Is there a chance that there will be an upgrade scheme for existing iPhone customers in India (who have bought in India)?

  • Dev says:

If this awesome gadget is launching here in India with the price tag as shown by the resources then it will be a huge market chng for oll toher products coz a 3g phone on this or any price tag under 20K .its huge hit evn b4 its launch..i wish the rates doesnt cross 18 to 20 K

  • Raju says:

I am planning to buy Nokia e71 or 5800. if price for iPhone is about Rs.20,000 I would rather buy iPhone than Nokia junk phones.
Let Apple know that there is market for apple products provided they are affordable to the middleclass and upper middle class.

  • karteek says:

when iphone 3g s will be released in india (hyderabad) what is the cost of it……

  • Chintan says:

It will be definitely above 30K though iphone 3g price may fall.

  • himanshu says:

is apple iphone launch in patiala

  • Varun says:

    @Swaroop C H

I doubt if we will get an upgrade scheme in india :-)

But let me get in touch with folks who might have the answer

And are you creator of counteverycoin ?

  • Muthu Online says:

An upgrade scheme would sound perfect and would prevent existing customers from feeling bad.

  • Mahesh says:

First off, The iphone will be around the same 31k/36k respectively the main reason being, there is no subsidy like the US, where they actually pay close to 1600$ a year for the phone… we are in much MUCH better condition.

Secondly, its coming to india on August 9th… Called up Airtel :)

  • Sid says:

Definately going to buy this phone (unlocked from delhi). I have had enough of these crap nokia. Pathetic build and come up with proalems every day. Plus the touch of my 5800 sucks, its slow and is very buggy. Going to sell it on ebay.

  • Pupss says:

Well….My calculation says, the price of iPhone 3G S in India would be around 35k+. Just wish there should be a upgrade scheme for existing iPhone user. I request Sunil uncle to do something about it. he..he..he….

  • Varun says:

    Pupss,

    Sunil uncle ?

You mean Sunil Bharti Mittal ?

  • kiran says:

    Guys,
you can upgrade to apple OS 3.0. wait and confirm whether iphone 3g or iphone 3g’S’ will launch? go for 3gS only for better internet network speeds and video recording with 3MP camera & more…
Do you know? Apple iPhone hs the 1 &only 1 mobile phone with successful multi-touch (dual-as of now)…so go for it!

    Cheers..Kiran-Hyd-India.

  • naren says:

can i buy the iphone 3GS in USA without the AT&T connection? just the phone… im a new user…

  • ANJAN MEHRA says:

I want to know when apple iphone 3g is available in india below 31k and how much we can upgrade this 3g like speed and software and as compare to 3gs.

  • Amol Sonthalia says:

see apple is great company but da it really sucks in terms of pricing in India…4000…u know any Auto driver can purchase dis phone…it’s my request 2 apple please tc f ur old customers also…3g 1’s i bought it on 32….

  • Raj says:

Apple iPhone 3GS is scheduled to release on August 09, 2009 in India. It is expected by myself and many others to retain the prices of the old iPhone 3G which will then be sold approx. 5000-6000 rupees cheaper and only the 8 GB version will be available. While as many know 3GS is offered in 16 GB and 32 GB variants.

Now, it should be cleared that no one can get the new 3GS or 3G at 5000 rupees($99). The only way for people in India to get 3GS is from ebay US among the many sites that offer worldwide shipping. The lowest price there for the 3GS is $800(Rs. 40,000). Also, remember while ordering from abroad you are liable to pay custom duties which is different from shipping costs.

iPhone 3G price in USA, in US Dollars = 99$ (Rs. 5000 approx). What people do not understand or have no idea that iPhones are sold at $99, $199, $299 only because they are contract based, meaning that no matter what they have to pay for 12 or more months about around $65 (Rs. 3250) per month. Do the math and we are talking about over $1000 (Rs. 50,000).

Hence, the misconception related to the price of iPhone shouldn’t arise also considering the fact that it is high-end device.

I hope now the price of iPhone in India is justified. We in India have extremely low call rates in comparison to that in U.S. And our mobile operator companies do not offer contract-based subscription planes like they do in the U.S.

  • Varun says:

    Raj,

Great comment . One of the best we have had on the blog for sometime.

    Really appreciate it !

  • Ranesh says:

    @Raj
“to retain the prices of the old iPhone 3G which will then be sold approx. 5000-6000 rupees cheaper”

why do you think that it would not be sold cheaper than that? Airtel and Vodafone both know that if they can get the iPhone 3G selling price around 18k, they have a winner on their hands. They can use the “economies of scale” argument to pressurise Apple to supply the handsets much cheaper than for what it does now. Considering that isuppli had estimated that the manufacturing cost for the iPhone 3G were around $173 (or aboutRs. 9000), this does not seem to be a far-fetched argument, does it? :-)

  • Sahil B says:

dude how do u no its 9th august … m waitin 2 get it bukd ….
do update rgrdng launch in india ….

  • Sahil B says:

vtever u told rgrdng d pricing strategies it ws prfct bt ppl here arnt aware abt d damn thng … dey beliv dat $200 hw cud dat b psbl … pricing is same worldwide .. difference is hw mch money d carriers making out of it … those at&t ppl chrgng high amt. which here ppl cnt even thnk off … anybdy whos actly aware about the apple thing or “i” thing wud actly consider it worth 30000, nobdy els will …. its not an ordinary thng .. its apple nd amazing lik anythng … i jst cnt wait 2 own 1 …

  • danypraveen says:

My guess wud be iphone 3g will be now b cheaper wud b like not less than 26-27k.3gs will be 32k and 38k.its not that u simply convert dollar to rupee and estimate the price.

do u know 95% of users r prepaid thats the reason y iphone is not subsidised if the carriers say 2yrs contract min bill be like $70(rs3500) monthly(as many r convertng $-Rs) thn indians too will be able get iphone at $100 means u own iphone @rs5000 u will end up paying 76k($1520) minimum in 2yrs.so it will be like $1620.
we indians prefer prepaid we decide how much to use per month.
so buy iphone at 35k(if u r Iphone fan) toh airtel r vodafone min 2yrs as most of the customers r frm these only.prepaid use will b same for calls
they r giving somethng like 500 mb i guess for 6months.thn after wards ……..u know they charge around rs10/mb these carriers.so u will end up paying more than wht we actually calculate.

what we shud hav is unlimited data access it shud not be not more than 200-300pm as the speed will nevr go beyond 40kbps and DOT shud interfere in this, prices shud b kept accordng the speeds they give.so ridiculous that we r paying for data thats not more than dial up speeds but end up payng the charges of 3g/brdbnd.

bsnl mtnl 3G unlimited charges r 2500pm frankly speaking it actually fair if they really give minimum of 1mbps.as private players come thn i think it will decrease to rs1500-1800 but if always above 1mbps.remember it has freedom of mobility to access internet at such high speeds.

at the end of the day the phone which has gud internet featrs(ofcrse not only this) wins, which shud alwys be aprctd by gud data charges by these companies then india can browse more internet and faster than ever b4

  • Charan says:

The Iphone 3GS would be Launched on 9th August in India, The Price is 32000/- for 16GB Version and 39000/- for 32GB Version. I got the Information from one of my Friends who is working with Airtel.

  • Sahil B says:

thnks bro … hop ur dates r accurate … cz apple rumors r always dr …. he cud psbly gt me some discount 2 dn .. lol ..
ny update rgrdng data plan nd stuff …

  • Sahil B says:

u really made my day … thnks fr tellin d date .. i enquird evrywhr bt nobdy knows at airtel customer cr not even vodafn ppl ..
kep updatin … ru also sure abt d prices …

  • Charan says:

As of now I dont have any further Updates, but will post as soon as I get any.

  • kranthi says:

    wat ll be the price

  • kranthi says:

please make the price below 10,000 rs so that lot of mobiles ll be sold in india

  • Mucow says:

In India only the young genernation and that too, only 2 out of 10 people knows about iPhone. Secondly the prices are so much high that one cannot even think out it.

The Apple Inc. should sell iPhone 3GS (16GB) not more than 20K here in India. The Co. should learn a lesson from the previous launch of iPhone in india. If the Co. wants to think BIG, wants to have good sale etc. than they have to have too think for prices before they launch new model.

I was interested to buy a iPhone but just b’cos of the very high prices I changed my mind and buy Nokia E71 for 19K.

Apple Inc. = Still there is time to wake up…… its INDIA. Once again think on ur prices.

  • mohan says:

hello .can any one tell me what the actual price of new model iphone is going to be in india .as it has benn said that it would range below RS-12000

  • Ankur says:

Iphone 3G S rates will be as follow:-

    32,000 for 16gb model.
    39,000 for 32gb model.

Existing 8gb model will cost smthing ard 25,000-27,000…

  • danypraveen says:

in italy the prices are euros619(Rs42000) for 16bg and 32 gb for euros719(Rs4900),outright purchase.so looks like its gonna b costly than we expect.so………in india the prices will b higher i guess.its like how we got a shock on 3g price the same mite b repeated this yr too.
now the qn is how many will buy if its more than rs30000.as u can c sales hardly crossed 5000 sets in india.
probably india shud subsidise it airtel vodafone shud start the same contract like thing atleast 2yr contract with good plans thn i guess many will buy
    Ex:-
iphone 2yrs contract .in india its not possible but link some docs so that the customer cant escape.
    say 30k phone-2yrs monthly rs1000 fr phone *24000 in 2yrs
left is 6000 that shud b downpymnt or else take more say rs10000
    so we cn also buy
along with it data plan 500mb/m or more
talktime same netwrk 150-200min evry month free how this can b posible(we pay 4000 more dwnpymnt in that they can take it as spl charges we do for 60p per call is actually rs60/m u know actually same netwrk charges r very less in this way they can custmr base and all the whole over all talktime min in that netwrk in this cstmr and ntwrk prvdr both r placed in gud position.

  • Vishu says:

I really hope the 3GS 16GB costs less than or equal to 32k…cuz if it’s anything above that i’d have to settle with a 3G 8GB instead :(

  • mg says:

I bought the iPhone 3Gs 32GB black from the US at 699$. Thats roughly 33,500 Rs. calculated at existing rates. The 699$ is a no commitment price, but the phone is still locked to the AT&T network. I had to unlock the phone with RedSn0w and Ultrasn0w to use it with Airtel. I did this in the US when i was roaming on T-Mobile.

I initially went to the AT&T store with a friend who had a AT&T connection but the lady there gave me a bunch of bullshit and basically didn’t sell me the phone. Next day i walked into the Apple store and just picked it up, just like that!

I did not want to go through the unlock hassle, but i heard that the 32Gig 3Gs is going to be priced closer to 40k. I just decided balls to Airtel and Vodaphone, i’d rather save 7k and unlock the phone. Now i realise that jailbreaking the phone actually allows me to do a lot of stuff not possible on a locked phone.

BTW, iPhones available from Airtel and Vodaphone will also be locked. Meaningm, you can only use it with Airtel and Vodaphone respectively.

    Cheers!

  • Basujit says:

I was at the Airtel Relationship Centre today and asked them about the Iphone 3g S. They said its likely to come in only sometime in September. And I thought India was one of the biggest market for cellphones.

  • wasim says:

YES BASUJIT BUT WHAT HAPPENED IS GREY MARKET ROCKED A LOT INSTEAD OF OFFICIAL WILL U BELIVE WE ARE SELLING EVERYDAY 1 IPHONE 3GS N YET HAV STOCK TO SELL

  • Basujit says:

@wasim – Thats really interesting information. I would also like to but the I phone 3gS. Because of such a big delay in its entry into India, I am gettin more and more bent towards buying it from the grey market.

  • Vishu says:

but if we buy the 3gs from grey market, what would we do if the battery of the iphone fails or deteriorates after some use or some hardware problem arises?…one solution is to send it to apple but that wouldn’t be possible…

  • Kowshik says:

  • kowshik says:

  • MK$ says:

Hi guys this is just to inform you that if any body is in plan to take this dream phone please wait till 22nd of august. Reason is i my self booked 3G phone on 25 july from airtel but while taking delivery they told that it will be benefit if i wait till 22nd august as 3Gs will be lunched so dont be in hurry cause now time over. Last thing price is not yet confirmed i will let you asap- MK$

  • Vishu says:

  • ankit nanda says:

    hello ppl,
i am also equally desperate to get the iphone 3gs….but the price seems to be over the hill…did u guys check the price in thailand where it is to be released as on 28th august…it is 36000INR for 16GB
and 40000INR 32GB and that too subsidized….so i am only guessing what price would we be gettin these phones at…and may be thats the reason that airtel and vodafone are not that ready to get the phone in to the market at this pace…as if the prices are above 36k then very less people are going to buy it….

    :(
