Iphone has finally released their pricing details via their exclusive indian carrier Vodafone. The 8GB model would cost around Rs.15960 and the 16GB model would cost around Rs.19960, both available only on exclusive 2 year contract with Vodafone. No exact details about the launch dates are available as of now.

Very Very Surprising prices. History says that apple has been selling its products after charging the custom duties and taxes which effectively doubles its prices, and now selling iphone for 15K odd. But then, thinking that Vodafone will get the customers for two years might just do the trick. And one thing sure, you will see and iphone with almost everyone in India.

I dont think that price for iPhone will same as in US.
If you tally prices for iPods suffels (1GB ) price in india is RS 2700 and in US $49( RS. 2000)…..so I think the prices for iPhone might be greater than the same in US.

I think the price in US is 199 dollars but u’ll get it even more cheaper in Honkong.. In indian it s around 15K..

This seems to be weired on both apple’s and vodafone’s part that that why they are not willing to get it all from Indian market.. Indian market is a very price sensitive market.. in 20k i can get a Nokia N82 or other touch based phones(Though not with multi touch tech.) with loads of multimedia features packed along with it.. and the much hyped 3G is still waiting bandwidth allocation.. so we cannot squeeze the complete out of Iphone…
So that confuses me…. what am i supposed to pay $400 for????? just a brand name????
I think apple should seriously think of opening a their retail stores in india and sell the unlocked version of the iphone…
Otherwise it will lead to the same trend again.. get an Iphone from US and get it unlocked here in India.. which is highly unreliable and one would lose Iphone’s warranty and may also end up losing its charm too…
Apple: if the price tag along with this Iphone is around $400 in India then you’ll lose a big chunk of potential buyers… and I’ll be definitely among them..

These are all hipes dude… u cant think of getting this thing for something like 16 k… heard like 4gb goes for Rs:9000/- [very similiar to US price of $200]
nyway let me tell you people… i got my hands on one of those braught from US and could use it with our BSNL sim without unlocking or doing anything with the phone…
so i recomend asking some1 in us to get one for you when they come home and you can use it with bsnl without any probs…..
NB:i’m not sure about other private networks
but its a quad band phone supporting all these frequencies(850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
so there should not be a problem

I do not think this would be a clever buy.
I have held the iphone and it is extremely slippery. Hence you will land up putting it inside of a container which can be held with ease.
But the problem there is the phone will look horrible. This is apple. The looks are just awesome. I think there is no real point to buying a apple product and covering it up with something.
Sure the features rock as well. But the whole package contains the look as well.
Ok now about the 3G. From what i hear, it has a different back panel for the phone (not the silver one). It is the normal one. The features are just brilliant, better battery, a common head phone jack, etc.
So I rather, wait for the 3G to come to India. Hope it comes
Its an exciting price iphone vodafone for just Rs.15960 for 8 GB. Vodafone customer care does not have the information with them. Still there might be alterations in pricing. Vodafone certainly would be charging high calling rates to cover up the subsidy in india

Im a vodafone customer since years, starting from BPL and my number is still the same.
so if i buy an iphone will i be able to continue with the same number?
iPhone misht sell with a premium of Max 15% on USA Price because of customs and other related tax as they sell Macs..So, expecting a price of 199+15% ie $230, Can vary somewhere between 12k to 14k for sure and Cant be more than That.
Guys , This is the first time Apple is trying to make its Market in Entire Asian Market among the competors..So, i’, quite positive over the pricing and it can never be more than 15k which is not competetive then and everyone will start geting their handsets from abroad

No video calling,
no AD2P on the Bluetooth,
CAN’T share ANY (mp3, images,videos….) files via bluetooth,
can’t use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous data charges to activate internet on your phone, but cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home)
no copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a…. say…. email & send it….have to type it out yourself)
no 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera,(the 2MP camera it carries is worst camera i’ve ever seen….. photos look like they have come out of a VGA camera)
no video recording with camera,
no front camera,
no flash.
no JAVA support
No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is a dealbreaker…touch keyboard as good as it looks…once you use it then only you come to know about the importance of having a hard keypad)
No 3G network yet in India..so why pay for expensive 3G phone if you cant use its 3G services … so, for India, iPhone 2.0 is no better than its first version
No removable battery. (You cannot change battery. Have to send it to apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!…This is not an iPod. Its a bloody phone. You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days)
No haptic feedback and
cannot send MMS,
can’t use as external storage device (16 GB of utter waste..next time you go to your friend’s house & find some interesting songs, movies, etc…sorry you cannot connect your ‘16 GB’ phone and share it!!!! completely tied to iTunes… Connect to your friend’s iTunes & you risk erasing everything on your phone.

We Indians are used to these features. Most of our phones already have these features. & we cannot do with out them…. i mean can you imagine paying so much for a phone with which you cannot transfer files via bluetooth. what age is this …STONE AGE???
Some features may be activated by jailbreak.. But why the hell should you risk losing your warranty after paying so much.
And want to add third party softwares??.. YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM FROM iTUNES STORE ONLY!!! . (Shell out more money). Apple is a bloody control freak. Dont surrender your freedom to it.
Its good for american market (who have no idea what mobile freedom/choice is) which is in stone age compared to asian/european markets. When they want to buy a phone, they have to go to network operators and buy only those phones that are available on that network. & stick to that company till their contract expires. You want to change carriers? Not before paying damages, & buying another phone on the other network again.
On the contrary, we in India have so much freedom. We go to handset shops & buy which ever phone we like. Then go to carriers.. checkout the plans & buy SIM.. Dont like the plan or rival carrier came up with a better plan???? EASY .. just remove & replace the SIM.
Apple are trying to IMPOSE THEIR MODEL ON US riding on the hype iPhone has created in the US (yes it was a flop in Europe ..thats why Apple never talks about its sales in Europe).
Dont fall for the subsidized price of iPhone… CHECKOUT THE DATA PLAN ATTACHED TO ITS SIM ..they will recover the cost through ridiculous data plans. Bill might come to around Rs 2500/month.(ATLEAST AMERICANS PAY THAT MUCH)
Let me clear one thing though.. iphone is the best looking phone (its touch interface is nothing like you have ever seen ), & best browsing experience out there no doubt …. (& others are fast catching up..check out the android demo at Google IO 2008)…. BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS IT ALL COMES DOWN TO FUNCTIONALITY…
Those of who buy it… You will be most happy for atmost a week… & then, MARK MY WORDS…YOU WILL START REGRETTING IT!!!

i have used iPhone in usa and trust me its still a very good piece to use.t has much more elegant features which other mobile still lacks..Like a robustic OS which does not crash or hangs…Good battery back up…youtube and gmaps works perfect the way it should be..
If you r looking for a phone for Multimedia effects for urself..Its its a fone but yes it has some drawbacks….
Still i may not suggest for people who want mltimedia out of a phone as u have lots of Chinese mobiles for 3-4k in the mrket which simply rocks like music system..
Well..f u are a mobile savvy guy and who like to carry docs…Work on online docs…Sync up ur contacts so that anytime wnyehere u can email..contact…and watch video ’s and listen music..then its surely a good phone..

Guys i got the insider news that Vodafone is going to sell the i phone 3 g for 22000 Rs. There are going to be 2 Call Rate Plans. In the first Plan the monthly rental is going to be 1200 Rs and 200 minutes of out going free. I could not get the details of the 2nd Plan.. Will keep u guys posted asap.

Forget iPhone, go in for Samsung Omnia. I bought it a week back. Its and awesome phone.
Has loads of features in addition to the ones in iPhone. Checkout for yourself.
Omnia does not have what phone has … its Mac OS X ..The power of Unix based system.
I have used windows based mobile..Same problem of slowing down/Hanging after using for 3-4 months..
Another news is i heard iPhone going to launch on Aug 18 this month by Vodafone AND 22nd august by airtel.

CE of Apple told in usa as 9k , not in india..its just the converted of $199 which makes us to dream at an attractve price of 9000 which does not include Tax, Excise, Duty as these phones initially wont be manufactured and will only be imported(Mostly from their China Plant)

Apple is no fool to launch products with Flaws..I’m sure they have not used any other Mac Product like macbook or mac mini… So, they dnt know about the power of Mac OS X Architecture..
To put Truth in simple words , iPhone is the most challenging phone in the world till date..Take any launch in any country, iPhone exceeded 300 Million Dollars PROFIT in the first three days… and right after that..it was always in demand .. people around the world r not fools and speculating bad is not healthy.

Hi guys…i was reading through some of the reviews of the iPhone…..well after some of the comments posted here…i feel totally confused about the set. i have earlier also regarding the no bluetooth, no removable battery, and no video recording…..and yes as some of you guys have said these rae in todays world very much a necessity in igh range phones……..i feel with these kind of features no there i phone my current Nokia 6600 is a better deal…..
i am looking for a phone in higher range…can some good soul who has used the set tell me what exactly is this device (iPhone)……and is it worth sheeling about 20-25K for this piece………..

interesting read.. my few cents on confusing/clearing someone’s doubts.
I have seen enuf of iPhone both in USA & India. To be frank, in US, it is not worth the deal for me, as it demands 2 year contract with $75 min per month for the voice & data plan (which is 35$ more than what i am paying for non-iphone without data plan). It is very good in terms of functionalities it offers and at the same time it has its own limitations (read it is arrogance from apple not to follow the herd). I am sure, once u own it, you will LOVE it. it is that simple. However, looking at the overall cost after 2 years and the need I have, it is not worth for me. If you want to be surfing on the go OR love to travel much, then it might be very useful. we all know that how internet can change our daily life.
iphone in India, I am very much excited. Once i come back to India, i will surely buy an iphone there.
Limitations I can list (only in locked iPhones):
-Data transfer: You HAVE to HAVE a computer with iTunes installed to transfer anything in & out of iPhone. There is a bluetooth in iPhone, but it is useful only for handsfree talking. This is like the BIGGEST limitation in iPhone for me.
-Ringtones: It is little awkward to have your own ring tones in iPhone. You cannot copy a ringtone from your friend’s mobile (as there is not bluetooth support for file transfer) and also you cannot set any of your mp3/midi file as ringtone. You should have purchased a song in Itunes to make ringtone out of it. If you own a Mac, then you can use Garage Band application to use ANY audio file to create ring tone. Now you know what is Apple’s strategy: Buy more Apple Products!. (and in my opinion, Macs are far better than windows, I have a Macbook Pro & Man Mini).
-SMS: You can not forward SMS to anyone.
-No Video recording (i don’t care).
-No hard keys: Sometimes touch screen becomes so annoying.
Advantage:
-Browser: this is the BIG plus: You have a FULL fledged browser in iPhone. It is like browsing in your home computer!
-Rest all you know already.
In a nutshell, if the phone costs less than Rs 25k for 16Gb without contracts, it is worth investing. If there is any contract associated with it, then I have revisit this page!

Dont buy if the price is above 10,000 from Vodafone or Airtel.

ur comments are confusing me…. even after knowing the flaws i feel even HTC is better option…. atleast we have FREEDOM of carriers and features which we all use to,…. and yes this i tunes feature is kind of annoying…. for everything u need itunes…. really crap…..overall… we cannot pay this huge price just for music…. operating system….. and moreover being dummy for apple…. we ourselves at times endorsing the product……

but yes, it has some serious limitations if you are thinking that u could do all that u did wiht ur current phone and also flaunt it, no dude, u will be sorry to find that a lot features in iphone are not there which we indians have started taking for granted

smells like price fixing between Vodafone and Airtel. Sadly, there are going to be many suckers ponying up that kind of money and will make the 2 carriers feel justified in their price.

This is rediculous.. I think with that price ( 31000), very few fools will actually end up in buying it @vodaphone and airtel stores.. Given the limitations of Iphone usage in india, and since its freedom is tightly coupled with Itunes, at least I am not going to buy it.
For music, I already have an Ipod.. but those who were thinking of buying an IPOD, should go with IPHONE instead, where you get both the features of a mobile phone with browser and IPOD…
I strongly blieve that the price will definetely going to reduce in India if there are few shooters for the early bird price….

Apple and the providers have got into a win-win situation here. And they actually think “Customer is King” to be able to spend that kindof money on the instrument.

They are just trying to skim the market for now and get the early adopters to pay the high price and buy the iPhone. I believe the prices will come down in the near future.
I think this is outrageous and ridiculous pricing by Apple/Vodafone. I am not going to buy the iPhone for Rs. 31000. It simply does not make sense.

31k, I started laughing at the price the moment i heard and when i read my mail sent by Vodafone, i couldnt stop my laugh at the same.. I was actually visualizing in my mind of a scene like “iPhone..Haye.. Haye…”

I’m using iphone for 3 months….I’m feeling good abt iphone. Thought it has some demerits….Even nokia/samsung has also released defected mobile….We can’t expect everything in a mobile. The features provided in iphone is far better than d other phones…..FOr some user they might tough in using this…for others its gud…..
Like me, i went to iphone only bcoz of musix…instead of buying ipod and mobile seperately…i went wit iphone…..
still if u r music lover it shud have FM/Radio!!! min need of most of the Indians!

I dnt understand one more thing..Why many of u guys have been pointing about the 3g facility given by iPhone is been criticized…if this reason of we still don’t have a 3g network yet in India is one negative reason for iPhone..Then why u ever entertained a phone by Nokia Called N95 which Boasted of 3.5g network which in REALITY IS NON EXISTENT IN THE WORLD OF CONSUMERS…

Apple has already come up with custom based apps.Many r alread realeased in the App Store.You can download those through your iTunes. And the interesting part is most of the applications we think of in day to day life usage is FREE..So, It is nevertheless that there is no solution like custom based is not there…

Cost of ownership over 2 years (this is because you are giving a contract for 2 years when you purchase an iPhone in US)

Initial Cost $199 + (24mths * $70(min data plan required when you sign up))
=$(199+1680) = $1879
~=Rs 75,160 (assuming *40* Rs/Dollar, which is very less)
India:
Cost of ownership over 2 years(since comparison is made with US)
=Initial cost Rs 31000 + (24mths * Rs 1000(maximum monthly tariff from vodafone for iphone, incl data plan)
=Rs 55,000
CAN YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE???!! You still think it will be priced less after 6months? Agreed that US data plans have unlimited data, but 600MB from vodafone (for 999 plan) is not that bad either.
If you *want* to buy an iPhone but waiting for the price to come down, I would say it is almost impossible. It might come down by 2-3k, but not much.
Moreover, in India, you have the freedom of switching to a different carrier once you buy an iPhone (though I am not very sure about this yet), which is a HUGE advantage over US counterparts.

Here in US, no shop/company sells iPhone without contract. You may break contract after 6 month by providing some strong reason but then monthly bill is around s. 3600/- and there is Rs 1400 activation fee. SO you will end up paying lot of money.
Second option is to buy from users. You will find lot many people selling iPhone on Ebay. but they are very costly.
Wise solution: Wait for Nokia Touch or Unlocked model directly from Apple on open market.

y dont u buy HTC’s Touch Diamond instead of IPhone.I am using it n i must say 1 thing dat Diamond is an awesome handset.d most strong thing about it is that it doesnt hangs.Apllauds !!! supposingly the hanging problem is most stick to the HTC phones , but its not d case wid the Diamond . It costs 19k in India and Has touch flow 3d interface.which i think is the superior reason to buy it. despite that it has lots of features like 3.2 mp camera,sleek body ,HSPDA(7.2 mb)speed,marvellous touch response etc etc.The only thinng it lacks to Iphone is multitouch.but it offewrs other features which r not avlble in Iphone like messg forwardng,Bluetooth etc.
The choice is yours guys. just check out other featres on

In USA 8b price is 99$ approx Rs5000 but in India it cost Rs16000 with vodfone. This is’t fair deal. When does Apple showroom will in India???
wow, this absolutely an amazing strategy used by the apple people. oh god who would have thought this to happen. i will explain u the whole scenario of this strategy.
when iphone 3g hadbeen launched in all the parts of the world it didnt get the expected response from the buyers because of its sky rocketing price tag. so, now the stock of this iphone 3g have be glued in the godowns. they then decided to make the most of it now they launched the better form of the 3g i.e, 3gs. they said that it takes some time for them to launch 3gs meanwhile they reduced the price of the 3g very much 33%. even though if 3gs is launched in india espesially it will be priced at 20000-23000 (8gb of 3gs) so now they are delaying the launch of this model according to the stocks holds of 3g in different countries. thats why they are launching it in aug in india
and this june in other countries. through this people will show lot of intrest in buying the older version (3g) because of its low price . so by then they launch 3gs, stocks of 3g will be sold like hotcakes.
beware now apple will be launching a new smart phone in every 6-8 months.

iPhone in Usa is a locked one for $99 whereas in india, its a unlocked version what u get and u pay the entire amount.
well.. $49 iPod shuffle is just same what we get in india after the currency conversion.
Aple is one company which has maintained the prices almost every part of the world i the same price plus the currency conversion charges and customs charges which they need to pay..
