Will you get your Vodafone iPhone on easy instalments?

The price of the 3G iPhone stumped those who were eagerly awaiting its launch in India. To counter the ‘non-affordability’ factor doing the rounds among buyers, Vodafone has decided to offer the handset of easy 6 monthly or 12 monthly instalments.

It is rumoured that the company is holding talks with financial institutions to initiate a tie-up.

At the current rate of interest, we envisage an EMI of up to Rs 7000 for 6 months and at least Rs 4000 for a 12 month scheme. Steep for a handset we would say!!!

At the moment, both Airtel and Vodafone are tight lipped about this development.

Does this mean they accept that the handset has been pegged high enough to solicit a financial scheme, which may not work out in the long run? Or are they happy that the financial scheme may bring in those buyers who were caught off-guard by the high pricing?

Only time will tell.
