The DOT of Department of Telecom has asked all Operators to ban handsets without a legitimate IMEI number on January 6th.
This directive comes as a fight against terror as these handsets are being used by terrorists as they do not have an IMEI number in them. There are as many as 25 million unbranded handsets imported from China and Korea that are believed to be on the knife’s edge.
They have asked operators to block mobiles with fake IMEI numbers like all zeroes .
The Indian Government has postponed the previous deadline for Operators from 6th January 2009 to March 31 2009.
So be careful when purchasing these Chinese or other imported handsets ..
You might even be questioned by the authorities .

Hey anant!!!
please ban all the china mobile it is a big effect to all standard mobile companies and easy to all criminals to do there criminial activities i request to Government to ban this products.
First of all government should ban import and sells of china mobiles in Indian markets. Many shops are still selling those mobiles. Government should take necessary actions to stop the sells. So many innocent people especially from rural areas are not aware of this ban and still purchasing new china mobiles. The government and operators should desiminate information about this ban to the public as early as possible.

In those china and korean mobiles. If one can’t able to use GPRS then these china and korean mobiles are going to be banned on 3rd week of march 2009. Definitely they are going to ban it. Even my friend is running a mobile shop he bought korean mobiles for 4 lakhs. That too 4 months before.
So far he had sold only 50000 rupees mobiles. He is very much worried about the fact. He too agree with the ban. So brothers and sisters please don’t waste your money in buying those mobiles hereafter.
today june 23 , 2009 .. alll china mobiles are working fine … and my friend started a chinees mobile shop [:)]
