Google SMS comes to India , still in beta

Google Phone or gPhone is expected to arrive anytime  – this is a rumor for sure.

But some real news Google SMS debuts in India in beta mode.

Users need to send a text message to 54664 (5GOOG) . 5GOOG works only on a T9 keypad beware.

Premium text messaging charges apply for the respective carriers.

Aircel Airtel BPL BSNL and Reliance are supported .  No Vodafone ?

SMS still rocks and GPRS usage is still low

This launch is a fact that confirms the above statement. In a diverse economy like india. SMS is more popular than Mobile internet / GPRS for sure.

You just need a simple handset that supports SMS to use this service . But its not free .
