Google is working on bringing VR to Chrome for Android. A report from Roadtovr says recent builds of the Chrome Beta and Chrome Dev for Android show the beginnings of VR support.

The beta version of Chrome now has ‘VR Shell’ feature in the latest builds, which would allow smartphone headsets to browse any website in VR mode, regardless of whether it supports WebVR or not. Currently, the beta version of Chrome for Android does not yet include the VR Shell option, and is still limited to the Dev Channel build of the application.

WebVR is a JavaScript API that helps build VR-ready websites. This essentially means that if a user wants to go from a site that supports WebVR to one that doesn’t, they will have to remove their VR headset thereby not going through the hassle just to browse a small selection of VR enabled websites.

Support for browsing the web in VR will make for a nice addition to Chrome for Android. Samsung already built a browser for its Gear VR. Google is also working on a version of Chrome for the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
