Good News for all the Nokia 5800 users, A new firmware update (v 31.0.0.15) is in the offing.

Recently, Nokia Conversations released their “Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 Introduction” video on Youtube.  But if you watch the video attentively, at the 0:57 second of the video, you can clearly see that the Firmware version of the Nokia 5800 is showing as v.31.0.015.  And also Steve Litchfield of All About Symbian has also quoted in one of their articles that v31 firmware was the stable release inside Nokia a couple of weeks ago and he suspects it will appear in public this week.

Here is the snapshot of the video where the phone is being updated to v31.0.0.15 of the firmware.

Now I am seriously anticipating the new changes, this firmware update can bring along.

A new homescreen (viz Nokia 5530),
Or A Widgetized Homescreen (viz Nokia N97),
Kinetic Scrolling etc

What changes do you expect in the new firmware update? Do pass on your comments.

It also says it’s being updated from v15.0.0.15, which never existed…

  • Sachu says:

homescreen with more than 4 friends contact bar. may be 29 like the 5530. Capability to have contacts bar, shortcut bar and calendar together in the screen. and if processor wont bother some widgets too.

a better browser is very important and some back and fwd control for browser while running in full screen. A better mail client will also be good probably with html support (iam sure i can only dream abt it, he he)

all contacts in contacts should appear with their pics rather than just showing up only the one which is selected. a good gallery and a new music player. i think iam asking too much. Shall stop here. so what do u gys think abt these..

  • Vikas SN says:

@Breed Probably because that version was never released to the public and it was a firmware for only dev phones.

  • Vikas SN says:

    @Sachu
Ya even I would love some widgets on the homescreen and an email client with full HTML support.

  • Michael says:

It would be helpful to mention if the firmware is for Europe or North American (NAM) versions of the 5800.

  • Jeremy says:

Still no v21 for RM-418 NAM model yet the rest of the world has had it 2 months now, not holding my breath for a NAM release of the v31 firmware if it ever comes!! Hopeful just not holding my breath…

  • Jhon says:

It would be wonderful if it would add a widget on the home screen and make it 4 screens controlled by the accelerometer(like on the iphone) in any direction….and I’d like also to make the camera on full screen and make the update world wide without any Hacks….and restore the pre loaded music and videos and add audio themes and text to speech

  • Anuraj kumar says:

    Its very exiting
im expecting nokia to do a lot of changers
the phon shold be more faster and music player should be enhanced

  • Roberto says:

Automatic going into fullscreen while browsing like n97 would be great, automatic update, better rss feed, updated podcast directory, much more better e-mail client (like nokia messaging), larger scroll bar in wide screen in music player, widgets …

there are a lot of things they could do better.

i´m hope it will not be only a small update

  • Vikas SN says:

    @Roberto

Fullscreen while browsing would be simply awesome. And Ya even I feel that its been a long time since the Podcast Directory has been updated.

  • Gurhan says:

  • Sanjeev says:

One feature I’m long awaiting in Nokia smart phones is that if I should be able to hear only audio of some movie etc (may be I’m commuting in a crowded bus), may be by just slide-locking the device (at present, when we slide-lock the device while a movie is playing, the movie stops altogether).

For god sake, if we want to stop movie, we would do it manually and not be locking the device…

  • Ameya says:

i m desperately waiting for update on nokia 5800.i purchased this phone for its excelent music purpose and proving that true it has very good sound quality.but when it comes to listening the music in crowded area such as trains, buses or even when u r driving it has very low sound and another thing is that it doesnt have such a great camera,5.1 mp would have been better.hope so that newer update will solve the problem.thanx

  • dhruv says:

I hope i win because i havent got a phone proper boring i need one bad and the nokia 5800 rocks

  • Surya says:

The update is available in India through OTA.The version is 30.0.011 and version date is 29-06-09.I updated my phone just now.

  • Sanjeev says:

    I don’t think v31.xx exists for 5800.

The Youtube video clearly stated that all images were “simulated”. That explains the existing version shown as to be V15.xxxx

Moreover, just yesterday I successfully downloaded V30.0.xx from some forums and installed the same successfully. But to my dismay, no improvement or new applications or whatever change was found. Even though version was updated to 30 something.

  • Vikas SN says:

@Sanjeev There are some minor changes in the version 30 firmware of Nokia 5800. You can check them here. http://www.fonearena.com/blog/2009/07/28/nokia-5800-xm-firmware-v30-0-011-out-so-whats-new.html

  • hamed says:

Well to be honest I’m not expecting a huge change as long as they dint put a lot of work when moving from v20 to v21 , so please don’t make fancy imaginations since Nokia is not giving sh** to 5800 users.
    SADLY.

  • Russian says:

  • shantanu says:

hi, i have been having trouble since d v 30 firmware was installed ota by me. The phone initiall had a garbled display and was repaired by nokia care which too 3 weeks! Since then d display is alright but new things started. For example all my msgs, contacts, get deleted on their own, n though i have set it to autobackup, on restoring i still have zero messages. This happened today. I had created a my folder with two sub folders, sent n recd n keep moving messages to them. They were all there till yesterday but when i woke up today, my msg were 0 everywhere that is inbox, sent, drafts, and my folder were all zero and when i restore from backup it shows data baked up last on 23 aug!! That when it is supposed to be backing up data every day. Secondly is the annoying problem where when i click on screen menu the touch actually activates d button on d right! Which means if i’m putting my finger on 4 the digit typed is 6. Reinstalled d firmware today but this annoyance still persists. I feel nokia has what could easily be an i-phone beating phone but their overpriced products, bad quality control n testing, n worst their callous attitude towards customers has turned it into a bad phone. I like this phone, but i don’t expect to get a repaired phone when i paid for a new one, but that’s what happened when d screen had stopped working as they repaired and gave it back. Secondly u get bluetooth stereo earphones with motorola phones that come for rs. 11000, but nokia doesn’t give it even with this phone worth rs. 21000 if this is not cheap, what is?

  • selvarajan says:

I bought the phone at 19,800 when it was introduced I feel like a fool now . With in a short period, Nokia is thinking of phasing out this phone ! After the soon to be announced price cut, 5800 will retail for just 14,000 odd. I didn’t even get life time GPS maps. People who buy late get all the goodies (In new Nokia 5800 Maps(voice navigation is free for life!). I will never again be an early adopter.

  • vivek raj karki says:

ya dude… i got that software today… but bull **** … no new homescreen…no kinetic scroling no nothing… only new maps that i had already updated via map updater…. but at least i’m facing less of those certificate error after the upgrade….

hey why don’t we all 5800 users pressure these damn software makers to update home screen and that scroling… lets unite and take steps… lets talk to every care centres near to us and every blog on every website…

i just wonder why the hell is that feature not on our phone and it is in some thing similar phone that is even more cheaper…

i can’t afford to carry n 97 coz i loose lodz of cell phone and i don’t wanna fall down to other phones but i just need those features….

    so… what’s the deal…???

ARE WE ALL READY…?????we need all good features that we deserve…

  • vivek raj karki says:

    And my friend selvarajan…

i think we should raise voice for free lifetime map liscence too…

  • Harish says:

this version has only ovi maps pre-installed and bug fixes.

  • Amit says:

Man when we will get this update waitin eagerly

  • Monte Titan says:

the expired certificate is certainly a pain that needs to be resolved and also they could support few various video formats other that mp4,3gpp and flash.
Although i doubt abt this next firmware update itself :(
