Nokia N96 Vs Apple iPhone – Indians are the lucky lot this season!

on August 24, 2008 – 8:41 am16 Comments

The latest debate is whether the newly launched Nokia N96 is any competition to the Apple iPhone.

While the two handsets are very competitively priced Nokia will be in the range of Rs 32,000 – 36,000 and iPhone through Vodafone will cost Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,000), we think that Nokia N96 wins hands down. Nokia has a proven ability that makes it the market leader in cell phones. And not without reason. Nokia phones are viewed as “reliable, long lasting and technologically advanced.”

The iPhone on the other hand has a technical saleability, but lacks in features especially in comparison with the N96.

The only major difference between the two handsets we see is the lack of a touch screen in the N96. Else, N96 scores over the iPhone on several counts.

At Fonearena we gave a low-down on why you should perhaps ‘not’ buy the iPhone. Read it here.

But don’t believe us. Read the features of the N96, and we leave it to you to decide where you’d like to put your Rs 35,000 (gulp!)

yet, not clear about the features of n 96 & iphone

I think this is a completely one sided view expressed here. How can you say that N96 is better than iphone because of its music player?? iPhone has IPOD remember?? You can actually watch a movie on iPod..forget about music.

Applications?? Please take a walk through apps store..you shall be surprised by the number of applications there.

You forgot to mention the curiosity and exclusivity factor as well. A N96 looks just like anyother phone. No other phone looks like an iPhone.

I have always looked upto fonearena for the detailed posts. Please do not ruin the respect by writing such one sided views.

I dont share the view that iphone could ever be like or even something to be compared to n96….
    Ha Ha
This is so funny if you are comparing the stupid iphone with the Great N96. LOOKS ARE NOT ALL. There are phones that looks similar and feels better for iphone to be compared with. Like samsung Omnia, HTC Diamond etc. Even when compared to those phones, the poor iphone is nowhere. What does it have? (as the list of features it does not have is numerous)….

I appreciate US Citizens or such people who had priced the iphone correctly….below 200 USD. If you are paying more than 10 k for it in india, you would call yourself a fool soon.

dear friends, as far as applications are concerned no doubt that Iphone has a great compatibility, speed of accessing the internet, playing game, video or managing your dailly routine things are really better then other phone in different manners but as far as user friendly thing is concerned i guess nokia is best even if compared with lower class phones of nokia and iphone. the biggest draw backs are you can not forward the msg you received from your friend if using Iphone. i guess most of us are fond of this. but ya the comparision is totally incomplete, a pure list is must to compare both the giants

Even our superstar Shahrukh khan got a pathetic experience by using iphone……..

dear friends, what is the use of a phone which having a mp camera without recording facility, then most of us ,college students communicating each other wth SMSes so what is the use if u cant frwd a msg

  • nick

dear friends i own both n96 and iphone 3g, and i can say that iphone is 1000 times better than the n96. Forget about pictures taken with n96 they might be 5mp, but they look like shit, and n96 is extremly slow even with software version 12, its keyboard isn’t usable if you have large fingers, it is made out of cheap plastic, and games for symbian are the worst. If n96 software is replaced with something that like works properly it would be much, much better device

  • http://www.fonearena.com Varun

    @nick

i see that u hve fallen in love with your iphone 3g :)

i know its a special device .. But you have to agree that N96 is a more powerful phone.

Try updating the firmware if you are facing software issues

  • nick

I already updated firmware to v12 and it’s still slow. I’m just saying that if n96 had better software it would be superior to iphone 3g

  • shyam

NOKIA N96 is the best one.

i-phone only has good look and touch screen,
but it is like a waste cardboard.

I have used a brand new N96 and I did think the phone was def good but pales in comparison to the iPhone which I eventually switched over too. The feature best found on the N96 is nodoubt the inbuilt GPS receiver which I had compared to a GPS receiver fitted onboard my ship and the position was accurate to the second decimel.
The other feature is of course the camera which is better than the iPhone. I still use the N96 regularly as i gave it to my roommate so I do get to compare it with the iPhone on very day to day basis and I’d def say that besides the two features mentioned there’s nothing better than the iPhone. In my honest opinion and after having used well over a dozen phones from numerious brands like Sony erricson , blackberry ,htc, samsung ,nokia, motorola etc I think the iPhone 3gs is hats off the best phone ever in all it’s short comings

    Hi Friends,
I Have N96 since last 4 Months and by my experience i suggest N96 is the really really much more better fore than any 1 can tell.

if you are comparing it with other phones than you are waisting your Time because the Phone itself Speak a Lot…..

and for those who have problem with software then please visit to the Nokia Gallary and Update Your firmware Version to 30.033 it has been already Available in market…

    Thank You….
