Google SMS comes to India , still in beta

Google Phone or gPhone is expected to arrive anytime  - this is a rumor for sure.

But some real news Google SMS debuts in India in beta mode.

Users need to send a text message to 54664 (5GOOG) . 5GOOG works only on a T9 keypad beware.

We checked the Weather in chennai and we got this response in the online demo.

Premium text messaging charges apply for the respective carriers.

Aircel Airtel BPL BSNL and Reliance are supported .  No Vodafone ?

SMS still rocks and GPRS usage is still low

This launch is a fact that confirms the above statement. In a diverse economy like india. SMS is more popular than Mobile internet / GPRS for sure.

You just need a simple handset that supports SMS to use this service . But its not free .
