You just read about Google giving away free android phones to developers.

We thought it was the HTC Magic but then looks like Google has branded the handset as ION to mark the occasion – Google I/O

Folks from AndroidandMe have posted some great unboxing pictures of the phone.

Some of their observations include

- Does not include IM application as seen in T-Mobile builds.
- Model number: Google Ion
- Firmware version: 1.5
- Baseband version: 62.505.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
- Kernel version: 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf – android-build@apa27 #72
- Build number: CRB28
- Includes 2GB micro SD card.
- Battery is 1450maH
- Camera at first glance is obviously Google build, but probably 3.2MP, there is no marking on the back of the camera but a Google I/O 09 Developers Conference custom print
