Well over the last few years we have grown to love the IPhone and some people questioned whether Apple could really improve on the previous IPhone OS. Today Apple gave us a peek at the new IPhone OS which is schedule for release in the summer.

Below I have listed a number of the big enhancements to the OS.

  • Search your iPhone
    • So the folks at Apple created an app called “Spotlight”. Spotlight is a new home screen that you do all your searching from. Searching your calendar, email and notes are among the few applications you can search through.
  • Cut, copy, and paste
    • Of all the features that people have long been waiting for Copy and Paste is probably one of the biggest. It’s worth mentioning that you can select multiple pictures, copy them and then paste them into a new message.

Below is a screen shot illustrating this functionality.

To “Undo” changes you can simply shake the phone!

  • Send photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service)
    • The single biggest feature that Apple has introduced is the ability to send photos, contacts, audio files and your location via MMS. This is no doubt going to increase the usage of MMS. I never really used MMS before but with these new features I can see myself utilizing this feature a whole lot more.

  • Read and compose email and text messages in landscape
    • Apple users and indeed anyone that I know love the landscape feature and why Apple never incorporated this feature into all the applications by default I don’t know. Now you have the ability to both compose and read text messages in landscape view. From what I can see from the demos you will be able to view everything in landscape view.

  • Text messaging
    • A really nice feature that I could see myself using is the new forward and delete multiple messages. It wasn’t fun having to tab the screen 3 different times to delete one message!

Let’s wait and see what RIM’s and Microsoft’s response will be
