The Q1 of 2008 was pretty happening for Symbian. The company saw 18.5 million handsets being shipped in Q1 with Symbian OS. There has been increase in the number of Symbian phone shipments by almost 17%. No wonder, the most preferred smart phone OS is backed by the Numero Uno handset manufacturer in the world. World’s leading manufacturers ship phone carrying the Symbian OS and by now Symbian has seen a cumulative 200 million handsets being shipped with Symbian OS. Cellular News reports that, “The world’s five leading handset vendors announced nine products based on Symbian OS v9 during Q1 2008 including UIQ-based Motorola Z10, Sony Ericsson G700 and Sony Ericsson G900 as well as S60-based LG KT610, Nokia N96, Nokia N78, Nokia 6210 Navigator, Nokia 6220 classic and Samsung G810.”
Though Symbian is the market leader when it come to smart phone OS it seems they are working more towards expanding their OS to other mobile phones, which I think is not a good idea, they should focus on working on the smart phone market as, smart phones are poised to grow.
