WhatsApp for Android officially gets Google Drive backup option


Google has officially announced that it is releasing a new feature that will make it easy for WhatsApp users to back up their data. The company is adding a Google Drive integration that lets you back up entire WhatsApp history right to Google Drive.

The backup will include chat histories, voice messages, photos and video, and yoy will be able to restore all of the data to a new phone when you set up WhatsApp. After enabling this new backup feature, you will be able to tell WhatsApp to create daily, weekly or monthly backups of your messaging history. The backup option can be found under “WhatsApp Settings > Chats and calls > Chat backup.” The app allows you to ‘Back up chats’ over Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

WhatsApp currently has more than 900 million users, the majority of whom are on Android devices. This new feature offers a seamless way to back up your data in the cloud with encryption for added security.This new feature will be rolling out to WhatsApp users in the Play Store over the next few months. The Google Drive backup feature was already available in April but via APK download and was not made official by Google.
