When Asus released its P565 smartphone in November 2008, we at Fonearena had covered the launch. Read the coverage here.

The latest reports in from sources claim that the company has pulled the plug on this handset after entering into a partnership with Garmin (a Taiwanese company) from the beginning of last month onwards.

While the handset was supposed to debut in France last month, it now seems unlikely.

Asus’ alliance with Garmin is adversely affecting the availability of older Asus handsets, perhaps because the latter prefers to concentrate more on its co-developed phones.

So will the P565 be re-launched as an Asus-Garmin co-developed handset? Only time will tell!
