avalable near diwali , second time they told me in 1st week of nov , now they r saying on X-mas …. but really i dont trust them now ..
some says the delay is due to stock prob world wide , other says that they are facing some issues in the contract done with airtel and vodafone … dont know whats true but now i am thinking that may be its just too late to buy iphone 3gs because i heard that they are planning to launch next-Gen Iphone …(new version )
I have got some useful information here people. I contacted some guy through an online ad and he has 3GS 16GB white/ black for Rs. 31,900 in sealed packaging!
You can contact the guy at mobilehunt[dot]org[at]gmail[dot]com if you wanna buy. He does pick up and pay but sadly, just in Mumbai (that’s why not useful for me as I want pickup in Delhi). If you are comfortable he can courier it or something but just ask him

Saurabh my sentiments exactly with you even i have given up hope of 3gs launch dont know what these apple guys are thinking i mean they say stock issues but they just launched iphone in china and about vodafone airtel issues again its selling iphone through vodafone in other countries i agree policies will be different but still managment is the same and my dear about next iphone i would say we got first generation iphone when 2nd generation was launched in u.S then we got 3g when 3gs was gonna launch and so is the case with 3gs so what makes you think that they will release the 4th generation iphone in india??

Guys I’m already having iPhone 3g and i was waiting for 3gs to be launched here in india, but instead of 3gs I’m now looking for nokia n 900 which will be out this month and I’m getting a good deal at eBay so now I’m confused shud I wait for 3gs or shud I buy unlocked nokia n900 which runs on maemo 5 and is much faster than the iPhone.

My cousin is buying apple 3gs with atnt contractin USA..tryin to break the contract for me..but atnt has become very stringent..
if she is able to break iphoe 3gs conttract with atnt wit penaly and code breaking it will coar me roud 24,000 INR..which is cheaper n better option den buyin at high cost…
doesn anybody have any better reasons to break apple 3gs contract with atnt n get the phone to India at this cost….
