Google Maps updated with traffic alerts feature in India

Google Maps traffic alert

Google has updated Maps with a couple of important features. The update adds traffic alerts to Maps to help you from getting stuck in heavy traffic jams.

After entering a destination into Maps, you will get a spoken alert for upcoming traffic conditions that helps you identify the quickest route. Google Maps will give you a heads up if congestion lies ahead, and gives you an idea how long you will be stuck in a jam.

In addition, Maps will also provide you with options to take alternate routes and explains which ones are fastest or have the least traffic.  Real time traffic updates for Google Maps was launched in the US some time back and will now be available for India users. Users do not need to update the app for this feature as it will be automatically updated for Android and iOS apps when you hit the navigation mode.

Earlier this year, Google Maps added voice lane guidance feature in 20 Indian cities and also added the ability for users to avoid turn by turn navigation during voice calls.
